I teach from the earliest beginner through adult. My violin students are currently performing for different schools and ensembles. When students are performing with orchestras, much time is spent working on that music as well as their regular music.

About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

Anna is very good at explaining terms and methods in a way that can be easily understood by a novice such as myself by catering to one's style of learning while at the same time ensuring that the student remain grounded on the fundamentals whether it is in the finger positioning, bowing strokes, or proper posture. I love how she is able not only to identify things that I might be doing wrong but also solutions to difficulties that I might be having during the lessons. As a result, I am very happy at how I have progressed in my skill level since I started a couple of months ago. She is very patient, listens to concerns of the student, very easy to talk to, and has a laid back learning environment. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know who might be interested in learning the violin, whether young or old like myself.

I've taught ages 3 to 35, beginner to undergraduate collegiate level. I can develop your left hand, bow technique, and musicality to the point that you will sound better when you leave a lesson than when you arrive every single time. I will inspire a love for the instrument that will carry through the week with you.

About Gabrielle
I'm a violinist and pianist from West Friendship, Maryland with twenty years of experience on each instrument and ten years experience teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Louisville. I believe in using positive feedback to develop a student's passion for playing music. I would have described how 'passionate' Gabbi is about violin but unfortunately never had that opportunity. I had scheduled the class 10 days in advance and on the day of the class Gabbi decided to shoot an email couple hours before saying she can't make it.
A dollar is minute is a very decent compensation which I don't make as an engineer with 7 years of college education. But unfortunately that didn't inspire enough professionalism in Gabbi. Maybe she reserves her professionalism for few people and not for everyone.

Gabby is a great violin teacher. She customizes her lessons to your needs, and she encourages and gives great pointers throughout the lesson. My daughter leaves her lessons with so much more knowledge and hints - than when she came with to the lesson. I have seen her improve greatly in her playing in just a few lessons.

Detailed work and listening to what you are playing, inside and outside the lesson.

About Jonathan
I have studied with Wanchi Huang at James Madison University for six years. At JMU, I earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music, both in violin performance. I received my D.M.A. at Catholic University of America, studying with Jody Gatwood. When I was a student at JMU, I taught several students privately. The students ranged from retirees to JMU faculty and students to adolescents. I am now teaching at Baltimore Talent Education Center, where I teach violin in small groups and individual lessons. The students at BTEC range from pre- kindergarden through high school. I also have festival experience. I have been a student at Brevard Music Center, Heifetz International Music Institute, BayView Music Festival, and I was a Teaching Fellow at Interlochen Arts Camp. Through my experiences both as a student and as a teacher, I un
derstand that every student is a little bit different. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses. Every student has a different learning style. Every student has a different way of understanding things, a different way of processing information, and a different personality all together. It will be my job as a teacher to get to know each student individually and use my teaching methods to teach the student how to play the violin and help him or her to reach his or her goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back person. I am easy-going, enthusiastic about violin playing and about teaching and learning music, and I am very patient with my students as well. However, I am also very demanding. I explain and demonstrate objectives in a very precise way, and I demand a lot of detailed work from my students, inside and outside the lesson. I explain specifically what I want the student to do. By the end of every lesson, the student will have specific things to work on for next time. I expect each student to make practicing a habit, and practice regularly what has been discussed in the lesson. I try to make the lessons as pleasant and as laid-back as possible. But I become more firm, serious, and strict when a student either is not making an effort or does not practice enough outside the lesson.
I start students off with the Suzuki method. We work on techniques to hold the violin properly, hold the bow properly, and get a decent sound out of the violin, without too much physical tension. A student begins by learning to play by ear. After he or she is comfortable playing by ear, we associate the notes that the student hears and plays on the violin with written notes on a page.
We also work with the Paul Roland methods so that the student can learn the violin in a basic, rudimentary way. It involves a lot of repetitive patterns, back and forth motions that are slow and round, and avoiding excessive tension. This will give the student the tools that he or she needs to learn how to play the violin in a short period of time.
In three to six months, a student who is a beginner will be able to hold the violin and bow comfortably, create a decent sound on the violin, and play the Twinkle Variations, and maybe a few other songs.
If the student has played violin before, then in three to six months, he or she will have had some rehabilitation to get rid of tension and force, overcome some bad habits he or she may have developed, and review the fundamentals of violin playing. I will improve the student's approach to the violin, and by the end of the three to six months, he or she will have a better idea on how to practice and play the violin.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, seating for parents in the living room,

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide a stand.
I will expect the student to have a violin, rosin, and a pencil.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki Method- a starting point, particularly for kids, but for people of all ages. It is a good way to begin learning the violin by playing by ear, developing a strong, clear tone, and bringing out one's individuality through his/her musical development and his/her ability to be expressive.

