I teach guitar from a wide background in many genres. You can expect to learn chord and scale theory, as well as mechanics, tone control, note and key identification, and ear training. We can explore any genre of interest, however my specialties are in blues, rock, classic rock, bluegrass, and country.
About Richard
Music is my life. Since the age of 16, I have studied the guitar extensively. During my high-school years I was involved in band, marching band, choir, and independent music theory. I started my first band when I was 19 in the U.S. Army, and my life has never been the same since. I played music

We will learn how to play with proper technique so you can play as long as you want with no pain! We'll start by strengthening the fingers by doing various exercises and learning some notes. Whatever kind of music you are interested in is what we will be playing. It is important that you are having fun while learning. No need to sit through a boring book when there is tons of material to dig into out there!

I do not teach guitar for readers or cover artists. If you want to learn how to find your own style and build on what is unique and valuable in what you play, I can help you.
I typically can't offer much to an already advanced player as they've already acquired and embedded habits I will train less experienced players to either avoid or incorporate from a creative rather than copy-cat methodology.
Students will be taught "Expressive Practicing", a technique emphasizing skills earned through inspired playing. This is a highly individualized method based on the students instinctive capabilities such as having an natural "ear". Fundamentals are taught as applied through a run-before-you-walk set of exercises and structured improvisation techniques.
About Richard
I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love. Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Profession

I have played blues, hard rock, fingerpicking, folk, and jazz music on the guitar since 2006. I have played onstage in rock bands and jazz combos and received years of private instruction. I am a chronic improviser, a composer, a creative musician, and a music theory geek.
My enthusiasm for the guitar is related to its irreplaceable role in genres that are uniquely and beautifully American like blues, bluegrass, and rock 'n' roll.
I can teach you how to play the basics, how to solo, how to write a song, how to play jazz chords, how to play rock riffs, how to groove, how to fingerpick, or whatever you want to learn.
Check out my guitar lesson demo video on my profile to hear me play!

He also worked with me and was able to teach me a song he never heard before after just listening to it once"

I have been lessons for a little over a month and have significantly improved. I'm an adult student working 80-90 hrs a week, so with that in mind, the lesson load is doable and relaxed, but there is plenty of material each week to see the improvement in your skills. She also is approaching the lessons based on what I want to learn, not what a "by the letter" teacher thinks you should know. The studio location is not only chill but convient, literally around the corner. Highly recommend Indigo for anyone picking up a guitar."
