I received my education at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Jazz Guitar. I've studied with some of the best guitarists in the Midwest, and have performed live and in recording studios all across the country in a variety of styles (Rock, Metal, Bluegrass, Jazz, Classical, Country). Jordan was very helpful right from the start. He listened to me on where I am at and where I want to be. He showed me a few things that we will work towards and then helped me understand my instrument much better. Gave me some fun new things to practice before the next lesson. If you're looking for a lesson that is interactive and fun I recommend Jordan and the online thing is supper easy and handy. I don't think it could have gone any better. The lesson was 45 minutes and it felt like 10.

I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

Learning guitar should be interesting and fun! While we're studying all the different aspects of the instrument, you'll also be learning how to play your favorite songs and solos! I approach each student as an individual and structure their lessons according to what I determine they need, as well as what they are interested in musically. I concentrate on many different areas; ear training, theory, playing technique, improvisation, various styles of music, and, the physics of the guitar. Understanding how the instrument works is important in my opinion. My long term goal is to teach a student how they can teach themselves down the line. Understanding why you’re playing something is just important as knowing how to play it. I aim to give a student rich and well rounded one-on-one time!

GENERAL BIOGRAPHY:

I h
ave been teaching and performing for over a decade both in the US, and in England. I have played in various bands and have produced independent artists. I have worked for a recording studio and for various academic institutions including the Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School in New York city.

I obtained my degree from Purchase College in New York and am a member of their Conservatory of Music.

I construct lessons for each individual student depending on their musical tastes, goals, and current skill level etc. I want each person to get as much from their time studying with me as possible. Within three to six months, I'll have you working on timing, theory, ear training, improv, and songs/styles of music you may be interested in. I'm laid back, however, I expect at least the minimum practice time between lessons, which I'll change throughout the course of our time together depending on your skill level etc. Practice materials I draw up are included. I write out everything in plain English and do not require the use of sheet music!

A solid teacher with a lot of experience

Cameron is great at tailoring the lessons to my musical taste without compromising the theory, basics and fundamentals.
I have been taking lessons for one year and will not go elsewhere anytime soon. His vast musical knowledge helps merge the theory with concrete examples. No question remains unanswered.

Very knowledgeable, very patient, and puts in time outside our lessons to be prepared to teach or play new material that I am interested in. I always look forward to my lessons. I am a 2008 graduate of the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. While at North Texas I taught trumpet lessons in the Denton area. I have also taught piano, clarinet, and saxophone as well as all the other brass instruments. I have performed with the UNT Concert Band, the UNT Brass Band, the UNT Nine O'Clock Lab Band, the Collin County Jazz Band, and the San Jose Metropolitan Band.

Currently, I teach clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and piano in the DFW area. I also play trumpet in the both the Frisco Community Band and the Frisco Community Brass Ensemble.

Tammye has been my daughters piano teacher going on five years now. She is laid back and my daughter has always enjoyed playing the piano. She has never dreaded lesson or asked to not play. I've heard of some kids crying after lessons and this has never ever been the case with Tamye. My daughter started out loving lessons with Tamye and still does... she is in middle school now. She has never felt pressured. She has always come away from the lessons having learned something new and now plays beautifully. This year my five year old boy has started lessons with Ms. Tammye and he also is enjoying them. Tamye has been the perfect teacher for our family. We took a summer break to try out a local music school (same price and we had to drive there) and it didn't compare to the quality we get with Ms. Tammye. As long as our kids are playing piano they'll be having Ms. Tammye as their teacher.

This "teacher" doesn't know anything about music, let alone playing the trumpet, or any instrument. Complete HACK with zero skills who shouldn't even be charging $15 an hour!!! Also, she was extremely rude in all correspondence with me. I'm beyond thankful that I didn't have to smell her likely putrid, unwashed, unkempt stench through the webcam or in person. Stay FAR away.

In my opinion, the way music theory is commonly taught makes the subject miserable and difficult. Over many years I've developed a method of breaking it down into user friendly and bite size pieces, that can begin to be applied right away. Indigo is an amazing teacher. While she is a professional musician with a deep understanding of music theory, I am an intermediate guitar player and don’t spend much time on theory - i mostly want to work on playing songs and singing, and she jumps right into what i am working on with enthusiasm and an open mind. She is good at explaining things and she is also always smiling and super nice. Can’t say enough good things.

