Private Music Theory Teacher

I have been teaching music lessons both privately in schools and in my home for over ten years.
I take beginners as well as intermediate students.
The students learn the lines and spaces of both Treble and Bass Clefs with me during their regular music lesson. They also learn the note values and the time and key signatures in both clefs. This is done at the same time of their music lesson.
I also use the tool of Music Ace Deluxe for their computer, which the students find a lot of fun, and it is a easy way to remember the theory that they have learned in their lesson. I also teach music theory as a memory skill by use of some games and flash cards. Music Theory is something they they will use for the rest of their lives.

About Kathy

I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I

A great passionate violin instructor.
Loquacious, but each moment of verbal conversation has a message that leads to the musical lessons of the day. I really appreciate her knowledge and skill. I am often reminiscent of my violin instructor as a child. Each session leaves me with the zeal to practice hard in eager preparation
for the next.

Kathy is a kind, patient and methodical teacher. She develops your piano skills with a structured program of theory and exercises geared toward constant improvement. She has helped me improve my piano technique throughout our time together. I have been able to play increasingly challenging pieces on a regular basis with her. I look forward to steadily improving my piano skills.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

I'll teach you essential "meat and potato" music theory that will quickly help you understand music on a deeper level, and get you closer to understanding why the music you love works. I prefer to teach harmonic concepts through well known songs that illustrate the concept. I can help you prep for any test/college audition test coming up as well. NOTE: I do not teach intermediate/advanced level classical theory.

"I am extremely happy with my first five lessons. I feel that my instruction is individualized well to my short term goals, which is to develop a solid theoretical foundation that enables me to understand compositional approaches and methodologies and prepare me to create my own compositions and arrangements. Currently the format of our lesson is to analyze/discuss a piece in detail with a compositional or arrangement exercise to reinforce the main techniques of the piece. (which is reviewed at the subsequent lesson). The exchange of ideas (as well as the exercises) have resulted in me learning something fun and interesting every single lesson. I highly recommend Jaxon as a music theory instructor."
