I love teaching! I love connecting with people to find out what inspires them and I feel that I learn as much from my students as I teach them.

I have over 25 years of playing experience in a variety of styles and nearly 20 years of experience teaching the guitar to many hundreds students of all ages and backgrounds. I have taught in many different situations, including through schools, music stores and privately. I am primarily trained as a classical guitarist and I hold a Master of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. I have been told by many of my students that I am patient, understanding, very approachable and fun.

Whatever our goals may be in learning to play a musical instrument, the experience and skills we gain in doing so can serve us in every area of our li

Roger was my first guitar teacher, and one of the best teachers that I've had the pleasure to work with. As a professional guitarist, I have had the chance to look back on when I was studying with Roger and compare my opinion now to the opinion I had while I was studying with him. My opinion now is the same as it was back then: Roger is an exceptionally capable and talented educator. He is very easy to work with and is always flexible in each lesson. Flexibility is important; an ideal teacher will have lesson plans with specific skills that he/she feels the student needs to learn, but they will also allow the student's current interests to guide the lessons. Roger was always happy to address any questions or concerns I had, but also made sure to guide my attention to critical skills that helped me grow as a musician. One such skill is proper technique, which is necessary for improving the student's ability to play and for preventing injury. With his background as a classical guitarist, Roger was able to teach me perfect left and right hand technique, which is something I still consider to be one of my strongest assets as a guitarist. His skills and interests extend far beyond classical guitar into genres like rock and jazz. In our lessons we would work on just about anything. We covered topics and styles like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Wes Montgomery, improvisation, James Taylor's fingerstyle playing, music theory, and sight reading. Overall, I found Roger to be an ideal teacher for students at any skill level, from total beginners to those who are highly experienced.

Roger taught guitar lessons to my son Jeffery for 7 years (starting from age 7). Roger is very competent in teaching all ages and making sure the lessons were age appropriate and interesting.

Jeffery really looked forward to weekly lessons with Roger which were only discontinued because we relocated out of state. Roger was not only a teacher but also a mentor to Jeffery, allowing my son to explore all genres of music and methods.

Roger is classically trained and teaches his students to read music and is knowledgeable and offers up to date music lessons.

My son is now in college and taking a music major. I am truly convincined that Roger's influence and care helped grow Jeffery's natural interest in music. I would highly recommend Roger for music lessons. He is a gifted teacher.

I discovered music sifting through my Dad's record collection and soon decided that I wanted to play guitar. As a teenager I began taking lessons and building confidence in my abilities. I played in different types of bands ranging from rock, country, blues, and jazz. After completing College in 2004, I realized music was not just going to be a hobby, but a career. At age 35, I have been teaching and playing guitar professionally for the last 11 years. I believe that anybody can learn to play as long as they are patient and understand that anything worthwhile takes time and sustained effort to achieve. You also need a good teacher who understands how to take you where you want to go musically. I have taught hundreds of different students of all ages and abilities. I have seen many of them grow musically and gain confidence in other
areas of their lives as a result. I aim to inspire every student to find their way to a rewarding life through music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plans are developed on an individual basis. I want you to learn the music that inspires your passion. If the guitar is new to you, the first lessons are devoted to basic playing skills and techniques. It is important to develop a strong understanding of music fundamentals to ensure that the student is attaining the skills they need to be a complete musician. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, rhythm training, and ear training. I have had success with many students using this approach and most are playing songs within a couple months. For the more serious student, music theory is an important tool to understand songwriting and music in general. I am always open to discuss what we do during a lesson. I believe it is my job to balance what you want to do with what you need to do in order to succeed.

Jackson is such an excellent teacher I have ever seen. This is the first time for my 8 years old son to take his piano lesson. Jackson made the class very funny ,interesting and active . My son is a beginner, and Jackson is really patient to him . My son is so happy with Jackson. When we got back home, he practiced piano himself seriously. We are excited for the next lessons.

I've taken five 5 lessons with Jackson. I can tell he has a complete concept about singin and how to teach it. It is based on a lot of existing ideas and some he has developed. The difference is in how the concepts are applied to obtain a result, singing which teaches and moves an audience and not just a technically proficient voice. Candidly, it took me a few lessons to get the vocabulary and ideas to be clear when discussing the concepts and techniques. Now that I have that together I believe there is a lot here to learn. I highly recommend Jackson.

I began my formal study of piano at the age of five. I also studied violin, viola and tap dance during my youth. A very close friend and I founded the Young Senators, a R&B dance band which played throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan are. The group eventually became the “back up” group for Motown’s Eddie Kendricks, of Temptations fame. Throughout my career, I've performed with some celebrated music and movie stars; Cab Calloway, Esther Rolle, Brock Peters and Cecily Tyson, to name a few.

In the late 90s, worked for Jordan Kitts Music, providing (group and private) piano instruction for 3 year old up to adult seniors. My lessons were designed to build cumulative sequences of musical experiences that fostered continuous growth in musical understanding, skills, and knowledge with a focus towards contemporary and traditional ke
yboard harmonies.
In 2000, I worked for the Jewish Primary Day School (Grades K – 6), where I introduced the conceptual structure of music, focusing on melody, rhythm, and harmony and their expressive and stylistic organization. Program objectives included: 1) ability to listen with discrimination, 2) ability to sing on pitch within a limited range, 3) ability to play simple rhythm and melodic instruments, 4) ability to interpret music through body movements, impersonations, and dramatizations, and 5) ability to associate symbols of musical notation with musical concepts.

Today, I perform professionally and provide private online and offline piano instruction for children and adults.

Ron has been my piano instructor for the past three years. I find him to be very knowledgeable in jazz as well as classical music. He goes above the allotted time to ensure your understanding of instructions, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times, even with wit in his oral approach. About Dr. Jonathan
Jonathan began his musical studies at age 7, after falling in love with his first classical music cassette tape given to him the prior year. Jonathan trained as a pianist throughout his childhood, and studied with the venerated Harvey Wedeen at Temple University in Philadelphia through middle and high school. He made his orchestral debut as soloist with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra at age 15, after winning their instrumental competition. Continuing his piano studies into college, where piano was his primary instrument, he completed a bachelors in music at the Eastman School of Music. During these college years, he played regular outreach concerts as part of a chamber group for a myriad of organizations. He has given solo recitals, accompanied other musicians, and played in chamber groups. He now holds a doctorate in music from the Uni
versity of Maryland at College Park.

During high school, Jonathan became fascinated by writing his own music, and now holds three degrees from preeminent schools in the field of music composition. His music has been performed by numerous ensembles and musicians, including the Kronos Quartet, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Eastman Musica Nova, and Knox-Galesburg Symphony. He was recently a featured guest composer at the Bowling Green State University New Music and Art Festival. His piece for stings, Nightscape, has been a particular audience favorite and performed by orchestras across the US. Jonathan also enjoys doing collaborative and multimedia projects with local choreographers, videographers, and musicians.

As a teacher, Jonathan is exceptionally patient, always engaged with his students’ progress, and actively listens to what his students want from their lessons and in helping them decide on the music they want to play. He takes a very practical and holistic approach to teaching keyboard, and always makes sure to discover the fun in learning. Jonathan strongly believes that all students, no matter where one is in life, possess the ability to achieve success in their lessons – and that his job is to guide them to unlock and discover their potential, to inspire their curiosity, and to help them advance their musical skills on their chosen instrument. My primary instrument is clarinet and euphonium but am familiar with most instruments at a beginner to intermediate level.
As a woodwind specialist, I have taught clarinet, flute and saxophone during summer camps and programs for multiple years.
I'm currently the clarinet technique teacher at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC.