Indigo is a fabulous and diverse teacher! I've been taking lessons with her for about 9 months. Although my lessons are "officially" for songwriting, we divide our time among that, guitar technique, and music theory. Outside of teaching percussion and musical performances I have worked in special education for over 15 years.

My life of music started knee high at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. At the age of 15 I gave my first musical performance, from that stage on I knew my talent had found a home.

In the 11th grade I toured with a local funk group in Washington DC through 26 cities learning music and the life of travel at an early age. During my last high school and college years I performed extensively playing classical, jazz, rock, funk, go-go, gospel, marching band, R&B, and with local rap artist.

Recording credits and highlights include work with Def Jam artist Steady Eddy, recording go-go Mario with Double Agent Rock, and recordings with Little Benny and the Masters.

My other musical passion is teaching. Throughout my col
lege years and beyond I served as a percussion instructor and assistant band director at Morgan State University. As part of the Morgan State University Magnificent Marching Machine I served as a instructional leader in music and performance mentor for the team. I taught part time as a percussion instructor at Milford Mill High School giving individual lessons for over 10 years.

Musical inspiration is an important element to the refinement of my craft. A few personal musical influences are Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Neil Peart (Rush), Dennis Chambers, (Santana), George Gray (Roberta Flack), Ricky Wellman (Miles Davis), Quinton Mack-Davis (Rare Essence) and Michael Bland (Prince).

Our son has never played in a marching band before but is interested in playing in the marching band when he attends college in July so we were specifically looking for an instructor who had marching band experience to teach our son since he's never participated in the marching band in high school. We saw Mr. Stewart's profile and decided to have him work with our son. That was the BEST decision that we could have ever made. We have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Stewart. He definitely has the gift of teaching and he is very patient, knowledgeable, and he challenges our son to get better by giving him homework after each session. Our son absolutely LOVES Mr. Stewart and he is always excited for each lesson and to practice what Mr. Stewart has taught him. Our son went from not playing in the marching band at all in high school to making his college band and receiving a scholarship all thanks to Mr. Stewart. We are very grateful for his outstanding teaching and we would definitely recommend Mr. Stewart 100%.

Charles is calm and patient, and yet gently pushes for better and better performance every lesson. As the parent, it is amazing to me to see how much my son has learned in only 3 lessons... and working on a drum set right from the beginning has been very inspiring to my son. We highly recommend Charles!

A beginner may know what a quarter note is, or how to find the treble F_A_C_E, but that doesn't really count much. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Music Theory lessons help you understand the math of how scales and chords work, and why Middle C is NOT the middle of the piano. If you already know what a French sixth chord is, look for a more advanced theory teacher.

If you want to learn how to play chords by ear on the piano but you don't have an acceptable keyboard, take Music Theory.

How should an adult begin private music lessons? First, decide why you want to spend the money, and what you expect to get for your money. Second, plan how you will manage practicing time and location. Third, find a teacher who is experienced and supporting enough to adjust goals to fit your aspirations and purposes without diluting the minimum standards of traditional artistic education. If you're lucky, you'll find one that keeps prices low and schedules flexible.

Armed with a Coe College Bachelor of Music and a Performance Certificate in Vocal Performance from 1981, I (Miss Melodie F.) chose to work in Cos
ta Rica 1982-1984 before calling Chicago home in 1986. My performances have usually been of scored acoustic vocal and choral soprano in mainly traditional formats. I teach private lessons in classical vocal technique from a body awareness perspective, how to sight-read keyboard scores, and music theory translated into something that makes sense.

Consider private singing and voice, music theory, or piano lessons with me. You should sign up for music theory lessons unless you either want to do the physical work it takes to be a better singer, or if you own a "real" piano. Music theory lessons are the most flexible option for general curiosity. The amount of time you should set aside for practicing is an individual estimate. Music Theory assignments should take maybe 45min 3 days a week to accomplish well, but singing or piano should be practiced a minimum of 30-60min 4 or 5 days a week.

Approaching vocal technique from a physical perspective allows us to discover the student's unique and true voice. Reading paper piano music at first sight means you can play it without knowing the song. Music theory is essential to understanding how and why the art works the way it does. Most students need help ditching the confusing silliness they've already been exposed to, and putting together the pieces of the numbers puzzle we call melody, harmony, and rhythm.

