I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.
Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.
*** Lesson Details *** I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.
I have also started a toddler music appreciation program geared for the 1-4age range. The purpose of this program is to expose very young children to the fun of Music through instruments, songs and play.
*** Studio Equipment *** I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.
*** Travel Equipment *** When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.
*** Specialties *** Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras. At this point in time I am only accepting beginner to intermediate level students.

Jamila has been giving our 7-year-old twin boys piano lessons for six months, and my wife and I are blown away by what an incredible teacher Jamila is. Our boys began never having played a note in their life, and in just six months they play at a level we didn't think they would reach for at least a year and a half or more. Family and friends who hear the boys play are amazed because their own kids took lessons for years and didn't achieve the same level of skill and knowledge of musical theory so early on--and it is 100% thanks to Jamila! She doesn't underestimate kids or teach down to them. She teaches proper technique and theory in a positive, encouraging, yet rigorous way that I imagine most kids will respond very well to. We feel blessed to have found her.

One word..... AMAZING!!!
Before Ms. Jamila was my piano teacher, I had little interest in the piano. My other teacher gave me boring, easy songs, which didn't help. After that, I despised the piano, and thought I never would play it. Then, Ms. Jamila came along. Unlike my other teacher, she asked my interests and what song I really liked. Now, I don't know how I ever hated it. I believe I will go far with her as my teacher. She posts articles on her blog and her website which deepens my understanding of music. I would reccomend her to anyone, because on a scale of 1 to 10, she's infinity!

Jamila is great!
She is patient and extremely knowledgeable about music.
In Piano, we work on proper bench posture and distance from the keyboard, hand placement and correct finger curvature and work towards developing great musicality in piano repertoire.
In Voice, we work on proper posture for both seated and standing positions, microphone placement, diction, audience interaction and more.
I hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. With over 15 years of experience, in both piano and voice, I've had to opportunity to perform, both domestically and internationally, with such great acts as Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and many others. I served as lead singer, pianist, and co-songwriter for a number of independent bands covering numerous genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Acoustic, and A Capella.
Since moving to Washington DC, I've immersed myself within the local music community playing a handful of group and solo acts. I currently maintain a home music studio well equipped with musical instruments and music technology. I'm constantly practicing, writing, and recording to improve myself as an artist.
My teaching style
is unique and individualized to each student. I set personalized goals to make every lesson a success, and I push my students to get the most out of themselves just like I do myself. I'm always enthusiastic and humor driven to create a personable learning environment for students of any age. Music is my life, and I'm so thrilled to have the opportunity to share my greatest passion with the hope that my students, too, will fall in love with music!
*** Lesson Details *** My lesson environment is laid back and stress-free. I like my students to feel inspired and encouraged as they begin or continue their music education. I introduce fun and innovative ways to build students' musicianship and creativity while retaining classical methods to develop strong technique and proper performance and practice habits.
For beginners, we'll be exploring the basics of either piano, or voice, while focusing on proper technique, basic theory, and a solid skill set. Within 3-6 months, my students are able to read music and understand the language of it.
For intermediate-advanced, we'll focus on building musicianship and skill sets by furthering studies in music theory, varying styles of repertoire, proper techniques that will greatly improve your piano and/or voice abilities, songwriting, improvisation, and live performance skills.
I ask that my students come prepared to every lesson with the motivation and commitment to learn something new each week! Lessons are a fun and creative way to discover yourself as an artist and a person, so let's get started!!

Timothy was so welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. Already learning new things and excited for lesson #2
August 6, 2019
I have been taking lessons from Tim for both piano and voice for over a year. Tim is a fantastic instructor, combining both piano and voice in every lesson. I have many years of classical voice training, and continuing my training with Tim has been incredibly fun because he challenges me with new styles and techniques. I was self-taught on piano, and Tim has done a great job teaching me at my level of experience.
Pick repertoire, learn proper technique, build productive practicing skills and habits, and be confident in your next performance!
Justin W. is a professional performer, composer, and educator based in Rockledge, Florida. Justin received his Bachelor of Music Performance in Voice from the University of North Florida and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Louisville. He has performed alongside the Louisville Chamber Choir, Louisville Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, and Brevard Symphony Orchestra, and has toured internationally with the prestigious University of Louisville Cardinal Singers under the direction of Dr. Kent Hatteberg.
Justin is the quintessential professional in every way. His approach is to make you a better student of music not necessarily just learn guitar. He is patient with you and very positive and reinforcing. The passion he has for music is obvious from the first time you meet him. As with any good manager, just by the way he teaches, makes you want to be a better student.

