Most modern genres of music can be taught; rock, metal, blues, alternative, etc., as well as classical. We will using tabs and conventional music sheets. Music theory will be integrated into the lessons as needed.

For beginning guitarist, I begin by familiarizing the student with the instrument, and some very basic theory and tuning. We then move on to simple patterns to get those calluses on those finger tips. Then we start with chord charts and strumming rhythms. Followed by the fun stuff, which is actually playing a song. I am very open to my student's tastes and encourage them to bring in songs they would like to learn, because I when someone is familiar with a particular song, it can be almost as if your fingers naturally know what to do. I can teach both electric, classical acoustic, and steel acoustic guitars. For students who are further along, I like to assess their particular level first, and go on from there.

About Fabio
Fabio is an accomplished and experienced musician. Beginning with percussion at the age of 9, he has over 15 years rocking out behind the kit. He has played in many local bands and as well as some internationally. He is sought after for his wide variety of styles: Classic rock, Modern Rock, Alternative, Punk, Metal, Blues, Funk, and Latin. He is currently working on a Hard Rock project whom are finishing up some demos before they start gigging around the area.
Aside from drumming, Fabio has also been trained in classical and electric guitar, as well as Music theory, which he acquired while obtaining a BS Mechanical Eng/ and Acoustics.

I believe it is important for a student to feel he/she is in a comfortable environment, which is why I tailor each lesson based on the student. I take into account not only n
atural talent and level of experience, but also progression and devotion. Whether the student is an adult looking to start a new and fun hobby, or a child with major aspirations to be come one of the greats, I can make sure either one gets the necessary instruction at a comfortable pace. Se Habla Español!

For beginning drummers, I like to start with fundamentals and light theory, and certain physical exercises (which help make the limbs independent of each other). I also like to get the student to familiarize themselves with the instrument. I start of with easy rhythms on a drum pad (usually from a beginners percussion book), and slowly work up to working with a high-hat, snare, bass drum configuration. Once you're ready for the fun stuff, we can start incorporating easy songs you've always wanted to play, and then start moving the difficulty level up and up. All in all I try to combine the fun that comes with playing along to the songs you love, with a strong foundation of fundamentals and theory which will help you progress faster but with ease. For students that have already had some experience either percussive or behind the kit, we can assess your level of experience and move from there.

Fabio is a great teacher. I am learning music concepts as well as to play the guitar chords, riffs, for a huge variety of classic and newer rock songs. He is flexible and open to my requests or to go over areas that I need repeating. You will really enjoy being taught by Fabio. BTW he has a different hair cut now.

I love teaching music! I have been a professional guitar instructor for over 8 years. Through attentive one on one instruction I develop a program to suit the player's goals. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, chord progressions, rhythm training, and ear training. I can guide a complete beginner toward being able to play songs and have fun. For the more serious student I have a plan that will make you a better player and musician guaranteed.

About Benjamin
I discovered music sifting through my Dad's record collection and soon decided that I wanted to play guitar. As a teenager I began taking lessons and building confidence in my abilities. I played in different types of bands ranging from rock, country, blues, and jazz. After completing College in 2004, I realized music was not just going to be a hobby, but a career. At age 37, I have been teaching and playing guitar professionally for the last 13 years. I believe that anybody can learn to play as long as they are patient and understand that anything worthwhile takes time and sustained effort to achieve. You also need a good teacher who understands how to take you where you want to go musically. I have taught hundreds of different students of all ages and abilities. I have seen many of them grow musically and gain confidence in other
areas of their lives as a result. I aim to inspire every student to find their way to a rewarding life through music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plans are developed on an individual basis. I want you to learn the music that inspires your passion. If the guitar is new to you, the first lessons are devoted to basic playing skills and techniques. It is important to develop a strong understanding of music fundamentals to ensure that the student is attaining the skills they need to be a complete musician. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, rhythm training, and ear training. I have had success with many students using this approach and most are playing songs within a couple months. For the more serious student, music theory is an important tool to understand songwriting and music in general. I am always open to discuss what we do during a lesson. I believe it is my job to balance what you want to do with what you need to do in order to succeed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have amps, guitars, 1/4 inch cables, tuners, metronomes, paper and pens.
Would like students to have all these things but can accommodate based on need.

