I believe it is very important to understand the why and how behind music. As the student understands music theory in relation to piano, voice, or any other instrument, he/she can start to join the knowledge of music theory with their instrument. When this happens, they are able to see a clearer of picture of the music; and become that much closer to true musicianship.

About Shae
I am an music instructor with 27 years of experience. I have a Bachelor's degree in Sacred Music with a major in Voice. I have been playing piano for 35 years with having been an accompanist for choirs and soloists and a pianist at weddings and churches. I am a believer that anyone can learn piano and improve their abilities! I also know that a knowledge of music and music theory go together to improve one's learning ability in any area of his/her life. The student and I would work together. I don't just teach the "how to", I help and encourage taking time at the lesson to learn and understand the music. I am a huge advocate of building the student's skills during the lesson time and using the rest of the week on their own to continue to review the skills they have already acquired. I have a piano recital once a year in the spring
. 2 or 3 months ahead, we decide on a song they like that will show off their acquired skills. I look forward to being your teacher! We will have fun learning!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a friendly person and like to put everyone at ease. I try to adapt to each student's learning style. As I have hinted at in my bio, I teach the skills and then we work together on these skills during the lesson. The idea is for the knowledge and skills to come together before the student tries on their own. The student actually learns quicker this way and we repeat lessons much less. The student also desires to learn when they see those goals being attained at a quicker pace. I usually average one lesson book every 2-3 months, depending on the student.

*** Specialties ***
I have taught every method available for piano. My preference is Faber & Faber. For more advanced students we create our own curriculum.

I have been immersed in music theory for the last 13 years & have been tutoring/mentoring people in this field for about as long as I've been studying it. From the basics up to serial/spectral music & everything in between. Comfortable in traditional, pop & "rock" music theory, & what goes into each style to make it what it is.

About Alex
Hey, my name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance, with minors in Music Production & Composition. While attending St. Thomas I served as the Music Theory tutor, as well as the live sound/stage/light/recording technician for student & faculty recitals.

I have been playing professionally & teaching for over a decade. My passion for music is something that I love to share with anyone else who feels inclined to make music. My goal is to share the skills & knowledge I've acquired throughout my experiences with those willing to learn & dedicate themselves
to the craft of making music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am experienced in most major genres of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, metal, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, instrumental rock, "shred," pop, world music, electronica, etc. & feel comfortable conveying the techniques, approaches & idioms to a student by breaking them down into digestible components, while making these new ideas relatable to material they are already familiar with.

In the end, I want the student to learn what they're most interested in learning. I'm here to answer any questions they may have & with my experiences, I feel confident that I will be able to either answer these questions or point them in the right direction. Some topics covered:

Scales/modes
Ear training
Instrument-specific techniques (ie bending, tapping, sweep picking, etc.)
Songwriting & Composition
Arranging & Orchestrating
Sight-reading
Improvisation
Chordal theory & how to read charts
Practice routines & approaches
Instrument maintenance
Instrument-based gear (guitars, amplifiers, effects, picks, slides, capos, etc.)

The student will learn at the pace they set for themselves & can only get out of it the amount of effort they put forth. I expect my students to practice on a regular basis (however brief each session may be). Consistency is key for progress to be made, & if they hold up their end of the bargain, the payoffs will be quite substantial!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice amplifier, tuner, music stand(s), guitar picks & cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitar neck paper. I expect the students to have their own instrument & any materials they may need to achieve the goals they've set for themselves (such as a weekly notebook).

*** Specialties ***
Progressive rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, disco, classical, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, flamenco guitar; music theory, sight-reading, composition, songwriting, film scoring, music production.

I have a music education degree, which included years of music theory classes. I am able to help students who want to learn music theory.

About Amy
As I child I had an early interest in music, dancing and creative things. I took piano lessons and excelled at my chosen instrument, the flute, in band at school. I continued with my music training at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in 1992. I worked for 11 years in my profession in various settings before I took a break to start my family. My experience includes teaching students in classroom general music, choir, band, piano lessons, and school plays/musicals. I spent six years at a private school (grades K-8), three years at a charter elementary school and 2 years at a public elementary school. Also, since graduating in 1992 I have spent a total of 18 years teaching private lessons both at Hovland Conservatory of Music and in my home. Along the way I
further broadened my background by accompanying church choirs and congregations, playing for weddings, and volunteering to lead children’s music time at church.

