Nikita is an incredible teacher. He has taught me so much about control, elevating my playing greatly. Dear students and parents,

Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am a Baltimore born and bred classically trained violinist with over 19 years of playing experience. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!

I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.

I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 10 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as well as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced studen
ts have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.

A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and eventually went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England and Northern Ireland. I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended several teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.

*** Lesson Details ***
While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.

I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!

*** Travel Equipment/Home Lesson Details ***
-Please have a music stand available and set up for lessons that take place in your home.
-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.

**Please note, there are three cats and a small, affectionate and very friendly Papillon in the house. They are all isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to reschedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.

New students:
I have a trial 1/2, 3/4 & 4/4 size violin to use for the first lesson.
After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.

Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.

*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests ***
1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within two weeks of the canceled lesson.

2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice (I completely understand life happens, and sometimes it is unavoidable to provide 24hr notice), you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio on Tilmont Ave and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson. This also applies to "in-home" lessons-- if you are not home when I arrive and no notice was given, this will result in the lesson also being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.

5) I require two weeks notice if you would like to discontinue lessons.

I would have described how 'passionate' Gabbi is about violin but unfortunately never had that opportunity. I had scheduled the class 10 days in advance and on the day of the class Gabbi decided to shoot an email couple hours before saying she can't make it.
A dollar is minute is a very decent compensation which I don't make as an engineer with 7 years of college education. But unfortunately that didn't inspire enough professionalism in Gabbi. Maybe she reserves her professionalism for few people and not for everyone.

Gabby is a great violin teacher. She customizes her lessons to your needs, and she encourages and gives great pointers throughout the lesson. My daughter leaves her lessons with so much more knowledge and hints - than when she came with to the lesson. I have seen her improve greatly in her playing in just a few lessons.

I have studied with Wanchi Huang at James Madison University for six years. At JMU, I earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music, both in violin performance. I am currently working on a doctoral degree at Catholic University of America, studying with Jody Gatwood. When I was a student at JMU, I taught several students privately. The students ranged from retirees to JMU faculty and students to adolescents. I am now teaching at Baltimore Talent Education Center, where I teach violin in small groups and individual lessons. The students at BTEC range from pre- kindergarden through high school. I also have festival experience. and as a teacher, I understand that every student is a little bit different. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses. Every student has a different learning style. Every student has a different way of understanding things, a different way of processing information, and a different personality all together. It will be my job as a teacher to get to know each student individually and use my teaching methods to teach the student how to play the violin and help him or her to reach his or her goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back person. I am easy-going, enthusiastic about violin playing and about teaching and learning music, and I am very patient with my students as well. However, I am also very demanding. I explain and demonstrate objectives in a very precise way, and I demand a lot of detailed work from my students, inside and outside the lesson. I explain specifically what I want the student to do. By the end of every lesson, the student will have specific things to work on for next time. I expect each student to make practicing a habit, and practice regularly what has been discussed in the lesson. I try to make the lessons as pleasant and as laid-back as possible. But I become more firm, serious, and strict when a student either is not making an effort or does not practice enough outside the lesson.
I start students off with the Suzuki method. We work on techniques to hold the violin properly, hold the bow properly, and get a decent sound out of the violin, without too much physical tension. A student begins by learning to play by ear. After he or she is comfortable playing by ear, we associate the notes that the student hears and plays on the violin with written notes on a page.
We also work with the Paul Roland methods so that the student can learn the violin in a basic, rudimentary way. It involves a lot of repetitive patterns, back and forth motions that are slow and round, and avoiding excessive tension. This will give the student the tools that he or she needs to learn how to play the violin in a short period of time.
In three to six months, a student who is a beginner will be able to hold the violin and bow comfortably, create a decent sound on the violin, and play the Twinkle Variations, and maybe a few other songs.
If the student has played violin before, then in three to six months, he or she will have had some rehabilitation to get rid of tension and force, overcome some bad habits he or she may have developed, and review the fundamentals of violin playing. I will improve the student's approach to the violin, and by the end of the three to six months, he or she will have a better idea on how to practice and play the violin.

I will expect the student to have a violin, rosin, and a pencil.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki Method- a starting point, particularly for kids, but for people of all ages. It is a good way to begin learning the violin by playing by ear, developing a strong, clear tone, and bringing out one's individuality through his/her musical development and his/her ability to be expressive.

In a matter of time, I want the student to get used to reading music, in addition to playing by ear. This can be done through the pieces in the Suzuki method or through other music.

Eventually, I take the student off of the Suzuki method and work with him or her on classical repertoire.

Great first lesson. High hopes for follow lessons.

I self-taught myself guitar over 35 years ago; mostly forgotten. Sean began with establishing goals that would meet my goals. The feedback to me during the lessons was focused and delivered in a friendly manner. Progression was enhanced due to his manner and his approach to teaching. I have been teaching violin for almost 12 years. Violin is my main specialty as a performer and as a teacher.
This lessons are intended for beginners, intermediate or advanced violin students who wish to learn and become better violinists or musicians.

I am a South-american violinist and violin-music teacher who loves music, dancing, arts, nature, and animals. I am a social, kind, caring, persevere and self-disciplined person.

I started teaching 9 years ago when I was studying my Bachelor'€™s degree. In my country, I was the teacher of 25 lovely children and youth, with whom I created my own violin studio. It started only with 3 students, and after 7 years we were a wonderful group that performed in different recitals, festivals and trips around our country. Together we learned about violin, classical music, popular music, folk music, singing, etc., but most importantly we learned about sensitivity, sharing, self-discipline, respect, creativity and many other personal skills that music helps us learn in such a joyful way.

