Maya joined the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in 2007. After receiving her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in 2001, she became a member of the Honolulu Symphony. In Hawaii, she recorded with the prestigious Hawaiian singer Keali’i Reichel on his album Ke’alaokamaile, which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005.

A native of Japan, Maya received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts. She attended seminars in Japan and England with the Amadeus Quartet and performed in both countries as a member of the Sunrise String Quartet.

In the United States, Shiraishi studied with Masao Kawasaki on scholarships at the Juilliard School, where she received a master’s degree in 2001. She has also studied with Garrett Fischbach from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Yoko Takebe from the New York Philharmonic. I have been teaching violin for 15 years. I specialize in beginning to intermediate students and all ages are welcome. I have always said that one is never too old to learn music. Everyone can experience the joy that music brings. In lessons with me you will develop a foundation in note reading, music theory, technique and much more. In no time at all you will be able to play songs and read music as if it was a book. So excited to get started on this music journey with you.

I am a professional cellist with a graduate degree in music and extensive performing and teaching experience. I look forward to working with you or your child to help accomplish your goals and have fun making music! Lessons are tailored to each students needs and abilities, and I have vast experience working with students of all ages and abilities, from elementary students to college students. I teach online and in-person lessons.

I can provide private lessons for beginner-intermediate level violin and viola students who are in elementary-middle school. I also provide beginner-advanced cello lessons for students of all ages.

I will teach you a solid foundational technique, including advanced shifting techniques and simple but beautiful vibrato, that will allow you to play any style of music you would like. I teach all of my students how to improvise in a clear, systematic way, and provide a safe and fun environment to practice being musically creative. You will learn how to "sound" like a fiddler AND a classical violinist.

I'm Suzuki Method certified and use a unique blend of method books including the O'Connor Method and a fiddle tableture system I have created. American fiddle, celtic, gypsy, jazz and Mexican waltz's are some of the muscial styles that you will enjoy while learning a solid foundational technique.