I love music of all kinds and have a strong belief that everyone should experience the joy and power of it in his or her life. It is very rewarding for me to help students develop their skills as they discover a meaningful way of self-expression using a universal language. Teaching music is something I love to do and I know that fact reflects to my students resulting in an enjoyable experience for them as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
What can a student/parent expect from lessons with me? I can provide my students with a solid foundation of proper technique. This is so very important because you do not ever want to have to unlearn bad habits. I also include appropriate music theory, ear training and improvising for each level. I purposefully pace the lessons to prevent students from feeling frustrated. Instead, I work to generate excitement about the learning process and keep students motivated by their own progress. Furthermore, I am willing to accommodate a student if they have a special interest in a certain musical genre or a personal goal they are working towards. I encourage, but do not require students to take advantage of recital and performance opportunities that I provide.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large music room: piano, electric keyboard, flute, clarinet, trumpet, music stands.
*** Specialties ***
I have a lot of experience teaching students who are brand new to their instrument. I believe the beginning is a very important time to start building a solid foundation for all future musical growth. I love being able to help my students establish good habits from the beginning and influence the overall direction of a new student’s musical experience.

I love music of all kinds and have fun playing and teaching all the instruments that I listed. However, the two instruments that I have the most training on and have performed on are the piano and the flute. I would be a great teacher for private lessons to help a student excel in band at school or for a high school student preparing for contests or auditions. Also, I am very patient with beginners and would be ideal as a child'€™s first piano teacher or for an adult who has always wanted to play a certain instrument of his or her choice.

You will study of rudiments of written theory, including notation, scales, key signatures, music terminology, intervals, rhythm and meter, chord construction, and music reading.

I incorporate a very balanced curriculum including both traditional theory (classical based) and chord theory (pop, jazz and blues.)

About Melody
Are you looking to sing or play keyboard, work on material for your band, build your repertoire, sing or play in the church choir/band, audition for a production, become a better lead singer in your rock or pop band, overcome stage-fright or wanting to get to the next level? You have come to the right place!

My lessons provide students with an opportunity to deeply explore the voice, build confidence, and to develop healthy and effective singing practices, which can be applied to any style of musical singing and playing.

A well-rounded music education is very important and I have fun and educational resources for learning vocal technique, ear training, harmony, pitch matching and music theory.

I am very fortunate to have performed and studied Classical and Opera, musical theater productions, have sang in Rock, Pop, Country, R&B
bands and can bring that real-world experience into the lesson. The student will receive real hands-on knowledge about singing in a variety of environments and how to manage his/her vocal goals!

In addition to being vocally healthy, I encourage self-expression and enhance self-esteem in my students: singers of all ages, skill levels and styles. Plus, it has to be fun, otherwise why do it? Singing is a process and less about the end goal and we train the body, mind and use imagination and it's a very exciting process!

***My students regularly receive scholarships and placement in music schools and programs around the U.S., have won competitions, do well in auditions, are performing in successful bands and/or recording artists.

I am energetic and enthusiastic; actively promote values and traditional teaching practices coupled with the introduction of technology into the lesson. My experience as an educator is to share passion and talent for music with the next generation of musicians and outstanding communication skills. I really care about my students and provide the tools to help them reach their goals!

Degrees:
Bachelor of Music, minor in Psychology from Michigan State University
Master of Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University

Here is some of my experience as a performer: I have sung Internationally at the renowned €œEisteffodd Music Festival€ in Wales, toured through Britain and performed at the Laupin Agile Cabaret in Paris. I was honored with a nomination to attend the prestigious Yale Cabaret Conference and worked with cabaret legend Julie Wilson and Manhattan Transfer founder Laurel Masse. Sung and performed roles with the Mid-Michigan and Detroit Opera Companies. Performed a production of Sleepwalkers€ with the Kari Margolis Brown Company at the O'Shaughnessy Theatre. I currently perform all over the Twin Cities with my own R&B/Soul Band, Melody and The Dramatics!€ Plus, I am a contract vocalist and perform in a variety of other projects, so needless to say, it is all a very awesome ride!

*** Lesson Details ***
My laid-back and fun approach allows for versatility and is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. When studying the art of singing you are gaining skills, which build confidence.

When you understand what you'€™re doing and why, you bring more confidence to your performance. Progress is made with regular practice outside of lessons. Voice students record each private lesson through their devices and take notes in their own notebooks.

