I have been teaching cello for 6 years and have recently earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. I have experience with both young and adult students alike and can confidently tailor my teaching to the needs of my students. Keeping the instrument and music an important part of the student's life is important to me and I always try and look for ways to keep them engaged with music personally, as well.

Beginner cello instruction based on custom curriculum. Usually after 2-3 hours of active instructions, most students are able to play simple melodies.

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.

As a cellist with 18 years of playing experience and 5+ years of teaching I have learned that music can change your life at any age and even can help you heal from whatever struggles life throws at you. Music and learning an instrument can improve your brain functions in a way that no other activity can accomplish. I am so passionate about teaching and customize my teaching style to each student individually because the same approach does not work for everyone. I strongly believe in that and try to get to know my students, who they are, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help to overcome those. I get very involved with my students and build a personal relationship with each one of them to further help them with cello. I've had some wonderful instructors myself including Amir Eldan and Hans Jensen who taught me not only how to play the instrument itself but also how to use those skills that come with being a musician in life.
