I have been arranging music for over years, so I am very update on music theory rules, skills, and tricks! I teach music and music theory when I teach private voice, voice classes, a cappella classes, and musical direct musicals. I took AP music theory in high school and went on to take ear training and music theory at Syracuse University, where I received my BFA in Theatre. I have Sibelius, a music notation software, and am very proficient in it because of my music theory knowledge.

I graduated with a BFA in Acting/Theatre from the theatre program at Syracuse University (SU). At SU, I also studied in the Setnor School of Music, taking choir, music theory, and competing with a collegiate a cappella group. Through my undergrad degree, I studied at the Globe Theatre in London and spent a semester taking classes with Broadway and TV/Film Casting agents in New York City. I have performed professionally in Scotland, New York, and toured many theatres and schools in Chicago, Wisconsin, and Indiana. *** Lesson Details ***

I am energetic, positive, and specific. Singing can be easy and fun and I hope to instill that in all my students. I like to get work done while still smiling and laughing. In lessons, we will focus on properly using your breath and body to have the best technique possible. Whether you want to sing classical repertoire in your all-state choir, get into a competitive musical theatre BFA program, win scholarships, audition for Broadway or Disney, or belt a pop song better in your car/shower, I can definitely help you! Between 1 to 6 months, you can expect to have a stronger and fuller voice/sound, feel more confident singing/acting, and perform with more ease. We will stretch your vocal range so you begin to sing even higher and lower than before! I like to start the lesson with warm-ups and vocalizations, work in a little music theory, and then work on repertoire. I have many repertoire books and can help you choose songs that best fit your age, gender, and personality. However, you can also have the option of bringing in pieces you need to work on for auditions, shows, or just for fun! I encourage students to record the lesson so that you can practice between lessons and record notes if you are learning a song. I think music and theatre allows people to express themselves, gain confidence, and use their creativity/imagination. Great technique is a solid foundation for developing skills and individuality in your craft and a long career.

I had a great first lesson. She listened to my goals and concerns about my voice and then in a short half hour lesson worked me though many exercises that really helped me address my concerns and are helping me reach my goals. She is friendly and easy to work with but good at keeping me on track.

I started studying classical piano at the age of 6 and continued through high school before going on to study with Robert Shannon at Oberlin Conservatory, where I majored in music history and theory (as well as English and creative writing - I've always had a lot of interests!). I also sang in choirs from a early age, including my high school's Madrigal Singers, the MMEA Northeast District Chorus, and the Oberlin College Choir, a select group which performs regularly with the Cleveland Orchestra. After graduation, I tried out a variety of musical activities, including singing with a semi-professional a Capella group, None of the Above, and appearing in local community theatre productions. But I finally realized that I'm most comfortable behind a piano, whether playing and conducting for musical theatre, coaching singers, writing music for
youth productions, or teaching the next generation of music lovers how to navigate the keys. And while I perform mostly Broadway-style music now, my classical training continues to serve me well; using good technique not only allows me to play more accurately and expressively, it also protects me from injuries that might otherwise arise from long rehearsals and a busy performance schedule.

I'm excited about where my musical journey has taken me, and I look forward to helping you start or continue yours.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm serious about making sure my students learn basic skills, like reading notes and rhythms and learning to interpret music artistically, that will serve them not only as developing pianists but in any future musical endeavors. To that end, I choose method books (such as the Faber Piano Adventures series) and supporting materials that build a strong foundation of musical knowledge, and I help each student construct a practice schedule that's appropriate to his or her level.

However, although I do maintain a certain amount of structure, I am very patient and relaxed in my approach to each individual student. I recognize that not everyone learns at the same speed or in the same way, so as long as I can tell you're putting in the effort, I will also try my hardest to find what works for you! And I know it's easiest to stay motivated when working on music you love, so I like to supplement the regular lesson materials with music of the student's choice, whether that means offering a selection of level-appropriate classical pieces, helping locate an arrangement of a favorite song, or coming up with our own arrangement if a good one doesn't already exist. And while my own background is strongest in classical and Broadway styles, I'm happy to have students work on music from any genre. One of the best parts of teaching is when I get to learn something new as well.

Malden studio: Dedicated studio with 88-key weighted keyboard, recording equipment, and large collection of sheet music. Parents can sit in on lessons or wait downstairs. Parking in driveway or on street. We have cats.

Bedford studio: Front room setup for lessons with upright piano and stereo. Laptop available to record lessons. Parents can sit in on lessons. Parking available in driveway and street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to provide a piano or suitable keyboard (88 keys, weighted keys or at least somewhat touch-sensitive, with a clear piano sound). For vocal students, it would be helpful for them to have a separate music stand as well.

*** Specialties ***
In terms of vocal music, I am definitely most comfortable with Broadway-style repertoire, but I have experience with some of the classical repertoire as well. As a pianist I have a solid classical background but am also very familiar with Broadway playing styles; I think I've done a little of everything at this point, so I could adapt to any interests my students might have. I am trained in the Taubman piano technique, which focuses on healthy, effective motions, so I try to incorporate some elements of that in my teaching, to the extent
that I think a particular student will benefit from it.