I have "warm-up" tracks which you can use in your car or at home and you will notice significant improvement once you start your routine.

Practicing is very important and I have great methods to teach students how to maximize their time and get the best results! I am privileged to have an opportunity to teach and very passionate about coaching a student to meet his or her musical goals!

Also, I have a Beagle named "Bacon" and he will always be very excited to see you, however he does calm down when you're in the studio. In addition, I have two cats, so please let me know if you have allergies or any special recommendations.

Thanks so much!
Melody

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the music room, PA system, piano, keyboard, laptop, recording microphone, microphone, mirror.

The house is in a cul-de-sac and there is ample street parking. Also, in the case of a snow emergency, you will be able to park in the driveway.

*** Specialties ***
I teach in a variety of vocal styles including, rock, pop, jazz, country and classical, keyboard and music theory. I have been trained by some of the best instructors in the country and strive for my students to be vocally healthy, so they'll have long careers. I also perform in professional bands, orchestras and can bring that experience into the lesson.
Energetic and enthusiastic; actively promote values and traditional teaching practices coupled with the introduction of technology into the lesson. Experienced educator eager to share passion and talent for music with the next generation of musicians and outstanding communication skills.

I've been a guitar player for a while and have wanted to learn how to sing along with the guitar. Mark has done an excellent job determining where I currently am as a singer and how I can get to where I want to be as a singer. He has started with the basics and explaining to me how you can improve as a singer by making routine out of several exercises. He has done a great job not just explaining what the exercises are, but why they are beneficial to me as a vocalist. After gathering a better sense of my voice, I have started bringing my guitar to lessons and he has helped me immensely to blend my voice with my instrument. Since doing these lessons, I've had the confidence in my voice to start performing at open-mic nights in the Twin Cities and I thank Mark for that! He is wonderful!

Did you decide just before senior year of high school to major in music? Do you want to go back to school for music? This is the place for you! Using the Ultimate Music Theory curriculum, I will help you get ready to achieve those goals. I will also include some basic keyboard skills, a.k.a. keyboard theory. About Siri
I am passionate about providing the most well-rounded music training to singers and pianists of all ages. This includes learning healthy technique, sight-reading, theory and analysis, and appropriate repertoire. Singers also learn acting techniques. Flutists can get a solid start on their instrument with good tone and note-reading skills. I have MM degrees in Voice and Piano Performance and Instrumental Conducting and am nationally certified in piano teaching through MTNA. I am an active member of both MTNA and NATS.

Touring guitarist, experienced composer for film/media, and professional music instructor for the past 8 years! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from McNally Smith College of Music with two bachelor's degrees; Guitar Performance and Instrumental Composition. I have taught students of literally all ages (4-76) and most specialize in guitar, music theory, and composition. I also teach beginner to intermediate piano lessons! My greatest strong suit as a teacher is my incredible flexibility in adapting to the student's learning style. Originally a self-taught guitarist, I know the struggles of learning or continuing to better oneself on an instrument. I guarantee you that I will work hard and patiently with you to help you reach your musical goals!

About Ethan
Hello and thank you for checking out my profile! My name is Ethan E. and I'm 22 years old. Originally raised in the northwestern tip of Minnesota, I moved to St. Paul to pursue a degree(s) in music after receiving a scholarship to McNally Smith College of Music. I am an active performer in the Twin cities area playing freelance and with the Adam Meckler Orchestra and Mariah Mercedes band. I'm comfortable playing a wide range of styles, but play mostly contemporary Jazz, Fusion, Classical, and Rock/Blues. I work closely with Grammy-nominated producer/arranger Andy Thompson (Taylor Swift/Jeremy Messersmith) and composer/arranger Adi Yeshaya (The Voice, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston). My ultimate love is composing music for orchestra and jazz ensemble. Composers and guitarists that have influenced me the most are Allan Holdsworth
, Pat Metheny, Sergei Rachmaninoff, John Williams, Randy Rhoads, and Adrien Moignard. Please let me share my knowledge and passion for music with you today!

Ethan's personality and teaching approach has made the last 3 months of learning guitar very enjoyable and inspiring! His playing and compositions amazed me from the very first lesson. His teaching environment is very beautiful and professional (he lives in an artist loft) I've recommended him to friends who've started taking lessons with him as well! :)
