I am currently working on 4 new books in the Percussion area and about a dozen more for other instruments.I work with each student to find out what motivates them and how to set goals to reach whatever level they seek. I have worked with almost every age possible and find it exciting to see people find out how great they are.

I have a music education degree, which included years of music theory classes. I am able to help students who want to learn music theory.

About Amy
As I child I had an early interest in music, dancing and creative things. I took piano lessons and excelled at my chosen instrument, the flute, in band at school. I continued with my music training at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in 1992. I worked for 11 years in my profession in various settings before I took a break to start my family. My experience includes teaching students in classroom general music, choir, band, piano lessons, and school plays/musicals. I spent six years at a private school (grades K-8), three years at a charter elementary school and 2 years at a public elementary school. Also, since graduating in 1992 I have spent a total of 18 years teaching private lessons both at Hovland Conservatory of Music and in my home. Along the way I
further broadened my background by accompanying church choirs and congregations, playing for weddings, and volunteering to lead children’s music time at church.

I love music of all kinds and have a strong belief that everyone should experience the joy and power of it in his or her life. It is very rewarding for me to help students develop their skills as they discover a meaningful way of self-expression using a universal language. Teaching music is something I love to do and I know that fact reflects to my students resulting in an enjoyable experience for them as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
What can a student/parent expect from lessons with me? I can provide my students with a solid foundation of proper technique. This is so very important because you do not ever want to have to unlearn bad habits. I also include appropriate music theory, ear training and improvising for each level. I purposefully pace the lessons to prevent students from feeling frustrated. Instead, I work to generate excitement about the learning process and keep students motivated by their own progress. Furthermore, I am willing to accommodate a student if they have a special interest in a certain musical genre or a personal goal they are working towards. I encourage, but do not require students to take advantage of recital and performance opportunities that I provide.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large music room: piano, electric keyboard, flute, clarinet, trumpet, music stands.
*** Specialties ***
I have a lot of experience teaching students who are brand new to their instrument. I believe the beginning is a very important time to start building a solid foundation for all future musical growth. I love being able to help my students establish good habits from the beginning and influence the overall direction of a new student’s musical experience.

I love music of all kinds and have fun playing and teaching all the instruments that I listed. However, the two instruments that I have the most training on and have performed on are the piano and the flute. I would be a great teacher for private lessons to help a student excel in band at school or for a high school student preparing for contests or auditions. Also, I am very patient with beginners and would be ideal as a child'€™s first piano teacher or for an adult who has always wanted to play a certain instrument of his or her choice.

I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

About Mary
I began taking piano lessons on a whim in middle school, but it didn't take long before I realized I was completely in love with music. I enjoy playing and teaching many types of music, from classical to rock to hymns and church music. I learned to play by ear at the same time I learned to sight read, and both approaches have helped me to learn and enjoy the music I play.

I graduated in December 2010 with a BA in Music Performance from North Central University, here in the Twin Cities. I have been teaching and playing piano for the last 9 years. Watching other people learn to play music is one of the greatest rewards I've received.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe music has incredible educational value, but I also believe that it should be enjoyable. Every music student is different and has a different purpose for wantin
g to learn music, and I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their goals.

Being a well-rounded musician has not only helped me in my music career, but it has helped me experience and enjoy many different kinds of music. I expect students to play different types of music with a main focus on one genre. If you want to learn to play classical music only, I teach sightreading, technical skills, and with a little time and practice you or your child can be playing some of the simpler masterworks by the end of the first year. But I also encourage classical pianist to try out a rock song or improvisation.

The same goes for those who are only interested in learning how to play rock music or church music. Being able to sightread is invaluable to a musician, and after a few lessons on chords and ear-training, I like to introduce basic sight-reading.

Developing a love for the instrument you play is just as important as developing the technical skills to play it. I do my best as a teacher to learn what it is that students enjoy most about playing and incorporate that into lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio--New Kawai upright

Lino Lakes--Baldwin upright, good condition, and electric piano

*** Specialties ***
I can play and teach in a variety of genres, from classical to pop to church music. I teach students to sight-read, and I can also teach students to play off a chord chart or by ear if these are things that student expresses an interest in.

I've found that the method books available to piano students are thorough and effective, especially for beginning students of elementary age. I've used different books, including Faber & Faber, Alfred, and Hal Leonard. All of these have strengths and weaknesses, and I like to pick the method depending on the personality of the student.