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Pop, Blues, Country, flat-picking, finger-style

I must say that Benjamin was great. I come from no musical background and had zero knowledge. Benjamin made me feel relaxed and broke down the sessions in an easy way so that I could understand the concept of what we were trying to accomplish. Learn the songs you love either through playing by ear with music theory or learning to sight read on electric, acoustic, and classical guitar

About Aleksis
My name is Aleksis B., but many of my students know me as Mr. B. I am a professional instructor and performing musician who combines a love of music with a desire to help others who want to achieve their highest musical potential. I try to make that passion show in everything I do.

My education includes classical voice training with Michele Howard Hansen, an opera singer that often performs at the Kennedy Center. I studied piano with Geoffrey Chappell, who writes for Jazz Times. I also received compositional training on multiple instruments from Stanley Cowell, who recorded and performed with legends like Miles Davis.

I have been performing professionally since 1992. I studied education in college and did my student teaching in a music class at Goshen Elementary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

I have been teaching music pr
ofessionally now for over twenty years. Some students want to take a few lessons to see if it is something they will enjoy, others have worked with me for over a decade. I have mentored several students who have gone on to professional careers. I have experienced a lot of success teaching young children and those with special needs. I have been blessed with a tremendous amount of patience and truly enjoy teaching anyone who wants to learn.

Whatever your goals or abilities, I look forward to working with you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Experience fun based lessons as my teaching approach is relaxed and inspirational. I enjoy working with all ages, adjusting my teaching methods to accommodate your learning style and abilities. Learn to play the music you love! You learn best when you enjoy what you are playing, I can help you play along with your favorites or even write your own songs. I always ask my students at the beginning of a lesson "What would you like to do today?" Then structure the lesson accordingly into a routine that the student can practice on their own. Generally the time is divided into warm ups, learning new material, then picking a fun song the student choses. Whether your interest is Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop music, etc... I'm here help you reach your goals so let's make your dreams come true with music together!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Books, Guitar, music stand, metronome, picks, tuner, page clips, capo, media player, laptop, Keyboard (on request), and recording equipment (on request)

*** Specialties ***
With Voice I specialize in helping people prepare for auditions such as American Idol. I have students who simply want to be karaoke stars. I have several professional singers that hire me as a voice coach and producer for recording sessions. I have taught children as young as 2 and those that retired with a lifelong dream to sing. Though my training is classical, I can teach Jazz, Pop, Rock, Rap, R&B, etc...whatever is fun for the student. I highly recommend learning to read music but I do not push it unless parents want their child to.

With Piano I can teach traditionally from Alfred and Bastien Piano Courses depending if they are auditory or visual learners. For Kinesthetic learners I use Hanon scale exercises and Rothman Rhythm Exercises. For those that want to learn notation I introduce classical and Jazz composers unless there is a popular artist/band/movie theme etc...that they would like to learn. However I do not push students to read music unless their parents would prefer it. I tend to keep more students that want to learn to play by ear especially adults by using rhythm training and music theory exercises and then applying them to songs they love. For piano I haven't had much success with children younger than 3. I also have a lot experience working with special needs children.

For Guitar I teach Classical, Acoustic, and Electric all styles and genres. I encourage sight reading but don't mind using tabs. I use more exercises with these students, since the first month students have a hard time making a sound. I try to make the lessons fun by having students strum chords along with songs they chose. I teach lead and rhythm even songwriting and composition. Job satisfaction for me is seeing my students leave a lesson with a smile on their face so I make sure to be a fun based teacher that doesn't give the student a hard time about not practicing.

For Recording and Performance I use the knowledge I gained doing Pro Audio Sales for Guitar Center from 2000-2002 to help clients build their own home studio. I have lots of producers and engineers I work with on a regular basis to produce broadcast quality audio and video recordings and help my students use their lessons and pre-production for those opportunities. I can teach Garage Band or Pro Tools classes on navigating the software and utilizing all the commands. I can also teach room acoustics and using the right microphone and how to position them with the right equipment and the right acoustics to get the best possible tone that they are looking for. I can also teach editing, mixing, looping, sampling, midi, and mastering so that the student can eventually work on their own writing, performing, and recording their music.