In Boston, while doing my masters, I also had the oppo

In addition, I have taught adults and elderly (70-72) to play the violin, and find their smiles and learning process more than satisfying. Finally, I was the music teacher in a kinder garden, and had students from 2 to 4 years old. I like to teach people with different ages because I learn from them and their different needs.

I have also had some few students with different abilities such as Down syndrome, Asperger's syndrome and Dwarfism. I cannot say I am an expert but I am open to learn from these students if I have a good orientation and support from the parents and specialists.

Right now, after finishing my Master'€™s degree in Boston, I am living in Chicago because my husband is studying his PhD at Northwestern University. I miss teaching and sharing my love for music with others, that is why I really want to find new students that want to join me in their musical journey.

I believe every person is talented and can learn music. I think that the best way to learn music and arts is from the experience, where the person can develop not only music and instrumental skills, but also creativity, originality, joy and love for music. These are skills that are needed to enjoy and learn music, but also to be a more sensitive and rounded person. My goal is to build a professional and positive environment where the person can develop his/her musical abilities as well as his/her personal skills. In order to achieve this goal, it it usually better to have the lessons in my own studio instead of the student's house. That way we can work with a complete music environment and the student can benefit 100% from the music experience.

I have learned in the process that regular practice and a consistent schedule encourages not only progress but great motivation. Also, I have found that a experience-based approach helps them keep motivated because the students learn much faster and gain a deeper musical intuition than with a theoretical and approach.

I think it is important to give the students the time to talk and share their thoughts about the music. I like to guide them discovering how their bodies feel more comfortable with the instrument, instead of telling them the "correct form". I like to make them clap, sing, move and feel the music before telling them how to play it. I like to introduce music theory and reading from the beginning encouraging them to use their knowledge about music.

In addition, I have found that following the literature of more traditional methods with scales and etudes, helps the students to develop completely in their instruments, with a great technical foundation. That is why I like to mix experience-based methods such as Suzuki, Kodaly and Dalcroze, with traditional books such as Essential Elements, Wolfhart, Kreutzer, etc.

I usually start with Suzuki, The Blue Book, and some personal material that I create for each student depending on their needs. After a while, I start to introduce some pieces of different parts of the world or different styles while introducing scales and etudes. This way I maintain the student's motivation and give them a broader view of music, while developing important skills for their instrument. Then, when the student is ready, I introduce more difficult pieces and solo repertoire.

For adults, I try to adapt my method to their particular goal in music, giving them both fun and the best level they want to achieve. I give them material that is adequate to their needs and also to their preferences.

I have several materials for children and adults. Music cards, music games, toys, puppets, etc.
I also have books to start our journey.However, the student will have to buy his/her own books once we start.
I own one 4/4 violin that could be rented for a tall or adult student. I also own a 3/4 violin for rent.
Smaller violins would have to be rented or bought.

I can travel to the student's house with my instrument if it is within my travel limits (5 miles) and if it is accessible via public transportation.

I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in Voice, Violin and Piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. Artem was incredibly helpful when I was taking my Russian classes. My parents never taught me and I finally decided to learn so I could converse with my grandparents.

I began my professional career in the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra after receiving my B.M. in Viola Performance from the Eastman School of Music. I received my M.M. while in Boise, where I also taught a class on music theory and viola lessons. Shortly after moving to Baltimore, I became the Associate Principal Violist of Symphony Number One, a chamber orchestra with a devotion to performing and commissioning new works.

My primary teachers were Phillip Ying, of the Grammy Award winning Ying Quartet, and Linda Kline, of the Boise Philharmonic and IRIS orchestras. I have performed for and coached with Roberto Diaz, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, Emanuella Ritter, Michelle LaCourse, Allyson Dawkins, Michael Kannan, and members of the Ying Quartet. About Zach
Hello! I'm a full-time private music tutor who currently teaches over 50 lessons each week. In 2007, I began studying the education of historical child prodigies, like Mozart and Picasso, and the curriculums they used as children. At the same time, I was studying cognitive neuroscience, which informed my practice as a teacher. In 2009, I opened a set of fine arts studios for kids which was dedicated to teaching arts that improved the developing brain.

In 2015, I published an article on cognitive ergonomics on the practice of optimizing learning materials for ease and efficiency. In 2016, I filed a patent on a music notation system cognitively optimized for young beginners on piano and stringed instruments, especially violin, viola, cello, and guitar, and started a website designed for self-learning, kindergarten-to-college. As the lead
curriculum designer, my job is to make a modern music curriculum more successful at getting young beginners started loving to play music than any other in the world.

I'm currently beginning work on the foreign language song sets for German, Spanish, and French, as well as the Partner Song Series, which is based directly on a piano curriculum written by Bach for his students, and was used by both Mozart and Beethoven as children!

I've worked with many special needs learners, including ADD/ADHD, low IQ, Autism, Down Syndrome, and blind students. The nature of my curriculum, designed for very young learners, naturally accommodates older learners with special needs.

I really appreciated that Zach was very understanding and flexible with crazy changing work schedules. He does a good job of mixing music theory, technical exercises, while still being open and even encouraging the student to working on styles and pieces they are interested in and enjoy. Zach is great about asking the student what they want to learn and work on, while still making sure that they are always learning something new and always pushing themselves. Zach always seems to genuinely care and get excited about music, teaching, and his students.

Zach is very personable and figured out a great method to motivate my reluctant child--fake money!! He also developed his own musical notation to aid in helping students learn how to read music but in such a way that isn't as complicated as the standard notation. My son really likes him.

My daughter is very shy and quiet. Zach is fantastic and she loves him! He is patient and funny. His way of teaching works! She is just 6 years old and is already playing songs after just 6 weeks. His music curriculum is so easy to understand and play! We've been very impressed.
