I have spent 37 years teaching Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade music, using an active program of singing, moving, playing, improvising and performing. I follow the principles of the Orff-Schulwerk process of teaching children, but also draw upon my technical and artistic background as a performer: Voice, Cello, Recorder (all voices), Native American-style Flute, Piano, Guitar and the Bass Viola da gamba (I teach all of these privately, as well, up through adult learners). Skills and repertoire are taught with an Historic and Cultural sensibility, especially drawing tunes and activities from the cultural and personal interest of my students. If your children are home-schooled, I would love to work with them and keep the music curriculum going!

About Anne

I love working with young students, to get them started on the path to becoming Musical People. Whether I'm teaching them to play one specific instrument, helping them develop their singing voices, or leading them through a performance-based curriculum based upon The National Standards of Music Ed

For me, performing live any type of music I set my mind to was the ultimate goal in taking up an instrument. If my student has the same goal in mind, I have years of experience from playing concert halls to dive bars and basements in all manner of musical contexts. I can prepare the body and the mind for anything and everything performing requires.

About Tommy

My name is Tommy. I've been playing bass and guitar since I was 11 years old. When I was in high school, I won my school's Duke Ellington Jazz Performance Award my junior year. Around this time I began to work at my neighborhood's local lesson shop Let's Play Music! off of W Broad Street in Falls C

Getting the notes right is crucial. Your performance of those notes is equally as crucial. Our favorite performers have more than just the ability to perform notes though they connect with the work they are presenting and the audience they are presenting it to. I've been performing for over 25 years and would love to help you with your performance technique. We'll work on stance, delivery, emotional connection, and creative visualization to help you deliver your best possible performance. I also specialize in helping one overcome stage fright / performance anxiety. I learned so much from my lessons with Arrica! It was a great balance of learning the basics/ warmups I needed to build a better foundation -- and practicing and learning a song I wanted to focus on. Arrica was supportive, encouraging, and very helpful and specific in her feedback.

Dave is the best instructor I could have hoped for. As an older beginner, I was not sure how much I could pick up but I have made good progress in the past year with his lessons. Lots of fun, look forward to learning more riffs and songs!

My 11 year old has had weekly guitar lessons from Dave for two years now.
Her knowledge and confidence in playing the guitar, has greatly improved. Dave gets all the credit for that.
He works well with her, is communicative, and is as flexible as he can be, even last minute.
I have, and will continue to recommend Dave to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons

"Eric B. was the music instructor for both my children at the middle and high school they attended. Additionally, I taught with Eric for seven years.

My children received excellent music instruction in both trombone and flute. I was pleased with the rigor of the practice that was expected from Eric, which enabled dramatic growth in their musical ability. I was also pleased that they were both able to read music due to the instruction they were given under Eric's tutelage.

As I said earlier, I have worked with Eric as a colleague. I found him to be highly organized, student centered with regard to growth and performance, and a man of high character.

Eric created a Jazz band curriculum at the school corporation we taught at, where he developed several Jazz sections that would perform regularly in the community. Eric would invite notable guest musicians to work with the students and participate with them in these performances.

I would recommend Eric, without reservations, to anyone who desires a quality music instructor."

"Bill is a thoughtful teacher, an amazing musician, and a really caring guy

I would highly recommend Bill! He is such a great player and teacher! He has helped enormously with my saxophone playing, clarinet playing, and improvising.

Since my saxophone playing is already fairly advanced. In our lessons on saxophone focus heavily on advanced jazz improvisation topics, like standard tunes, and transcription. He is so knowledgeable on these advanced topics but is really great at showing me the basics so that I can learn at my own level and pace.

On clarinet Bill and I work on more classical studies and instrument technique to get my clarinet playing more on track.

Bill is such a patient and motivating teacher. It is clear that he cares deeply about MY SUCCESS in music. He has helped me feel good about my musical progress and inspired me to work harder!

He has even given me lots of great music business advice, and helped me think about what I want out of music in my life.

Bill is so easy to get along with and is really careful to explain things in a way that I can understand them.

Its been really awesome getting to know and work with him!"

"For the past couple months, I've been holding down the drum chair for a local San Diego band Aaron and I play with regularly called Quel Bordel! Aaron is super passionate about creating music and provides a fun atmosphere when playing live. He's encouraging, quick witted, enthusiastic and REALLY GOOD! Watching a crowd go crazy during his solos is definitely a testament to his skill as a guitar player and performer. Playing with someone with such a high skill set pushes me to play better myself and hopefully so will you!"

"Kareem is the man. I first met him while playing in the Pierce College Big Band--which he directs and is a perennial first place at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. I studied with him for 6 months formally but over the past 2 years through his weekly jam session and mutual gigs he's become a tremendous influence in my life. Whether your a beginner on your axe or an aspiring jazz student of any level he is the instructor for you.
As an improvisor his main influences are Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, and Joshua Redman. For any jazz musician on any instrument he is a master instructor of bebop. His overall playing versatility is solid but his forte is bebop. He is simply a beast of bebop and can aptly guide you along the path of musical enlightenment. Also, like most great jazz musicians his piano chops are excellent."

"Hallie's dedication and passion is second to none. I had the honor to see her at Sewanee conducting a symphony performing a piece that she composed. In order to put that production together, she had to conceive of the piece, write the parts for each performer, and teach all the musicians how it should sound through rehearsal. It was amazing. That same weekend, she was the soloist performer for a flute concerto and you could see that she really knows her stuff! Her ability to communicate her vast musical knowledge is what makes her a fabulous teacher. I highly recommend Hallie for your music lessons."