Music notation, chord study, major & minor keys/scales, modes, harmonic structure.

About Yasmin
I studied classical piano and theory with Sr. Cecile Amore, jazz theory and mellophone with be-bop saxophonist John Mastroianni, jazz piano with Noreen Grey, and jazz history with the late Bill Finegan- big-band leader and acclaimed arranger for Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller.

I enjoy playing classical music (primarily Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin) tango, and pop songs as well. I have played keyboards and bass guitar professionally and enjoyed some commercial recognition in California when invited to open for a well known Bay Area band ("Foxboro Hot Tubs" a.k.a. "Green Day") at The Roxy and a handful of other west coast venues.

My music students are introduced to basic music theory, notation, and technique to enable them to play fun, simple melodies after the first lesson, and fun simple arrangements after the first month.
My stude
nts can expect lessons to suit their tastes and goals, whether they intend to pursue music formally, professionally, or for personal enjoyment.

*** Lesson Details ***
Expect this to be fun! All lessons will incorporate proper playing technique and elements of the most basic theory, no matter the style of music. If students can devote some time to practice every week, they will see results. If students practice daily, they may exceed their expectations!

With each new song or lesson to be learned, I walk you through each part so that your practice time alone is fruitful. I encourage students to tell me what they want to learn. Any arrangement, classical or pop, can be made accessible to any level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-Studio lessons take place in teacher's home or at Chanson Voice and Music Academy in St. Paul.

*** Specialties ***
Ear training, music notation & sight reading, music theory, tablature, lead sheets, solo and ensemble.
Classical training, for those so inclined!

Theory and Composition were my primary areas of study in college, and I currently have a Songwriting Vlog with over 1,000 subscribers. I know how to apply these tools to the Pop/Rock/etc. landscape and I like to help my students also appreciate and use these tools. There are no rules in music, only trends, and it helps to know them.

About Richard
Rick's been teaching Guitar, Banjo, and Ukulele at his home, and at the Mount Olivet School of Music in South Minneapolis, ever since graduating with a degree in Music from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2003. He also teaches traveling lessons to students in the south and southwest metro areas. Rick plays around town in 3 bands and also does the occasional Musical Pit Orchestra and Wedding gig. He also taught at Dayjams Rock Music camp in St. Paul for the five summers of its existence. In his spare time he writes YA Stories and Musicals, as well as running a Songwriting and Music Theory Blog about Tonal Trends in popular music, and a Guitar Curriculum Blog based on Karate Belts.

*** Lesson Details ***
Depending on student interest, lessons can consist of Ear Training, Improv/Jamming, learning Popular Guitar Riffs/Changes/Parts/
Etc., Note Reading, the Music Biz, and learning about all the cool new Music Technologies of the day. Rick also loves to transcribe any and all music the student wants to learn but for which they cannot find the sheet music or internet tab. Rick prefers to teach what the student wants to learn, but if they're not sure what that is, he helps them figure that out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Wifi, Computer, and iPhone. I make good use of technology during lessons. Much used apps include Guitarbots, Slow Down Music Trainer, TabPro, and the Guitar Toolkit (metronome, tuner, etc.)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music Stand (if needed), and iPhone tech.

*** Specialties ***
Music Theory and Songwriting.

If you UNDERSTAND how music works, with enough time you can ultimately play anything on any instrument--I suppose that's my musical theory ;)

From the circle of fifths to the "rules" of 4-part harmony, if you learn theory you learn to jam, compose and listen to music in ways you may not have heard before.

About Jeff
I have been playing guitar for 30 years and teaching guitar and bass on and off since 2001. I owned a music school/store/studio in NY for several years but now live in MN. I work well with kids and enjoy watching them grow as musicians and people.

I also like to do "Family/Band" lessons--where we get each member on an instrument (guitar, bass, piano, drums, etc.) and the family/group learns to play songs together--or jam, or write and record their own songs! Since there isn't really a platform for it through this website, my price listed for a "90-minute" lesson is not actually 90 minutes, but rather a 45-minute lesson for a group of up to four people.

I primarily offer lessons in my home studio but will consider coming to you if its preferred.

I also teach beginner level piano, mandolin, and drums and built, sell and custom
ize electric guitars. My in-house store stocks tuners, capos, strings, picks, straps, cables, etc. As well as Jamster guitars.
