Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. Learning an instrument is no easy feat, but having the right plan, structure, and support makes all the difference. My teaching philosophy is designed to meet each student where they are, with a custom approach tailored to their individual needs.

I take time to get to know my students - how they practice, why they pursue their instrument, what their goals are, and who they really are as people. What is it that they truly need right now? Is it a practice schedule, or just some gentle encouragement? A new song to freshen things up, or a tough lesson about persistence? A conversation about homework, or a story to lighten the mood and bring some laughter into the music? As an experienced teacher, I know how big of a difference it makes to really understand the needs of a student.

I am a professional cellist with a graduate degree in music and extensive performing and teaching experience. I look forward to working with you or your child to help accomplish your goals and have fun making music! Lessons are tailored to each students needs and abilities, and I have vast experience working with students of all ages and abilities, from elementary students to college students. I teach online and in-person lessons.

I can provide private lessons for beginner-intermediate level violin and viola students who are in elementary-middle school. I also provide beginner-advanced cello lessons for students of all ages.

Since 2011, I've had the joy of teaching students how to play the violin to the best of their ability. From six year olds just starting out to adults in their 80s who want to learn just for fun, I've successfully taught the skills and techniques to make music on this beautiful instrument.

With a gentle, patient approach, I custom-tailor each lesson to the student's goals, interests, and abilities. Within that framework, I place an emphasis on proper position, technique and intonation. To provide a thorough and well-rounded music education, I also teach note reading, music theory, and ear-training. I do everything I can to make learning fun and engaging -- often using games, flashcards, and interactive exercises to teach certain concepts, especially for younger players.
