Sean was a great teacher. I asked him if he knew how to teach Bollywood style Violin and even though he didn't he took the time to study it and learn just to teach me. I really appreciate that he was so open to trying so hard for his students. I think Sean is great!
Marc T.
Great first lesson. High hopes for follow lessons.

I self-taught myself guitar over 35 years ago; mostly forgotten. Sean began with establishing goals that would meet my goals. The feedback to me during the lessons was focused and delivered in a friendly manner. Progression was enhanced due to his manner and his approach to teaching. While this was the first lesson, I am looking forward to future lessons.

Music theory is an essential part of music making, whether one is reading sheet music or learning by ear. Through two degrees in music (my BA in music from the Oberlin Conservatory and MM in music from the Peabody Conservatory), I have taken over 40 credits of advanced music theory classes. My teaching caters to all levels, and is specialized to fit each student.

absolutely wonderful.

She encourages, she finds analogies to explain, she is more patient with me then I am with myself. She also explains the terms, gives tips on how to read the notes. She is able to identify the mistakes and give the right advice on how to improve. Her advice on how to practice made all the difference for me. I started with a giant cookie bite sized embouchure and within a few lessons I have managed to make it smaller thanks to her instructions. There is hope for me afterall.
Looking forward to playing a duet with her without me making a mess. Thank you Amanda!
Mike
Amanda is an outstanding teacher. She inspires and challenges me to play pieces I did not think I could play. She is able to take difficult passages and break them down step my step so I can learn how to play them properly. I am sure I would not be playing as I am now, if it weren’t for Amanda’s skilled teaching. She is also friendly, makes the lessons interesting and fun and is very professional. I have taken lessons both in person and on Skype and she excels in both modes.

Music theory is what makes music come alive. I teach this subject very passionately.

Being able to identify the structures in music turns the whole enterprise of becoming a musician into a different, fun, and exciting task.

Suddenly the musical world is filled with ideas that can be written, communicated and absorbed as musical ideas alone, not simply impressions or feelings.

About David

Hello everyone! My name is David, and I am a NYC based performer, producer, and educator. I have been teaching in the area ever since I left high school to students both young and old. I have a great deal of experience, and offer a focused, yet light and enjoyable lesson that allows for individu

David's experience definitely shows when he's teaching music, instead of doing things "by the book", David is able to adapt and cater to the way I learn, making things that have eluded my intelligible grasp my whole life easy to understand.

I love teaching theory! People tend to have problems with theory, and my favorite part is simplifying the most complex ideas and making them understand it. There is no feeling more satisfying than that.

I teach all sorts of theory. Whether it's basic theory, song writing, harmony, or counterpoint, it's one of my favorite subjects to teach

I am a classically trained violinist and singer songwriter who is looking to improve my piano skills. In our lesson I felt like I was able to get the type of thorough instruction I was looking for. We covered position, technical exercises, and classical pieces that I should be proficient in. It was apparent that Mesrop has a very deep understanding of this instrument and can approach it from the technical perspective I was looking for. I’m also happy that I can bring in songs from my songwriter project and get a composition perspective on those when I need it. It’s a very good balance for me as a performer and a songwriter. It’s important to find a teacher who you genuinely like, and Mesrop’s kind personality and professionalism are a great fit for me.
Daniel
I have been wanting to learn piano for some time, and was recommended to Mesrop by a friend. He has been very patient with my pace of learning, which isn't always the fastest, and introduced concepts in a really logical and digestible way. Great guy and teacher, highly recommend!
Arsen
I've always enjoyed playing guitar and bass, but the added element of piano was something that seemed so daunting I convinced myself to let it go. Mesrop was able to break it down so simply for me from the start, and I'm extremely thankful for his patience and focus throughout lessons. Along the way, I picked up more on theory and am now more comfortably able to transcribe as well. I think he's a tremendous musician but an equally excellent teacher.

I have had Randy as my instructor for over a year and he has helped me develop my singing skills to a level I didn’t think was possible. Even after the first few weeks of class, I noticed a difference in my singing. Randy is extremely knowledgeable and does a wonderful job of teaching. He does well with explaining techniques and makes things easily understandable. He is also very kind, talented and professional. I will always be grateful to Randy because he is helping me to be a singer that I always dreamt of being!

"AMAZING!

I met Dave in my music theory class at Ex'pression college. He's the reason why I'm making music today. I went from not knowing a thing about music theory or a piano to creating chord progressions, understanding modes, intervals, modal interchange, and how to read sheet music. He's extremely patient, professional, and easy to get along with. His passion for music and teaching is infectious, I highly recommend!!!"

"Kelly really knows her theory, inside and out. And she can explain how it all works. It's much easier to memorize a piece once you understand the theory behind it: the progression of the chords, and their functions. I wish my former teachers had known theory instead of making me memorize all those notes with no explanation."

Every lesson is packed full of information and he makes sure you totally get and understand the lesson before moving onto the next chapter. I really appreciate that he corrects me whenever I make mistakes especially when it comes to staying on beat while playing the piano with the metronome. Lessons are also never boring with him. "My middle-school aged son did a two hour session with Dr. Darrell one day where I would venture to say they covered a month's worth of music theory material. After a while I got tired listening to it, but my son didn't. Darrell is patient yet firm, tough but caring. Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …
