About Kristin
Hello!

I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and
my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.

I am excited and thrilled by the opportunity to work with you!

My first piano lesson turned out to be so much more than I could have ever expected. My teacher, Kristin is so engaged in the lesson and so very well prepared. We covered so much in such a short time. She made every minute both fun and informative while providing a very friendly environment in her studio. I feel very fortunate to have found such a really competent music teacher.

About Gabriela
Gabriela Martina is a composer, arranger, and bandleader. Released in 2016 with a four-star review from DownBeat, her newest album, No White Shoes, represents a major step in the singer’s sojourn as a 21st-century musician. Martina had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with heavyweights like Meshell Ndegeocello, Jack DeJohnette, and Angelique Kidjo. She recorded with veteran drummer J.R. Robinson and was a semi-finalist in the Shure Voice Competition at the 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival, performing with guitarist Lee Ritenour’s band. Martina released a critically hailed EP in 2010, Curiosity, which included her original song “Ain’t Nobody,” a finalist in the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards in 2012. She sings in four languages (German, English, French, and Spanish) and is
currently performing with various groups up and down the East Coast. Martina owns her own booking agency called Red Velvet Sounds and is cofounder and curator of the In Momentum concert series.

Martina is a social activist who is passionate about learning more about other cultures, helping to develop a sense for community, and fighting inequality and racism. She is a strong advocate of causes that promote equal human rights independent of religious or political affiliations. From 2009 to 2010, Martina was the founder and president of the Cultural Leaders Club at Berklee College of Music, where students investigated causes and effects in terms of race, gender, and ethnicity issues. Sonic Relief, which Martina cofounded, was awarded the Berklee Urban Service Award 2016 for using music to aid people in need.

Gabriela is an incredible voice teacher. As a "self-taught" singer myself, I had struggled with maintaining my voice during performances, and my lessons with Gabriela helped me overcome the issue. She is patient, insightful and very knowledgeable, and her musical depth and scope opened new techniques, styles and repertoire for me. Thank you Gabriela!

I'm an adult who had NO fun whatsoever to go to my piano classes due to the fact that Efren has a controlling style approach. All you have to do is listen to what he has to say, you can't get a word in and is condescending. I can't even imagine being a child and having to put up with his bullying.

I have been on stage performing for more than 12 years.
I performed in several countries in Africa, Europe and USA.

About Albino
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.

Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.

While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.

Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.

Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.

Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

I can assist students in performing technique; from getting over stage jitters to solidifying technique and understanding of the music.

About Sara
Hello, and welcome to my page! My philosophy for singing is that a truly great singer is versatile, and that the ideal voice is a flexible instrument that can handle a variety of genres and styles.

My personal training is primarily in classical, and I have a Master's degree in classical voice/opera from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. However, I also actively sing pop, musical theater, and even heavy metal!

Singing can be challenging, and while I work with the student intensely to diagnose and fix vocal issues, it is very important to me that the student feels happy and confident. I encourage students to express their creativity by singing in styles that they feel comfortable with, choosing their own songs, and even adding their own riffs/runs/ornamentations.

I like to place a heavy focus on music theory and sight-singing (I
offer private lessons in these subjects separately as well); It is extremely important for young singers to be able to read the notes on the staff, to understand rhythm and key, and to find pitches on the piano.

I accept beginning-intermediate singers of all ages. I additionally offer music theory, sight-singing, and diction lessons as well as beginner/introductory piano.

It has been said that music does not exist in a vacuum, and I couldn't agree more. The joy and beauty of music really comes alive when you collaborate with other musicians and when you share that music with others. Whether you are a complete novice or a seasoned professional, we will work together to prepare you for the big day when you share your hard work and dedication with friends, family, and other audience members. I have experience with preparing a complete beginner for a performance in a matter of weeks: they had no experience playing an instrument and could not read music. I can help you achieve similar goals. We will work on presentation, focus, memorization, and musicality while recreating the elements of live performance. Lessons can be integrated with bassoon lessons or can be standalone coachings for your instrument of choice.

About Allen
Allen H. is a highly experienced performer of bassoon, earning degrees from some of the most prestigious schools in the world including Indiana University and Juilliard. He is available for in-studio, in-home, and online lessons on a variety of musical topics, and has experience teaching a wide range of students from high school to adult. He is dedicated to helping you achieve your musical goals using an approach that is tailored to you. He will often relate musical concepts in non-musical terms, making his approach easily accessible to a wide variety of students.
