I do a variety of styles in music for the violin. I use whatever method (book or teaching style) is needed to teach what the student needs to learn. I have been teaching violin for 25 years. Depending on age, we will start in either Essential Elements or Suzuki. All beginners will start the bow after they can read the first 8 notes. All intermediates will be able to play 2 octave scales from 3 sharps to 3 flats as well as well into Wolfhart book 1. They will also be able to shift into third position cleanly and will be starting on vibrato. For Advanced players, we will be working on Concertos, sonatas, and partitas if they wish to go classical. IF they wish other styles, we will have started that in intermediate. All students will have an opportunity to go through the music development program, if they are interested.

About Chris
I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and the Music Teachers National Association (Music Teachers Association of Charles County). As a teacher, I'm very student oriented. We move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. I do encourage learning to read music, but I use multiple ways of teaching to reach my students. Everyone learns in a different way. My primary job is to see you achieve your goals in relation to your instrument. I also encourage that you take every opportunity to perform. There are many groups in the area that allow for different ages and styles of music
. I can help you understand what is going on behind the music and hopefully see what the composer was hoping to convey, if that is something you want to know. When I was a student I always wanted to know "why?". As a teacher, you will know why if I do.

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lesson area as stress free as possible. It's OK to make mistakes in my studio. I would like you to bring a notebook to lessons as well as your music and instrument. I write as much as I can down because if you were like I was during lessons, I would forget everything I was supposed to be watching for after 3 days. Like I said above, we move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. Questions are a good thing. It shows interest. But sometimes you just have to stop asking questions and just take the leap of faith.
We start with note reading as well as proper form and the parts of the instrument. We also deal with general care. I will tune your instrument every time you come in for lessons until you learn how to tune it yourself. We will review the day before, I will check on what work you've done and then move onto the next song/ technique etc. After we learn how to pluck the first 8 notes, we start with scales and bowing.

After that we move through the "usual" routine. Scale, etude, song(s) or school test songs, audition requirements etc.

I try to keep the same routine because for some students it's easier for them to focus if they know the lesson is going to move in a familiar way. It's reassuring. After we become proficient in the basics, we move into whatever genre you would like to play, within reason. If you are in the school orchestra we will work towards you getting an A.

I would say I'm more laid back when you are not preparing for an audition. Auditions require a lot of work and I want you to do as close to perfect as possible. I become fairly demanding during that time.

In about 6 months, you can play almost any tune you can hear on the radio. Explaining where you could be gets fairly technical and I might as well be talking like Charlie Brown's teacher.

*** Studio Equipment ***
at the away studio: music, music stand, stool, piano, laptop, tuner, metronome.

at home: music, music stands, chairs, computer, laptop, keyboard, microphone, tuner, metronome.

pictures of the away studio are posted.

*** Specialties ***
I am familiar with Paul Rolland's work, Valerie Bobbett Gardner's Violin Virtuosity, as well as Guillespie's. I was brought up Suzuki but haven't been trained in Suzuki. I have taken classes on how to teach to a variety of students so I could hold a teaching license in the state. I do participate with (Canadian) The Royal Conservatory of Music Music Development. This is active in the US also.

Special note: If you are allergic to cats, you will want to take lessons at my other studio location, not at the home.

IF you are contacting me with questions, please include either take lessons or lessons in the subject area so I can find you faster. I get a lot of junk mail and it is easy for me to miss a note from you.

I was raised in the Suzuki method, trained in it, and I believe in it. It is the most effective school of education for new musicians who want to learn reliably. I've been teaching it 6 years.

I can talk to you for days about the method, but I will sum it up as quickly as i can.

1: Immersion
2: Daily Practice
3: Listening
4: Strong relationship between student, teacher and parent.

If the student listens everyday, practices everyday, practices what i tell them, and is made to love the music, you will learn. I've taught hundreds of students this way and when all the conditions are met, all my students have had success.

About Joshua
Joshua has been a musician for over twelve years and been a teacher for five. He is an award winning composer, critical thinker, and an honest teacher. Joshua has a high standards for his students and himself. Joshua has studied Suzuki method under Dr. Paula Bird for four years and has taught over 100 students. He performed his official Suzuki training under Dr. Laurie Scott. Joshua also teaches at the Texas State String Project under the direction of Dr. Ames Asbell and Dr. Karla Hamelin. He has done so since it's inception.

Joshua is an award winning composer and has composed over 80 pieces, ranging in style from classical symphony to electronic dance. He has also arranged hundreds of works for violin and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I have two critical expectations for my stud
ents.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher 6 days a week, I'm only get to teach them one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano lessons with full keyboard. Stands, couches, and a small library of sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki style instruction for violin technique. For songwriting and performance I focus on the analysis of music to find a middle ground of emotional expression and theory. Once that middle ground is found we explore what music means to the student, and how they can use it as a tool of expression.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

I teach violin from beginner to advanced, from basics, shifting, vibrato, music theory, technique, different bow stokes and styles to the most refine concepts of violin artistry.
I love to teach solo classical repertoire but also violin orchestral repertoire, chamber music repertoire, improvisation and Romanian folk music.
I also teach group ensembles, duos, trios, quartets, etc. I help students with their orchestral music and audition pieces. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.