As for methods: for beginning and intermediate piano students I tend to use the Faber Piano Adventures series, supplemented by additional exercise books (Dozen a Day, for example), simple classical pieces (Bastien publishes a book that I like), or other materials depending on the student's interest and level of achievement (pop, Broadway, etc.). For advanced students I would use different exercise books (Hanon, Czerny, etc.) and focus more on repertoire than method, continuing to teach theory and technique as it comes up.

For vocal students I have mostly stuck to whatever materials/repertoire the student was most interested in, plus vocal exercises to support any problems or challenges they might be working on (e.g., range, vowel formation, learning a healthy mix/belt technique).

I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. I graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition in 2007, and from Hebrew College with a Masters' Degree in Jewish Education in June, 2016. I have been working in after-school, Hebrew school, camp, and other supplementary educational settings for the past ten years. Most of my students are learning piano, and I also have a few Hebrew students. My Hebrew students are either studying for their bnei mitzvah, maintaining their conversational Hebrew, or learning for the purpose of competence of services or Torah study. My piano students have ranged from age 4 to young children learning Classical pieces to teens learning to play the songs they like to adults working on their songwriting and improvisation. My strengths are improvisation, music theory and ear training, accompaniment of popular songs - rock, theater, pop, folk, etc.

My first lesson was everything I hoped for from start to finish. I haven't played piano for many years & wanted to begin by using a keyboard as a learning tool--to recapture dexterity and reading ability. Ricky is an amazingly creative and inspiring teacher.

Ricky has been teaching my daughter for last 5 years. My daughter is now 15 years old. She already played piano for a couple of years before Ricky started working with her and at that time was getting disinterested. We were looking for someone who would bring that interest and spark back into her playing piano. I was looking for a special teacher who can teach basics of improvisation and accompaniment to a young child. After talking with several potential teachers, we decided to work with Ricky.

Ricky has proven to be an amazing teacher for my daughter. He is patient, creative and able to adjust to the child’s needs. I was amazed when couple of months after my daughter started working with him; she was already improvising and playing really cool pieces of music. That kind of teaching has inspired my daughter to continue playing piano for the last 5 years. She has accompanied two of her friends singing at her school talent shows and graduation ceremony with encouragement and inspiration Ricky has provided her all along.

Ricky frequently encourages my daughter to pick her own songs she would like to work on. Ricky has a strong knowledge of music theory and has incorporated that in his lessons. I love that my daughter is learning music theory, improvisation, accompaniment and reading music all with the same teacher. It is not easy to find a teacher who is so creative to include all of these in his teaching method. I would highly recommend Ricky as a piano teacher for any age.

My name is Sean I am a composer living in Waltham, MA. I hold a Master's in Music Composition from the University of Redlands and a Bachelor's in Music from the University of SC. I have been teaching guitar, bass, keyboard, audio engineering, and songwriting/composition for 3 years.

Whether you are a novice, a seasoned musician, or just someone with an old guitar and too much time on your hands, I am ready to teach you. I offer in-studio, in-home, and Skype lessons at 1/2 hr to 1 1/2 increments. In these lessons, I will provide you with the materials required. My only prerequisite is that students are required to own the instrument that they are studying.

I am a new student -- and have never learned to play an instrument. I was encouraged by medical providers to learn an instrument as part of certain of my cognitive therapies. My instrument (the mandolin) was a gift from my son.
I have been fortunate to work with Sean O. G. Burns over the past few months. His style is perfect for my needs. He is patient, and leads with a gentle push -- no pressure! Sean is incredibly talented in his own right musically, and has talents - I'm sure, well beyond my needs -- I see him as an excellent teacher for all ages!

Hi, my name is Aidan. I'm a composer, performer, guitar instructor and band leader. I teach at my apartment in Cambridge and can drive within the Cambridge area.

I am a Hampshire College music program graduate who has taught students of various ages, skills, and music preferences. I play guitar in Freddy & the Yetis, a touring band out of New England and i'm currently living Cambridge this year to study with one of Berklee's most prominent professors. Ive played hundreds of gigs in my life.

Aidan is a terrific teacher!! I played professionally over 35 years ago and have not played at all since. At this point I could not play ANYTHING. He took me back through the basics and got me thinking the way I did when I was in my teens. Clearly he has the technical aspect of both music and teaching down - but what made him a great teacher to me is his love of music and guitar. Reminded me of why I loved it in the first place. Although we didn't match up on style perfectly - he embraced the music that I loved and got me back up and running - could not give him a higher recommendation!!

Bryan has been great to work with. He has a lot of patience, which is important for someone like me who has a very limited musical background. He is clearly well educated in singing and is able to impart his knowledge to his students. I believe that anyone who takes lessons with him has the potential to greatly improve.

Hello! Teaching students at beginner and intermediate levels of music theory, I feel I can provide a solid foundation and understanding of the basics and some of the more advanced concepts and schools of thought in music theory. My experience writing songs will also provide you with a basic set of skills for writing your own.

Through our lessons, you can expect to learn or solidify your knowledge of music theory basics and move through history and the development of music to build an understanding of how music is written, as well as learn some basic composition skills.
