I am a classically trained violinist and violist passionate about helping my violin and viola students develop a love for music and for their instrument by way of a solid technical foundation and efficient practicing skills. Though I am most familiar with the Essential Elements and Suzuki lesson books, I am willing to use a different method book should you have one available. I welcome students with special needs, and am thoroughly versed in the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic violin and viola repertoire.

Since 2011, I've had the joy of teaching students how to play the violin to the best of their ability. From six year olds just starting out to adults in their 80s who want to learn just for fun, I've successfully taught the skills and techniques to make music on this beautiful instrument.

With a gentle, patient approach, I custom-tailor each lesson to the student's goals, interests, and abilities. Within that framework, I place an emphasis on proper position, technique and intonation. To provide a thorough and well-rounded music education, I also teach note reading, music theory, and ear-training. I do everything I can to make learning fun and engaging -- often using games, flashcards, and interactive exercises to teach certain concepts, especially for younger players. Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. I teach beginning and intermediate violin students. I studied violin at the Community Music Center in Portland, OR. I'm a certified Suzuki teacher for violin and viola in books 1 and 2. I also have a music degree from Walla Walla University. I have over 10 years of teaching experience!

Beginners - We will start with the Essential Elements Book 1, then progress to Suzuki along with selected etudes and scales. Once a solid foundation has been laid down, we will select a piece together that is within your reach but will be a great challenge.

Intermediate/Advanced - You will be given scales, etudes, and a piece of our choice that will play to your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.