About Adina
I am a professional violinist with the National Philharmonic Orchestra at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, Maryland. I also joined the Faculty of College of Southern Maryland (CSM) in 2013 where I teach Violin,Viola and Chamber Music Ensemble. I have been teaching violin with great results for more than 15 years and started my violin studio when I moved from Florida to Maryland in 2005.
Graduates of my studio have been admitted to prestigious conservatories such as Oberlin Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Rutgers Mason Gross School of Music and others and have won many competitions throughout the United States.
I have a deep love and appreciation for music and I enjoy teaching my student (from beginners to very advanced or adults). All levels are welcome! My studio is geared towards the motivated student seeking a well-rounde
d enjoyable, yet detailed, music education that focuses on both excellence and artistry.
Special emphasis is placed on building and maintaining a strong classical music base, which is the foundation for all other styles and techniques found in music. Additionally, students are exposed to learning concepts in ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, folk music and improvisation. This enables students to be exposed to other areas of music such as composing, arranging, conducting, etc., thereby giving each student the unique opportunity to branch out and explore endless opportunities.
All teaching is conducted in a supportive yet challenging environment. Each student is encouraged to think for themselves and develop their own judgment through the development of their ear and musical comprehension.
Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase my students talent and progress and encourage their love for music.
I also organize other activities for my students such as Master classes and Music mind games (for younger students). I have a group class "Building music and memory skills" designated for children age 4 to 6 (children learn basic concepts in music theory and ear training before starting playing an instrument).
I offer a half hour lesson for beginners, a 45 min. lesson for intermediate an an hour lesson for intermediate to advanced students. Above all, I strongly encourage enjoyment of music.
Music should be played from the heart with passion and excitement.

WHEN YOU START TAKING LESSONS YOU WILL NEED:
a violin with bow and strings in playing condition, rosin, a kun shoulder rest (the right size for your instrument) and a music stand - see chart bellow for the right size violin and bow or contact me for the best way to measure your child.

Have been teaching 17 years

About David
I grew up in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Cleveland, OH, and was classically trained on violin in all three cities by members of their respective orchestras. I began studying theory in 7th grade at The Alabama School of Fine Arts. I continued theory lessons while in Boston at the New England Conservatory of Music. I attended Summer music programs at Apple Hill (New Hampshire) and Sewanee (Tennessee) and have extensive experience in orchestra, quartet, and chamber group environments.

Upon graduating Emory university in 1992 I played professionally in Destin, FL as a bassist, guitarist, violinist, and vocalist. I performed as bassist and backing vocalist with "Salty Dog" for nearly a decade. I am the co-founder of the Destin, FL band "Beach Mice." We perform for several weddings, corporate events, and benefits every year. Beach
Mice is also popular on the festival circuit on the Emerald Coast.

I relocated to Atlanta in November of 2013, and currently perform weddings, and at various restaurants and events in the Atlanta area.

I have taught individuals and group lessons on violin, bass, and guitar since 1997 and for several consecutive years at Playground Music in Fort Walton Beach.

I have several videos available on YouTube, and a website which is easily located through a simple Google search.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you fulfill your musical goals and ambitions. Happy Playing - Cheers! dp

Students and parents can expect lessons to be held in a calm environment that will allow students to focus and learn. I do not teach using the Suzuki method but I do however, use the Suzuki performance books. Students will be expected to learn note recognition, rhythm, how to hold the violin and bow, and proper care of the instrument. I do not suggest this instrument for students under 6-7 due to fine motor skills not being as well developed. However, there is always an exception to the rule and I have taught a couple students ages 3-5. Please contact me with any questions or Sign Up For Lessons Now!

About Sara
For 15 years, I have been studying both piano and violin extensively. It is this love of music that led me to begin formally teaching four years ago. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach not only my own private students but also in a studio in Atlanta, GA and Buford, GA. I have had the privilege of teaching students as young as 3 to those as young-at-heart of 70. Whatever age I instruct, my lessons are formulated to fit the individual. Being able to meet my students on whatever level they need has always been a great joy.
Due to my intensive background of orchestral performances, I had the opportunity to instruct students on their orchestral pieces given to them by local orchestras and prepare them for any upcoming auditions.
As a musician, I have enjoyed the opportunities of accompanying local choirs, playing with
local and well-known orchestras, performing at weddings, and providing music at various functions.
Music has always been a passion of mine since I was a young child. My parents and instructors gave me every opportunity to cultivate that love. I am so grateful to have the same chance to do so with anyone who wants to learn. Please contact me with any questions you may have.

