I have been learning music theory since
the mid-70s. I became an assistant to composer and author of "The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization" copyrighted by George Russell. I also leaned music theory traditionally. Students can learn all definable chord types, intervals and rhythms etc. I am a composer, guitarist and percussionist, who has the ability to share this information with my students !

About Gregg
I have had extensive jazz a rock studies from attending The Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, to becoming George Russell's teaching assistant at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston before he retired. I learned from a true master of jazz and contemporary music regarding composition, improvisation, theory and teaching students.

*** Lesson Details ***
My aim is to share my musical knowledge, sense of harmony and technique to dedicated students. All melody and chords come from scales, which is essential to understanding music, as well as rhythms. I also accept what a student wants to learn. An important attribute of mine is patience, and the understanding that each person processes information differently.

Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!

Learn how chords and chord progressions are constructed and improve your playing and composing by understanding what you are hearing.

About Itai
I graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition in 2007, and from Hebrew College with a Masters' Degree in Jewish Education in June, 2016. I have been working in after-school, Hebrew school, camp, and other supplementary educational settings for the past ten years. Most of my students are learning piano, and I also have a few Hebrew students. My Hebrew students are either studying for their bnei mitzvah, maintaining their conversational Hebrew, or learning for the purpose of competence of services or Torah study. My piano students have ranged from age 4 to young children learning Classical pieces to teens learning to play the songs they like to adults working on their songwriting and improvisation. My strengths are improvisation, music theory and ear training, accompaniment of popular songs - rock, theater, pop, folk, etc.

Please feel free to get in touch and ask questions!

My first lesson was everything I hoped for from start to finish. I haven't played piano for many years & wanted to begin by using a keyboard as a learning tool--to recapture dexterity and reading ability. I emerged with a better grasp of basics & even a little music theory--exactly as I had requested. Itai is a wonderfully patient teacher & I am looking forward to next week.

Ricky is an amazingly creative and inspiring teacher.

Ricky has been teaching my daughter for last 5 years. My daughter is now 15 years old. She already played piano for a couple of years before Ricky started working with her and at that time was getting disinterested. We were looking for someone who would bring that interest and spark back into her playing piano. I was looking for a special teacher who can teach basics of improvisation and accompaniment to a young child. After talking with several potential teachers, we decided to work with Ricky.

Ricky has proven to be an amazing teacher for my daughter. He is patient, creative and able to adjust to the child’s needs. I was amazed when couple of months after my daughter started working with him; she was already improvising and playing really cool pieces of music. That kind of teaching has inspired my daughter to continue playing piano for the last 5 years. She has accompanied two of her friends singing at her school talent shows and graduation ceremony with encouragement and inspiration Ricky has provided her all along.

Ricky frequently encourages my daughter to pick her own songs she would like to work on. Ricky has a strong knowledge of music theory and has incorporated that in his lessons. I love that my daughter is learning music theory, improvisation, accompaniment and reading music all with the same teacher. It is not easy to find a teacher who is so creative to include all of these in his teaching method. I would highly recommend Ricky as a piano teacher for any age.

As a cello performance major in college, music theory courses were a requirement for my degree. Having earned a bachelors degree and now working towards my masters degree, I have studied and taken courses from the very basics to more advanced theory. Please email me if you have any questions! I hope to hear from you soon.

About Victor
My name is Victor and I have been actively teaching cello for the past 4 years. In Ames, IA I had a studio of 8 students, all ranging from different age groups and abilities. I also have experience teaching online lessons, which require a slightly different approach than normal in person lessons. I recently moved to Boston to pursue my masters degree in cello performance at The Boston Conservatory. I am looking forward to building a studio here in Boston! My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your musical goals. I try my absolute hardest to create a warm and positive environment for all of my students. I understand that all of my students are different and I make sure to create individual lesson plans for each of my students. Not only will you grow as a musician and as a cellist, but I believe that learning an instrument gives us sk
ills that can be beneficial in every aspect of our daily lives. Whether you are new to the cello, picking it back up after some time off, or at a more advanced level, I hope to hear from you! If you have any questions at all, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!

BIO:
Born in Minneapolis, MN, Victor Mooney began playing cello at the age of 7. While in Minneapolis he studied with Tom Austin, former member of the Minnesota Opera. Victor completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Iowa State University, where he studied with George Work. Upon graduation he was awarded the Outstanding Senior in Music award, the highest honor the Music Department at Iowa State gives. While in undergrad he also received a scholarship for excellence in performance. Starting in the fall of 2015, Victor will be pursuing a Master's of Music in Cello Performance from The Boston Conservatory, where he will be studying with Andrew Mark. I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best.

We were thrilled with Josh! Our son really enjoyed his lessons and improved significantly working with him for the last year. Josh is a motivational teacher - our son WANTED to practice each day and that is because of Josh's inspiration and modeling what it takes to be a great drummer. Our son gained both the confidence and ability to audition for an make it into 3 high school bands this year. He couldn't have done it without Josh. From learning to read and write notes and rhythms, to Music History, Harmony, Music Forms... Music has its own language. There are tons of books and methods about Music Theory to discover. They are an essential part when learning a new piece, when trying to improve our performance or to understand the specific style of a composer or a historical period. All levels welcome!

About Ana Laura
I am a young professional flute and piccolo player from Argentina where I received my Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo.
My passion for music took me to Europe where I completed my post graduate studies with a Masters in Flute Performance (2012-2014) and a Masters in Flute Pedagogy (2014-2017) both from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts), in Switzerland.
I started teaching flute in 2009 in a national program inspired in "El Sistema" which provides music lessons for kids all over the country. Since then I have taught privately in Spanish, English and German to people of all ages, levels and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
As a musician I take part in orchestral and chamber music projects in Argentina, Switzerland and since last summer in Boston as well.
Besides the importance of learning the technique to play the flute, what I enjoy the most is the unique opportunity to communicate with others through the instrument, through the music and without words, regardless of your level. I am looking forward to share this passion with you!
