I'm a dedicated teacher and spend extra time outside of lessons thinking about how to best approach the following lesson. I find the style of teaching that works best for the student. I write plans after lessons and email or give them in person summarizing the lesson's key points to help make practicing at home easier and more organized in order to make lesson time as effective overall as possible.

An experienced and versatile musician with a passion for building technique and finding students' unique artistic voice.

Students of mine study standard concertos, Bach, Suzuki materials, and scales. They also work on fiddle and jazz tunes, improvisation, and pop songs. The most important thing is to find what lights a spark in each student!

I have played violin for over 30 years and in my professional career I have been on tour in a Peruvian folk band, played electric violin in a rock band, and been in orchestras and string quartets as a classical violinist and violist for weddings and special events. My specialty is working with beginners to develop both a strong technical foundation and a love of the instrument and the diverse and surprising genres the violin offers. I love working with small children. I advise to wait until the child has developed a sense of rhythm and pitch in singing, and displays a desire to focus and practice on their own. A great indicator is if they can sit down and pay attention to a book. My youngest violin student was 3 and my oldest 64! Can't wait to work together.

My greatest joy is sharing music, and I love to help students discover their own creative voice through their instrument! I am a versatile classical violinist and violist, fiddle player, songwriter, improviser, and cross-genre musician with over 20 years' experience playing the violin and 8 years' experience teaching violinists of all ages and abilities.

I'm currently only enrolling students online, but I will be available to teach in-person lessons in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN, metro area and in Northfield, MN, after it is safe to do so.

Positivity and encouragement are the cornerstones of my teaching style! All ages are welcome. Starting with technique and posture, lessons are then customized to include music theory, music history, ear training, and sight reading. I also teach how to effectively practice on your own, so you grow every time you pick up your violin. I can't wait to share my passion for music!

With 18 years playing fiddle and 10 years teaching, I have the experience to help a beginner gain basic skills or an advanced student analyze bowing patterns, moving double stops, and more. From the student who is picking up the fiddle for the first time to the fiddler who’s been playing their whole life, I hope to inspire a love for traditional fiddle music and culture.
