Cello Lessons in McGrew. Amazing Teachers.

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. I teach using the String Builders books as a foundation and from there we work together to explore our musical possibilities.

I have 18 years of playing experience from some of the best teachers around the country. I am certified to teach all 10 Suzuki books. I cater my teaching to each individual student and my goal is to create a fun nurturing environment.

I'm a recent grad of University of Michigan, where I received both my bachelors and masters degrees in cello performance with Anthony Elliott and Richard Aaron, respectively. I've spent years honing my craft and I'm excited to share with you everything I've learned!
My teaching style is a blend of all the teaching philosophies that I've encountered over the years. I emphasize good technique and a holistic approach to cello playing, as I believe those two are the foundation to building musicality. However, I believe the ultimate goal is to simply instill a love for music into my students and to encourage them to have fun. I look forward to making music with you soon!

I played the cello throughout high school and college. I use the same principles to teach the cello that I do the violin. We focus on correct technique and characteristic sound while developing musicality and a well rounded music education.

Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!