I can cover any genres a student might want to learn as well as different techniques including classical, fingerpicking style, lead, etc.

About Nathan
I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

Specializing in a comprehensive approach to music which includes instrumental technique, music theory, rhythm and aural skills, music history and appreciation, music performance and songwriting in order to build a solid foundation in musicianship. Pop, Rock, Country and Folk genres.

About Lena
GUITAR CURRICULUM (VOCAL INSTRUCTION CURRICULUM SEE BELOW):
You like music. I like music. You want to learn how to play guitar. I can teach you how to play guitar, and so much more. It's that simple. I have real-world experience in getting out there and playing guitar in a band, in front of a real crowd, and I can teach you how to do the same. Whether you're interested in performing in front of your relatives, at your local open mic down the street, or if you want to pursue music as a possible profession, you need strong, basic fundamentals to get there. That's where I come in.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons include: guitar technique/knowledge/maintenance:
-Getting to know your instrument, such as the name for parts of the guitar, and what they contribute to the instrument. How to identify notes on each string and in every
fret across the fretboard. First, you need to learn how to speak guitar. This is like learning the basic language so we can communicate with each other.
You: "Why do I have to identify all the parts of the guitar?"
Me: "So when I tell you to strum over the sound hole, you won't mistake it for your ear."

-How to tune and care for your guitar such as changing strings
You: "Why do I need to learn how to tune my guitar and properly change my strings?"
Me: "So when you learn how to play the thing, it sounds good and stays in tune, and your neighbor's dog won't start howling when you pick up your instrument."

-Chords and Strumming: Open chords, Power chords, Barre chords, 7th chords, 9th chords, 1st and 2nd inversion chords. More chords than you can shake a stick at.
You: "Why do I need to learn chords?"
Me: "So you string chords together, and play a song, Silly."

-Scales (Major scales, Natural minor scales, Harmonic minor scales, Melodic minor scales, In every key and in six different positions)
You: "Why do I need to learn scales?"
Me: "Just to torture you. Just kidding! Scales build strength and speed and get your two hands working together. And scales are fundamental for learning licks and writing melodies later on down the road."

-Other fundamentals include chord chart reading, tablature reading, and specific technical skills such as hammer-ons and pull-offs, palm muting, using a pick, and finger picking styles.

MUSIC THEORY:
Strictly for impressing your friends and/or classmates. Ok, not really. Music theory is important, especially if you want to play other instruments down the road, and to give you a the "Big Picture" of music.

Fundamental theory you will learn includes
-Basic music notation (The music alphabet, rhythm, the staff, ledger lines, time signatures, etc)
-Major and Minor Scales and Key Signatures (You've heard about the Circle of Fifths. Now you'll be able to decipher it!)
-How to identify and play intervals (Major, Minor, Perfect)
-Chord theory (What makes a Major chord, well, Major; Minor chord, Minor. Diminished, Augmented, etc)
-Harmonic Analysis
You: "I've heard about this I IV V I progression stuff. What does that mean?"
Me: "In due time, Grasshopper"
-Transposition (Good for changing the keys of your favorite songs so you or your lead singer can sing them in his/her vocal range)

First we learn this stuff through take-home worksheets. Then, we apply what we know to the guitar and make it useful and practical.

Music history and appreciation. Ever wonder about the origins of the guitar and how it came about to be one of the most popular instruments played in modern time? Or who the great Blues guitarists were from the 30's and 40's and how they influenced later day Rockers such as Jimmy Page or Keith Richards? Or how about how modern Western music formed and is what it is today, starting with Ancient Greece, through the Middle Ages, to Beethoven, to Ragtime to popular music today? Yep, we got that covered. It's all about perspective.

