I've been taking lessons from Mr.Connors for quite a while now, and I must say that he is the greatest guitar teacher I have ever had. A year ago, before I met Mr.Connors, I used to be a the worst guitar player ever. I used to spend hours over hours in front of the computer screen trying to learn a song or some music theory, but I never seemed to get any better. I still continued to try, though, because I had a particular interest towards the instrument, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that i wasn't going in the right direction and that I needed someone to guide me. Mr.Connors was just the person I was looking for. He identified my skill level immediately and steered me in the right direction. Each song I was taught had a unique skill that I needed to master to make it through to the end. This made me realise the importance of the subtleties involved in playing guitar.

I just recently dived into music theory and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of theory that I have to learn, but Mr.Connors knows how to light my spirits up. Watching him play, I realise that I can take my guitar to the next level with just a little more effort. This motivates me to spend more time on the instrument, and I got to say I have never been more interested in the guitar than I am right now.

Overall Mr.Connors is nice, polite, patient, funny, and an exemplary guitar player and teacher (If that wasn't obvious already). Looking back I realise I've come a long way from a year ago, and I have Mr.Connors to thank for everything. I know I'm going to keep learning from him as long as i still want to get better.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Andrew for some time now, and I must say that he is by far the best teacher I've ever had. He never rushes you out and he genuinely cares about your musical development. I started taking lessons from Andrew to prepare for my music auditions for college. He put much effort into teaching me all that I know about ear training, music theory, improvisation, and my technique as a guitarist. I accredit Andrew in playing a fundamental role in my acceptance into Berklee College of Music. Not only has he helped me get accepted into Berklee, but within a short time of taking lessons with Andrew, I soon had the ability to play songs that once were beyond my skill level. I never imagined that I would be able to replicate Toni Iommi's riffs and John Mayer's finger-picking patterns, but Andrew knew how to solve the problems in my playing that I was struggling with. I honestly never thought I would get past those problems. He knows how to teach you in a way that makes an intimidating lick, not so difficult to play after all. He also teaches you HOW to practice to perfect your technique, which improved my playing dramatically.
All in all, I feel so blessed to have found Andrew and been a student of his. He's not only a fantastic musician, but overall he's an amazing person - friendly, caring, funny, down-to-earth, encouraging, patient, and honest. I consider Andrew not only my guitar teacher, but a mentor and trusted friend. Going to lessons is something I look forward to every week. I cannot thank him enough for playing such a big role in my musical journey and impacting my life in such a great way. You rock, Andrew <3

Students will learn how to read music in standard notation. Depending on the style(s) of music the student is most interested in we will either work on developing a classical style technique or spend our time working on more popular styles of music.

About LeeLee
While I teach many styles of music, I emphasize foundations in classical technique and encourage all of my students to have a basic understanding of musical principles in order to strengthen their playing and comprehension of the music. I received my Bachelors and Masters of Music in Guitar Performance from the Peabody Conservatory and currently am working on my Doctorate at the University of Arizona; I also teach and perform throughout the Tucson area. All of my students are encouraged to participate in recitals and performances while they are taking lessons. I believe that sharing your musical talents is an important part of learning an instrument.

I started taking ukulele lessons with LeeLee as an adult. She was very encouraging, professional, and flexible. She focused on the basic musical elements, always explaining concepts. She was willing to explore the types of songs I wanted to learn to play. She made taking lessons again very fun. I would highly recommend her as a teacher.

I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.
For those who wish to combine subjects, I also have a 90 minute lesson option. The more time you spend, the less you pay per minute. I have adult students who spend as much as two hours at a time with me.

About Phil
I've taught both privately and in the classroom (in schools from Pre-K to college, and through workshops), and have been a working musician and teacher for more than 25 years. I have a degree in music from Columbia College Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). My students have included everyone from absolute beginners to working professionals like myself. Many of my students have gone on to careers in music as performers, songwriters and/or teachers.

My approach in private instruction involves tailoring the lessons to the specific needs of each student, while making sure that he/she has the knowledge and technique to succeed in their creative endeavors. Whether it's a hobby or a potential career, I leave nothing out. You will learn the entire instrument. In cases where a student works in more than one subject, one session can typically be applied
to all/both of them. I strive to help every student find their own creative voice, while building the skill sets required to work in any style of music.

I also offer group lessons for 3 or more students. For friends at similar skill levels, this can offer a fun and more affordable way to learn a subject. It also serves as an additional motivator as the students in the group feed off of each other for ideas and inspiration.

Please feel free to contact me with the "Ask Phil a Question" button on my profile here. This can include questions about my method, or regarding days and times for lessons. What you see in my availability here is based on my schedule away from TakeLessons. I have students elsewhere and perform shows regularly. I may have additional times available and tend to have some flexibility. I teach worldwide online. Just ask.

As soon as you're ready to book lessons, you can use the Green Button after selecting your area of study, day and time. I will receive a notification that you've signed up. I will then confirm with you and send a questionnaire regarding your lesson needs within 48 hours.

Thanks for your interest.

I look forward to working with you!

Brian immediately knew how to adapt to my profile.... not too young, not too talented, not too available, and without any ambition about playing on stage or in a group. I've been learning bass guitar for one month and a half with him, starting at a beginner's level. Last week-end I was able to play a few songs more or less correctly with some friends at a party. Brian has the talent to keep the fun while teaching, and bringing appreciable progress in a very pleasant path.

My son, age 10, was a beginner when he started with Brian a little more than a year ago. Not only is Brian an experienced, expert guitar player, he's also an exceptionally patient teacher who adapts his lessons to the skill level and tastes of the student. Brian makes guitar lessons fun and knows how to motivate my son to continue practicing outside of lessons.

My son started out learning guitar and recently has taken up the bass, too! He's been learning songs I like with dominant bass patterns such as Pump it Up by Elvis Costello, Get Ready by The Temptations, the theme song from The Barney Miller show (1970s) and, most recently, Sunshine of Your Love by Cream.

My son really looks forward to his weekly lesson and has a great rapport with Brian. My son learns the basics using Brian's guitar instruction book, learning how to play blues and rock standards while mixing in the alternative rocks songs he plays and performs with his band.

Brian has been invaluable in teaching my son the skills required to perform live in front of an audience, reviewing performances and providing advice on how to optimize live sound production. Brian provided great notes about the stage set up for my son's band's performance at the school talent show. In less than a year, my son went from just picking up the instrument to playing on stage in front of a large audience and holding his own with a band of more experienced musicians. Brian was a huge help in making this happen!

I have been an internationally touring guitarist for over ten years. In that time, I've played well over 1,000 shows and bring this experience to my students. I play most styles, both acoustic and electric, but have a particular focus on finger-style guitar. I am a very personalized teacher. I approach students as individuals and craft my lesson plans based on what excites them about music.

About Zak
I graduated with a BS in music from Skidmore College in 2002 and have been making my living as a professional musician ever since by touring internationally as a performer, making studio records, composing for film and television, and teaching. I am primarily a guitar player and a songwriter. I grew up playing drums and studied them well into college. I'm deeply influenced by the blues and country music, but I love anything that's good! I studied jazz and composition in school with a focus on improvisation. I wouldn't be half the musician I am today without the help of a few wonderful teachers. I think of them when I teach and do my best to inspire my students with the same joy and support that was offered to me.
