After earning my BA in Economics at Harvard, I followed my true passion and began playing music professionally. I'm a Berklee Music College Alumnus, and I did learn a lot there. My guitar heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia, Eric Clapton, Jimi Paige, John Lee Hooker, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts. I love all the inspired by the greats, but as well as listening to my favorite guitarists, I also listen to just about everything under the sun, and appreciate all types of music.

Guitar:
Guitar is one of my favorite instrument to learn and I began playing at age seven. To become a well rounded musician and player I always start with basics. Hand and finger technique, notes, rhythms, chords, learning the fretboard, soloing and songs. If the student is only interested in learning songs I am happy to have them bring in anything they want to learn. For students who want more advanced technique I will teach them theory and how it relates.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

The most valuable thing I learned as a student and a teacher is that the learning process is worth infinitely more than the song or the chord the student was actually learning. I will almost never give a student the answer, because if we work together to find that answer, the student feels like they earned it, they have learned skills that will help them in all future things that they learned, and they also are much more likely to remember what they have just discovered. Spending time building a chord or transcribing a song together from scratch is infinitely more valuable than handing a student a list of things to memorize. Music is such a deeply rich and complex thing that absolutely everyone can experience, do and love, and I want to help everyone to that point.

About Sam

I started playing guitar when I was 7 and loved it. A couple years after that I started playing in bands, and a couple years after that I started writing music. I've done music programs and studied guitar at Interlochen Center for the Arts and Berklee School of Music. In the summer of 2019 I worked

"Lars has a gift of teaching guitar. Actually, I think he loves playing and sharing that love of music with others and it shows. He instructs my 5 year old (who has the music bug). Lars has a unique way of teaching him and keeping him wanting to learn more. One example, of many, is as he teaches my son new cords and rhythms he plays music with him. While my son does rhythm he does a riff. The effect is that my son calls it "band practice." It's amazing to how Lars has made it fun and made him want to practice. Lars also always take time to show me what to work on with my son during the week. You rock Lars!"

"Fantastic teacher. Aaron is great at identifying where you're at in your guitar journey and applying your own taste and preferences in music to the lessons and what you're learning. He also works a lot on ear training and connecting ear and mind to the instrument. If you're looking for someone who will help you tune your ear to the guitar, help you identify notes and scales, learn the songs you love, and all while learning theory and technique then Aaron is a great teacher for you."

"Charlie is very good at balancing between fun and getting work done. I was able to actually learn very quickly the notes and chords while also wanting to be there and participate. He’s good at listening to what the class wants to actually learn and incorporating that into what we need to learn at the same time. Overall he’s a very good teacher to have."

I had a few questions before making this purchase and the level of service that I received from Ahmad really blew me away. As a result, I feel great about this purchase and can't wait to hear how the lessons are. I'll be sure to come back and leave another (hopefully 5 star) review then."

Best Rock Guitar Songs for Beginners to Learn

When you’re first learning to play guitar, it's important to develop the dexterity and coordination of your left and the right hands. To be able to use both hands is our initial goal and this takes a good amount of practice. If you’re going to spend hours practicing, you might as well use that time to learn something that you like to play. After all, it is much more fun to practice songs in a genre that you like, rather than practicing a piece in a style that you don’t like. So, if you …
