Hello,
I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. Patience and respect, in regard to the students, have become as important aspects of teaching to me, as those of discipline and professionalism.
My studies have come to an end; I see now, that the world of music is an endless entity, for it has no boundaries, and we all have to maintain our further progress, in order to move to our chosen destinations, and to help others with their own advancements.

Vasiliy has been coming to my home for years. He is so patient, so kind and wonderful with young students. My daughter started with him at age 6 (she's now 12) and Vasiliy has made so much progress with her. Every time she plays, I am amazed. She has started to play and sing along as well. We are very happy with Vasiliy and I highly recommend him.

A thorough understanding of music theory can be of tremendous help to any musician, regardless of the instrument. As a guitar teacher, I usually teach music theory as it relates to the guitar. If the guitar is not your main instrument, I will explain certain concepts via piano/keyboard.

Depending on your background, we can start with basic music notation or jump straight into modal harmony or other topics.

My music theory lessons cover a lot of the material that is taught at Berklee's harmony courses. I would give you weekly assignments, so you can get some hands-on experience and deepen your understanding of the material. In essence, you can get a Berklee-like music theory education for a fraction of the cost at your own speed.

If you are looking for an instructor who is patient, willing to go at your pace, and answer all your questions, then, Andy is the instructor for you. I have been taking online lessons with him for over a year and have learned a lot. I always believed that you needed a skill to be able to play an instrument but I have come to learn that it takes passion, practice, and a very good teacher. I highly recommend Andy.

No better guitar teacher than Andy. I began with him when I was 10, and was able to progressive extremely because of his knowledge and methods of teaching. I am now 21 living in Paris, playing gigs and still remember and have all those sheets of scales he gave me years ago!

I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80's and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun.

I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point.

In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Bil Mooney-McCoy is a life-long Boston resident who has been playing music all his life. Having served as a church musician for more
than 30 years, I am currently the Director of Worship for the chapel at Gordon College, a small Christian school north of Boston. I'm often involved in city-wide music events in Boston’s faith-based community and in demand as a featured musician for church services, parties, concerts and other events.

I hold a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles. My priority as a teacher is to make the learning process fun, life-giving, and productive. I teach with patience and humor, at a challenging but not frustrating pace.

There are at least two ways that might set me apart from other teachers.

Firstly, I have honed and developed "people skills". I am an ordained minister and have held positions where I was formally and informally in a mentoring/pastoring role. I bring that sensitivity to my music lessons, understanding that personal and emotional issues can be triggered by the engagement with the music and skills being worked on.

Secondly, I've had a remarkable broad base of experience. My coursework has exposed me to a wide breadth of ideas and tools; my work life has been long and varied; I have had extensive experience in many different cultural contexts, both musically and otherwise; and I work well with many age groups and skill levels.

Regarding my teaching approach:
For beginners, I have a fairly consistent set of topics and skill sets to cover. Generally, in a few months, piano students (particularly those in middle school through adulthood) should know how to play major, minor and seventh chords, how to read simple chord charts and some very basic accompanying skills. Guitar students should know a dozen open chords and have been introduced to barre chords, and to have learned several styles of finger picking as well as strumming. Bass students should know how to find notes on the board and will have begun to learn how to fill out a song with an expressive but non-obtrusive bass line.

For intermediate students, the pace, direction and focus on lessons depends upon the goals and passions of the student along with the amount of time he or she has to practice. My goals for students at this level and beyond is to learn how to learn. I will use outstanding recorded examples of particular skills or stylistic idioms to help my students understand and master each new concept. I often will check in with my student to make sure that we are on track with what they are hoping for.

For advanced students, we will generally target very specific objectives. I also try to add elements of theory, history, culture, and even life lessons to apply to the topics we address. Because of my background in pastoral ministry, I can serve as a mentor addressing the emotional and relational issues of playing music as well as its technical aspects.

Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. He is always upbeat and positive and I enjoy our lessons a lot. Could not recommend him more highly.

Having started my musical path as a singer/soloist in a children's choir "Little Singers of Armenia" I got introduced to the world of classical music from a very young age. At the same time, I was attending a local music school where I would sing jazz and contemporary tunes. My efforts in the choir granted me various concert tours and performances around the world. Among them were recitals and performances in UK, Japan, Sweden, Russia, Georgia, Latvia, etc.

My solo musical journey started at the age of 11 when I won the First Prize in "Singing Armenia" national music festival. My great passion for music was not only limited to singing as I explored choral conducting under the mentorship of notable conductor maestro Tigran Hekekyan. I am a professional songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and recording artist. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Jazz and Music Production.

Music Theory students can expect to work each week on understanding core music theory concepts. Some of the practice each week will include analyzing classical pieces, and writing out exercises on staff paper, but a large portion of the lesson is about applying the concepts to contemporary music and even to original compositions by the student. I encourage students to explore how these concepts present themselves in the genres of music that my students are interested in. I teach beginner and intermediate piano students. I've been playing piano for 10+ years with a concentration in contemporary keyboard and musical theater. Depending on the needs of the student, we can work on sight reading and classical technique, or learning how to read chord sheets and tabs online in order to play contemporary songs.

As a professional touring and recording artist, I like to work songwriting into all of my lesson plans. For any student particularly interested in songwriting, I can make that a much larger portion of the lessons. Songwriting is a uniquely intimate art. Rather than tell a student how I think they should write songs, I strive to empower the student to be able to make the artistic decisions that they want. By making conscious decisions based on their musical knowledge, the student can grow his or her's own unique songwriting voice.

My personal passion is contemporary songwriting, but my own musical journey included many genres like Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Theater, and more. With over a decade and a half of performing experience and a teaching history that spans almost ten years, Joe works with all levels from “can’t read a note” to collegiate. Saxophone and piano students will find a patient and encouraging tutor who teaches not just rote mechanics, but musicianship and a love for music. Composition and theory students will find a keen eye for details and attention to developing their unique voice through music. Whatever their studies, Joe encourages a commitment to both craft and artistry.

About Joseph
I'm an award-winning conductor, composer, saxophonist, and pianist with over a decade and a half of performing experience and a teaching experience of almost ten years. My focus is on developing not just technical facility but musicianship and love for music. Whether you're working on an instrument or writing music, my intention is for you to develop the ability to express your unique identity in performance. Whatever your studies, I encourage commitment to both craft and artistry.

As a saxophonist, I was winner of the 2010 Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Solo Competition, was twice a national finalist in the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition, and won the University of Puget Sound's Concerto/Aria Competition. In 2012, while playing with the Puget Sound Saxophone Quartet, our group took 3rd Prize in the MTNA National Chamber Music Competi
tion and the First Prize in the Seattle Ladies' Musical Club Chamber Music Competition. Our performance on Classical King FM was syndicated by the National American Public Media's Performance Today.

As a composer, my works have been heard across the country, including my work award-winning Babel, which was performed by the Donald Sinta Saxophone Quartet in 2014 at Carnegie Hall. That work is soon to be released on the DSQ's debut album, Collider. Recent commissions have included works for the Departure Duo and the ensemble Latitude 49.

Called "quite musical and effective" by Classical Voice North Carolina, I bring experience as a conductor and pianist in both the symphonic and operatic repertoire. My work and studies have brought me from Seattle to Pittsburgh to Boston, to Spain to Germany and Romania. I hold a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan, and an undergraduate in Music Education from the University of Puget Sound.