Why sing or play piano? Do you want improved balance, posture, relaxation, abdominal strength, confidence, cultural awareness, emotional expression, memory support, and stress relief? You'd be surprised how many people take lessons just to feel better. I can't guarantee you'll have the same results, but I promise you'll know if you want to pay me more money or not after about five lessons.

Label me Traditional, or Classical, or even Persnickety, but we all transcend labels. I can perform opera, simplify unifying concepts, teach folk singing, direct a church choir, suggest country repertoire, coach performance charisma, and even officiate a marriage ceremony as a Dudeist Priest. I also bake a mean pie.

Complete beginners are welcome in all areas. Advanced lessons are available for voice only. In my studio I teach adults only. Singing and voice lessons have minimum 45min duration. Prices for lessons at my studio are $30 for 30min, $41 for 45min, and $50 for 60min. Online lessons, available for singing and theory but not piano, are the same price. Schedule-As-You-Go lessons with no recurring schedule slot are an option, if you prefer that to taking a lesson the same time every single week.

My teaching studio is a residential office on a high second floor walk-up near the intersection of Chicago and Ashland. I might be able to travel within East Village / Ukrainian Village / Wicker Park / Noble Square for an additional $15 travel fee. If I travel to your location, we can negotiate younger ages and group fees.

What do you want to learn? As partners, the student and I build a plan, balancing current aspirations with proven methods. I work with the paper music and workbooks you already own, and TAILOR THE LESSONS TOWARD PRACTICAL VALUE. On the other hand, I believe I have an ethical responsibility to provide a minimum of classical instruction.

Upfront deal breakers:
• Communication outside of lesson time will be mainly internet and email. The email address in your profile must be a valid form of official business communication.
• Students may not bring pets, children, or guests to the lesson. A quietly observing adult guest is welcome with 48-hour notice.
• My students know if they use too much fragrance, whether it be laundry scent boosters or hair treatments, they may be refused entrance into my studio. It's a big deal.
• You pay for any lessons not canceled or rescheduled before the 24-hour deadline, whether you attend or not. Do not be near me when you are contagiously ill. Ask me to forgive late cancellations caused by true emergencies, but realize I don’t have to.
• If you are a singing student, you need a place where you can practice. Prior to your first cancellation deadline, you must read the "Your First Singing Lesson" section found on each Singing or Voice Subject Page.
• If you want to learn how to read keyboard scores or understand how to play keyboard by ear, sign up for Music Theory. If you don’t have regular access to something that can legally be called a piano, including weighted keys and a damper pedal, sign up for Music Theory. Repeat: if you can’t practice on a real piano, don’t take Piano lessons. Music Theory lessons will probably teach you what you want to learn, anyway.

So far I've only had one lesson with Melodie and she really cares to help you achieve what you're trying to accomplish. We went through a few things such as posture, how to breathe, humming, vowels, position of tongue and other things. About myself: I don't know how to sing and this is my first singing lesson.

My lessons with Melodie have been great! She is extremely knowledgeable. I'm a new piano player, and she has been very patient with me as we work our way through the basics. She is great at explaining the theory side in a way I can understand. And the out of class work she suggests not only drives home what we worked on in the lesson, but it also has me playing some basic songs...which is encouraging and keeps practice fun!

I have found that many people have been confused before my music theory books and lessons. I have had great luck using my approaches in making learning music theory fun and accessible. I also find that it is very helpful to not bite off everything at once. We learn the music theory that we can use and apply it taking it out of the just theoretical to actually have fun playing with it.

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away fro
m sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.

Tara is a wonderful teacher. She made me feel comfortable about my short fingers even before we met for my first guitar lesson. My name is Olivier Huebscher. I am a horn player who received my MM in Horn Performance from Indiana University and am currently working on my DM. I was born in Switzerland in 1989, and have performed in wide variety of cultures and venues, from television soundtrack recording in Thailand, to full opera productions. Currently finishing my Doctorate at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, I am equally comfortable performing in studio recordings, opera pits or symphonic stages. In addition to being a member of Santa Monica Symphony, American Youth Symphony, Columbus Philharmonic and Redlands Symphony, I am a dedicated chamber musician, performing with Volante Winds as well as recording Mahler’s Symphony No 9 with the Kammermahler ensemble.
I have performed with American Youth Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra and Columbus
Philharmonic as well as being a finalist for Macau Symphony and semi-finalist for New World Symphony. I have also performed in sections with Dale Clevenger, Jeff Nelsen and Elizabeth Freimuth.