"Music Speaks What Cannot Be Expressed, Soothes the Mind and Gives it Rest, Heals the Heart and Makes it Whole, Flows From Heaven to the Soul" ~Unknown~

Want to know what to expect during lessons? Check out the information below.

Parents and Students should expect a fun yet educational atmosphere during their lesson time. During lessons students will learn about their instrument, note recognition, rhythm, and of course how to play a song. I ask that each student have individual practice time during the week as this is the only way to truly advance and learn the instrument. I also encourage parents to be available during the lesson and during the students individual practice session. This helps ensure that students are practicing correctly (and what they are supposed to) during the week.

She added violin when she turned 7 and continued with both throughout her childhood and into her adult life.. She has wonderful orchestral experience as well as sacred/religious music. Because of her love for music, she is thrilled to be able to open young children’s eyes and minds to the joys found in music.

I've been teaching violin for about 6 years and am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance at CU-Boulder. Having taught as a private teacher for younger students as well as a Teaching Assistant for a String Methods class in my undergrad, I am extremely comfortable working with a wide range of ages and skill levels. I teach classical and Suzuki style, as well as basic music theory, note-reading, and other skills based on the student's needs and skill set.

About Ava
A recent Master of Music graduate of University of Colorado Boulder, Ava began her violin studies at the age of six. During her undergraduate degree at Truman State University, Ava was a two-time Gold Medal Concerto Competition finalist and regularly appeared as concertmaster with the Truman State Symphony orchestra, where she has also held the positions of principal second violinist and principal violist.

As an active chamber musician, Ava was the first violinist in Truman State University’s President’s String Quartet, the university’s only highly competitive string chamber ensemble. She toured Italy twice with the President’s String Quartet, performing recitals in 2013 and 2015.

At CU, Ava has served as concert master and principal second violinist of the Eklund Opera Orchestra, as well as section violinist with the University o
f Colorado Symphony Orchestra. During the summer of 2016, she travelled to Italy as part of CU's "Renaissance in the XXI Century" program where she studied with Alberto Bologni and performed a wide variety of chamber music.

Ava is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder under Professor Harumi Rhodes. Her past teachers include Dr. Sam McClure, Julie Lundgren, and Kathy Karpicke.

It is important for me to teach the building blocks of music: scales, circle of fifths, and working with technique to make learning pieces easier. We will teach you about the parts of your instrument inside and out and even stretching methods to help keep you limber to prevent any injury. I teach not only classical music, but also jazz, rock, and contemporary. Keeping my students engaged and passionate about what they are learning is key.

About Sage
As a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, I attended the most prestigious contemporary music school in the world. I was exposed to so many amazing styles of music and rubbed shoulders with the most incredible musicians you can imagine (and performed alongside them)! I have taken my experiences and knowledge from Berklee and infused it into my teaching style. I do use Suzuki method because I believe it is an excellent foundation to work upon, but I also think that jazz and contemporary studies are a great way to expand one's horizon and learn about music in an entirely new and fun way!

The Doctor is in! I am the founder and owner of NOVA Music Academy in Winchester with a professional teaching studio and staff to teach every wind and string instrument. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance from Shenandoah University and I have taught children and university students for more than 10 years. Your child deserves the BEST music teacher. From experience I know teachers vary wildly in quality; with me, you are assured expert quality and professionalism that your child deserves.

Whether your child loves Mozart or Moana, is putting their instrument together for the first time, or getting ready for a big audition, I meet your child at their level and I take them to the stars!

About Julianna
Dear Student,

I am so excited you want to take music lessons! If you love music, we'll have a lot of fun learning together. My best memories are from playing with friends in band and orchestra. Playing the flute took me to college and to visit Europe, even to meet my best friend and my husband! I love to listen to and teach all kinds of music and can't wait to hear what your favorites are. I studied to be a classical flutist so I play a beautiful silver flute in the orchestra but my husband and I also love popular music. In our group, "Mr & Mrs Music" I play a hot pink flute and he plays an electric cello! We mix classical music, pop, and movie hits and have so much fun performing in our community. I can't wait to meet you and make music together!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for giving your child the gift of music! Even if th
ey don’t recognize it right away, they are so fortunate to have your support. As the founder and owner of NOVA Music Academy, I believe that children always win when parents and teachers unite to provide support. We hope that by inviting you into the NOVA Music Academy family, your unique child will find joy in learning music and grow to appreciate the deeply expressive power of art for a lifetime.

I can personally attest to the joy that music has brought my life, including full scholarships for a bachelors, master's and doctoral degree and I could never have done it without my amazing flute teachers. I'm looking forward to repaying their investment into the next generation of musicians, I sincerely hope your child is one of them! My website contains a full bio, resume, and recordings of my playing and testimonials from parents and students.