About Matthew J
I currently work as a freelance music producer as well as a guitar/bass teacher and as a music software teacher. I have been playing guitar for 18 years and teaching guitar and bass for 9 years. I have worked as a private and group guitar instructor at several music education establishments in the Chicago, Los Angeles and in Eugene, Oregon as well. I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances. I studied at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Classical Guitar, Latin Music and Music Theory. I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my high school jazz band along with original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock virtuoso guitarist Kev
in M. Buck, where I first learned music theory and was inspired to be more studious with the guitar.
I have performed in rock/modern bands for 12 years as an electric guitarist and also for 4 years as a solo acoustic guitarist mixing Bossa Nova, Classical Guitar and original compositions into my performance repertoire.
*** Lesson Details *** For Music Software Lessons - Logic Pro X , Ableton Live, Garageband, Pro Tools and Reason-
Topics I like to cover - capturing correct recording levels.....editing, adding effects/basic mixing, automation .....creating drum grooves with loops and midi drums..........songwriting and music theory.........Live capabilities using Ableton (for backing tracks and live performance)........Quick commands to easily navigate through software.....
For instrument lessons- I'm a patient teacher that's passionate about guitar and helping students reach their musical goals whether they are casual players or serious musicians. For beginners, I use Hal Leonard instructional guitar books along with paper handouts and sheet music. I believe it's important for everyone to learn the fundamentals of music to create a strong base of skills in order to continue playing and learning music throughout one's life. For more experienced players, I like to teach various modern rock/pop songs, classical guitar songs, picking patterns, finger picking patters, improvisation, scales and music theory. I teach nylon string acoustic, steel string acoustic guitar and electric guitar and bass I believe the most basic goal for a guitar student is to be able to play a song in it's entirety, whether it's by themselves or with other musicians/music students. I believe that some of the most important music skills are learned while actually playing with other musicians. It is crucial when learning an instrument to be able to play in 'real time'; playing music with a steady sense of rhythm.
*** Specialties *** I teach Classical Guitar, Brazilian Jazz, bass guitar, rock, pop, blues, funk and folk guitar using method books, sheet music and guitar tablature.
Absolute joy to be taught by Matt, knowledgeable, encouraging and enthusiastic. (Timely as well if that's important to you!), i learnt an awful lot from Matt and felt fortunate to have chosen him as my teacher.

Matthew has been a wonderful instructor. I feel that i have learned a lot and also enjoyed the process. He has also been very accomodating about special teaching requests that have helped me develop my skills in genres I enjoy.
Hi! My name is Megan. I am a Wichita State graduate with a degree in music education. I have taught mandolin/violin/viola lessons for the past 7 years in Wichita, KS and in the KC area. I am also a elementary strings teacher for the KCK school district. Besides teaching music, I have also played mandolin/viola for several music projects from a typical Irish band to a free improve jazz ensemble. I am a very versatile player so I can teach/play from Irish to rock to jazz.
*** Lesson Details *** When it comes to teaching private music lessons, I am a laid back teacher but I still have high expectations for each student. I really do not have a set curriculum because each student wants to learn something different.I use all my resources I have in order to meet the student's need. Whatever a student's avenue they want to take, I am confide
nt the student will have that much more knowledge before they had started. I can teach mandolin any level and violin I can teach through book 3 of Suzuki or any other method book and viola through book 2 of Suzuki
*** Studio Equipment *** Be in an open room much like a living room with amps, instruments, and other musical equipment.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect the student to have their own instrument. I expect them to have their own music stand and an amp if need be. I will provide copies of music at a small charge ($5) and would be willing to purchase the material if the student gives the money up front.
*** Specialties *** For the most part, I play Irish, Jazz, Blues, and Classical.
All my students have multiple opportunities to perform throughout the year. I generally put on a Christmas student recital and a student recital just before summer break. In addition to these 'concerts', I offer performance classes once every other month where students get together and do a variety of activities which may include playing for each other, jamming, performing as duos and trios, or taking a lesson in front of the group. We have fun and all learn a lot at the same time!
I teach music. The guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele just happen to be the particular instruments I choose. Music as a language, discipline, and art, is the goal. I've been teaching, performing, studying, composing, for some thirty years. I've studied and gigged in the classical, jazz, rock, blues, R & B, and country idioms. I've taught composition and improvisation to instruments other than guitar, (vocalists, fiddle, sax, piano, trumpet) I've taught all ages and levels. I currently pursue a doctorate of music in guitar at university. Students learn many things when studying with me. They learn physically how to play a particular instrument while learning music as its own language. Students learn how to learn, learn self-discipline, and access their musical expression, all potential life changing experiences. I am happy and
excited to announce I am available for on-line lessons, and will now be able to work with students from all over the world, regardless of distance or location!
*** Lesson Details *** I am laid back, but at the same time very goal directed. I like to do technique and/or vocabulary, note reading, and songs every lesson. After six months students are able to to 'jam', (improvise over chord changes such as the blues). They are well on their way to becoming literate, probably a third way through the first book. They probably can play a half dozen songs well, and are starting to strum (comp) chord progressions in a musically rhythmic way. They may even have played in a couple concerts by then.
*** Studio Equipment *** Office studio w/ guitar, bass, amps, and seating for parents, computer with skype capability.
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring my guitar and writing tools, extra picks, extra paper etc. Students provide their own instrument, method book, staff paper, notebook paper. Hopefully they have a music stand and their own guitar picks and other items relevant for the study of their instrument.

