I believe that there are players and then there are musicians. Theory is the key to achieving that next level. The more you understand your instrument and how music is related, the better you will be in achieving your long-term goals.

It was only my first lesson but I've had to take lessons constantly during my younger years and it was always made difficult to understand. Frankie let me choose what I wanted to learn and has made it easy to get excited about it.

Composer / pianist Ben Schwendener sustains a unique voice in contemporary creative music and is a leading authority on George Russell’s Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, which he assisted Russell in teaching at the New England Conservatory from 1986 to 2004. As a composer, I have a strong background and love for music theory. I believe that learning theory will complement and inform your music-making and help you understand how music is put together. ~

My approach involves developing both written and aural skills while finding practical applications for these abilities by analyzing pieces that you are performing and exploring how theoretical knowledge can make you a better performer.

About Michael

A bit about me - in my creative work, I like to explore narrative and extramusical ideas through sound. I'm often inspired by literature, visual art, dance, and my Japanese heritage. I'm a recent graduate of Temple University with a Master's in Music Composition, and my work has been presented by p

I have been a student of Michael’s for approximately 7 months. My only previous experience with violin had been one year in elementary school band class and 8 months with a private teacher. When my private teacher’s lesson schedule changed, I was introduced to Michael and was greatly impressed by his skill level and teaching style. I have learned so much more than I had expected in each lesson, like how to self-tune, use a metronome, shift, and various other techniques. Michael constantly offers feedback on how I can execute techniques better, and I feel that this helps me to learn more effectively. He is always challenging me by giving me harder pieces and scales. I have even been told by my high school orchestra conductor that I have improved so much and she is constantly surprised by how fast I am learning. I highly recommend having Michael as a teacher for anyone looking to learn how to play the violin.

Michael is very talented and he is a great instructor. He explains the techniques really well. Very professional and supportive. I highly recommend him!
Tanush
Micheal is a fantastic teacher that manages to solve every question and problem I have about my instrument. His teaching technique breaks down complex things into easy-to-understand lessons that help give me and his other students great comprehension of the topics that we need to know to become better musicians. I sincerely cannot recommend him enough to beginning and intermediate musicians.