In a matter of time, I want the student to get used to reading music, in addition to playing by ear. This can be done through the pieces in the Suzuki method or through other music.

Eventually, I take the student off of the Suzuki method and work with him or her on classical repertoire.

About Sepehrdad
As an experienced Violin teacher I help students to teach themselves the violin, to understood that their playing only improves when they change habits. A bored or disinterested child simply won’t progress, and a great violin teacher knows how to communicate with creativity and clarity. I have proper knowledge of the violin’s mechanics, general musical and repertoire knowledge, skilled as a player, and strength as a communicator. I have a bachelor degree in string performance, and I’ve taught students from beginner to advance for more than 10 years, guided students participating in inter-school musical shows, competitions and different musical presentations – Fests and orchestras. OMG my excitement is through the roof after my first lesson with Humberto! I can't even get my feet to touch the ground. I am an adult, basically starting from scratch picking up my violin for the first time in 20+ years having played for a year as a kid. I was so nervous, and feel silly starting at such an elementary level, and Humberto's instruction was not only expert, but his enthusiasm was completely genuine. He was authentically supportive every step of the way and thrilled at every moment of progress. His infectious smile made me feel so safe being a novice starting over and so excited for my next lesson...which he's not teaching me in Spanish since he learned I need to practice my dusty Spanish skills as well! Couldn't recommend him highly enough, love love love Humberto and can't wait til next week's lesson!

I have a lot of experience with the Suzuki method as a teacher and also a player having started with that myself. However unless the player or parent specifies that they want strict Suzuki, I go with my method which involves Suzuki but also other methods. I was not strict Suzuki and it definitely worked for me as well as students of mine!

About Erica
My name is Erica and I have been playing violin for 19 years and teaching for 8. I have a violin performance bachelor degree and Suzuki Teacher Certification for books 1-10 from The Cleveland Institute of Music. During my time teaching in the Suzuki program I worked with 15 students at different levels of playing and age groups. I also ran group classes on Saturdays. I completed 100 hours of lesson and group lesson observations. After those four years of undergrad I went on to receive a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School. I had a private teaching studio in New York with 10 students ages ranging from 5 to 60 years. I Recieved a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory. Currently I am pursuing a doctorate degree at the University of Maryland. I absolutely love teaching and Starting at any age is fantastic!

My ultimate goal as a teacher is to educate and inspire my students, provoke and develop their interest and love to music and the violin. While not solely using a single method or school, I use a combination of all knowledge I earned as a pedagogue on the multiple continents. I guide each student into the discovery of the most natural, relaxed technique and develop a set of skills necessary to be able to understand, analyze and interpret music of various styles and genres.

About Dr. Tatiana
Praised in the media for her 'dark plush romantic violin sound' (New York Concert Review)and 'thrilling technique and bravura style" (San Francisco Classical Voice) violinist Tatiana Chulochnikova is pursuing an active career as a soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician with performances spanning throughout the United States with groups such as Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists and the Four Nations Ensemble. An award winning violinist, Tatiana is also a founder of the Rubinstein Music Society - organization which strives to uncover the legacy of forgotten and unfairly unnoticed classical composers. The violin has been a constant and enriching presence throughout my life, and I enjoy helping people engage with this instrument that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure. No matter your age or level of expertise, I would be happy to help you along as you discover new musical territory. I’m most fluent in the classical style, but am happy to explore other areas with you as well, from bluegrass to Broadway.

About Kris
I have been teaching the violin to students of all ages and abilities for close to twenty years, and have had great satisfaction in seeing them all grow and develop over time. Some of my younger students have gone on to the Interlochen Arts Camp, and one of my former adult students still makes an annual summer pilgrimage to a chamber music festival in Ullapool, Scotland. Whatever your interest or ambition, I would be more than happy to help you along your way.

In addition to teaching, I am currently a member of the Delaware and West Virginia Symphony Orchestras, a former member of the Huntsville, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and have performed as a substitute violinist with the Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Maryland Symphony, and National Philharmonic Orchestras. I hold a BM in violin from George Mason University.

I have been teaching violin for six years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements or Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4.