Songwriting. So you're tired of playing other people's songs and it's time to get your thoughts on paper. Congratulations. You are officially an Artist as well as a Musician. I can teach you how to develop your lyrics and chord progressions into cohesive, tightly arranged songs sure to make your Mom or Girlfriend/Boyfriend proud. Songwriting expands the limits of learning, that simply copying another artist note-for-note cannot do. Tapping your "Creative Vein" is the ultimate path to learning music. Let's get started.

music performance. Alright, you got knowledge, you got skills, you got songs. You have the tools to get out there and show the world what you can do.

SONGWRITING
If you've grown tired of playing other people's music, then it’s time for you to get your songs on paper or recorded. I’ll teach you how to develop your lyrics and chord progressions into cohesive, tightly arranged songs. Songwriting expands the limits of learning that merely playing another artist’s music cannot do. Tapping your "creative vein" is the ultimate path to learning music.

But before you hit the local area open mic or book a gig, let's talk about music performance. You’ll learn simple, effective techniques such as strong stage presence and audience rapport.

The most important thing to me is to keep the student interested and engaged in the lessons. This way learning guitar is easy and fun, not a struggle. A great place to start is by learning songs you enjoy listening to. Then later moving on, applying theory and scales to the songs we have learned.

About Sam
Hi!
I'm a recent graduate of Berklee College of music where I majored in professional music. This included music theory and guitar instruction, as well as reading and writing music notation and charts in different styles. I also play frequently around the DC area, including shows at The 9:30 Club, The Howard Theater, Shamrockfest, The Black Cat, Half Street Fairgrounds. and Gaylord National resort.
For the past three years I have been teaching guitar lessons to student of all ages, with excellent results! I always keep the students interested by teaching songs they are excited to learn, while also making sure that they continue to grow as a guitarist and musicians. Lessons can be in Rock, Jazz, or Pop styles, and on acoustic or electric guitar. Music theory is included to the extent that the student and/or parents are interested. Lesson
s can be at my house or yours.
Thanks!

In my 7 year musical career, I have become a skilled sheet music reader, song interpreter, and can play in key well with other musicians.

These three components of musicianship are essential for the growth of anybody starting out. Becoming comfortable in these areas will inspire students to continue growing their musical capabilities.

My prices are lower than what you may find in the area because while I am very good at music and have 7 solid years of diverse experience, I feel I can provide the most benefit in the beginning stages of the students learning path, so cheap prices my make up for a lack of schooling or professional training; but I have given many lessons before and my students have all been very successful!

Being taught by me includes sight reading basics first and then moving onto playing popular songs and playing in key. I am very comfortable teaching any age.

I am a young professional myself and would be eager to teach you or your family member!

About Jake
I've been playing guitar and piano for 7 years, during this time I've played with local bands and even manage one! The DC music scene is thriving and unique and I'd love to do my part inspiring and teaching people eager to play.

I also love to ski!

Smile and have fun with it !

I love teaching guitar. And each student is unique.

My approach is to gear my teaching methods to the individual learning style of the student.

You need someone who responds to you and interacts with you as a unique learner. This makes learning fun and effective for you.

About Michele
Guitar haa been a love of mine since I was 14, when I first saw someone entertaining people at a party.

I began lessons for myself, at the age of 16. First I learned the basics and rock style music, and then I played and sang in some local Baltimore garage bands and in talent shows.

I went on to major in music in college, at Towson State University, with classical guitar as my concentration.

I began playing out professionally in my 20's, includings bars and restaurants like the Westminster Inn and at Fells Point, festivals like the Owings Mills Festival, weddings and parties.

I love teaching guitar and seeing the student's eyes light up, when things click together to get that favorite riff or favorite song right !

I have 25 + years of teaching experience.
I have taught over 100 students, including teens, adults, pre-
teens, and special needs adults and children.

15 Struggles Only Left-Handed Guitarists Understand
Left-handed guitarists of the world unite! When it comes to guitar setup and style, you're kind of in your own world... 1. Some people try to change you... ...but you do your own, awesome, left-handed thing! How to Strum a Guitar: A Beginner's First Lesson
Yearning to learn to strum a tune? Guitar teacher Kirk R. shares a perfect first lesson in strumming a guitar... Most of the songs that my guitar students want to learn consist largely, if not completely, of strummed chords. It’s also common that I se
