I am a classically trained violinist and violist passionate about helping my violin and viola students develop a love for music and for their instrument by way of a solid technical foundation and efficient practicing skills. Though I am most familiar with the Essential Elements and Suzuki lesson books, I am willing to use a different method book should you have one available. I welcome students with special needs, and am thoroughly versed in the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic violin and viola repertoire.

I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.
I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

I never gave it any thought that it would be possible to learn such a complex instrument via Skype. To find someone as professionally trained as her is very challenging in of itself, but to have someone of her caliber teach my daughter from many miles away in the comfort of our home is truly amazing! Stephanie was very patient, observant, extremely knowledgeable and a talented teacher. It is quite a luxury to have the opportunity to work with her. I'd recommend her highly. If you are hesitant to try her online lessons I would suggest you at least give it a chance; you will be pleasantly surprised."

Betsy is by far one of the most talented people I have hired to work with my children on their violin. Not only does she work well with children but she also is such a joy to be around. If you want to learn how to play a violin this is your go to person! There is no one better than Betsy! We love her!"