Phil is a naturally gifted teacher. He listens well and took time to understand what I feel I need to concentrate on right now. He knows how to work with a person effectively.

My first class was fantastic. Phillip cares about what I want to learn and he gives useful feedback and proper exercise/homework. I am motivated to practice everyday and look forward our my future sessions!
"I hired Danny early this year 2016 at my home studio in Austin,TX. I have been working on a recording studio project. With 6 songs I needed to record. I d
id three songs on my own. That took a week and a half and at least 5 to 6 hrs each. I looked around and hired a local coach who was very classical and just didn't get it. 3 hrs I will never get back. I found Danny online, hired him, and it was perfect...We warmed up with scales and light cardio. Very different I will say but effective. Anyways, we finished the 3 songs in just under 2 hrs. Wow! Straight to the point. So I sing Gospel music and had so many techniques wrong. A little bit of good habits goes a long way."
"Maryann Graham is the best teacher and best friend I can possibly have! 😍😍 I highly recommend her to anyone. She's super sweet and is a great teacher and
helper. I've known her for 10 years. I absolutely love her. She's my teacher and bestie."
"Kareem is the man. I first met him while playing in the Pierce College Big Band--which he directs and is a perennial first place at the Lionel Hampton Ja
zz Festival. I studied with him for 6 months formally but over the past 2 years through his weekly jam session and mutual gigs he's become a tremendous influence in my life. Whether your a beginner on your axe or an aspiring jazz student of any level he is the instructor for you. As an improvisor his main influences are Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, and Joshua Redman. For any jazz musician on any instrument he is a master instructor of bebop. His overall playing versatility is solid but his forte is bebop. He is simply a beast of bebop and can aptly guide you along the path of musical enlightenment. Also, like most great jazz musicians his piano chops are excellent."
"Wonderfully engaging, extremely intuitive and nurturing, Danielle has been a game-changer for me and my creative career. She listens well to your needs a
s a student and focuses on the root of the matter. She is truly a genuine soul and there is no doubt she cares tremendously about each and every one of us, as her students. She not only focuses on techniques and style, but also on how to grow and expand your career as an artist. I have found this to be immensely valuable as an creative and would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone wanting to grow and engage a wider audience."
"My daughter Ashley has studied with Stacey for over 2 years. She is a wonderful teacher. She is very patient and makes lessons fun but productive. She wan
ts the very best for her students and works very hard to make sure that they excel in their chosen field of music. Stacey always made sure that Ashley was prepared for upcoming competitions, college auditions and even helped her find scholarship opportunities.Stacey has also worked with numerous other students that Ashley attended school with and they absolutely love her as well. I would highly recommend Stacey to anyone in need of a good music instructor."
"Marissa has been great in developing me as a singer and a musician. She's really easy to talk to and really knows what shes talking about! I can tell I'm
getting better after each lesson! Marissa makes music fun!!!"
"Love Antonio's Spanish guitar, he is the only flamenco guitarist I have seen perform in the area! He makes his guitar sing:)"
"Cheryl is both an amazing performer and teacher. Her voice just blows me away!! Learned a lot from her."
"Lisa is lovely person and a consummate musician. Her vocal skills and guitar technique are flawless, and her gift and craftsmanship for songwriting is wor
ld-class. Having since gone on to a very promising and exciting career in the music industry, I look back on my days learning from and sharing the stage with Lisa with both fondness and an appreciation for how much they improved my own musicianship."
