I love my lessons with Naomi! She's an excellent teacher - she knows how to break things down into easier parts so that I understand; she's very patient, and gives great feedback. I feel like we are making progress through the assignments she gives me and I like feeling that I'm improving with each lesson. She's a natural teacher. Naomi is my first online teacher and I am so happy with her - I thought I might have to try a few to find a teacher I like, but I was lucky the first time. I think she's wonderful.

In my lessons, my primary focus is helping students learn cello at their own pace, and developing their love and appreciation for music! Cello can be challenging, but anyone can learn with the right guidance! I have a conservatory training, and years of experience teaching people of all ages how to play. I so appreciated my first Lesson with Nick! We had planned to meet in person, but because of the current quarantine had to have class online - and it was wonderful! He was encouraging and clear and was able to diagnose some of my bad habits and give me ways to get past them. He also generously shared resources and repertoire. I'm much looking forward to continuing with him - just what I needed both musically and to keep my spirits up!

Great first lessons. I have 2 boys, each learning a different instrument (violin & guitar), and Nick was great with them. Looking forward to the future lessons.

It is my foremost belief as a teacher that my students are truly capable of anything they set their mind to. I teach with positive reinforcement and never judgement to create a warm and comfortable environment that fosters and nurtures potential! I see teaching as more than teaching a person to learn the cello, but as an opportunity to accompany students on their journey towards embracing who they are, creating meaningful art, and connecting to the world through music.

No matter the age or prior experience of the student, you can expect a heavy focus on establishing a firm foundation of cello technique. Without this foundation, the student can only progress so much. With the foundation set and solid, the possibilities are endless! I teach tension-free cello playing. There should never be pain or discomfort anywhere in the body which is why I have such a large focus on establishing proper technique.

Ultimately, it takes courage to put effort towards learning an instrument and I ...

Would definitely recommend him to any individuals or parents looking to hire a cello teacher out there.

"My 9-year-old son has been taking cello lessons with Jessica for about 4 weeks and it has been a great experience. Jessica is very professional and competent teacher, always being on time, communicating in a very fun and engaging way, and assigning homework very clearly. Andrew very much enjoys the classes and, as a result, he is even more motivated to play the cello. I would highly recommend Jessica."

"I took cello lessons from Mr. Anderson for eight years, and he was an absolutely fantastic instructor. I began playing cello because I watched him teach my brother and thought as a ten-year-old that it would be fun to take lessons with Mr. Anderson. He is a great communicator, super personable, provides suggestions and critique in a constructive manner, and is encouraging and supportive. He taught me all of the basics of cello playing and beyond, helping me work through all sorts of pieces, including etudes, solo pieces, all-region and all-state audition material, youth orchestra material (e.g., GDYO), etc. (and helped me succeed in all of these aspects). Would highly recommend taking lessons with Mr. Anderson—he is an absolute pleasure to learn from!"

"Ellen is wonderful. She's been playing cello for over a decade and received her degree from Berklee College of Music. Knowing that, I anticipated that she would be somewhat intimidating in our lesson together, but she was the exact opposite-- she was so down to earth, and she was very encouraging when I felt like I was not getting the hang of things in time. She's also very receptive to your needs/desires. We just barely crossed paths while she was in town, and I was merely hoping to get a feel for the instrument, so we had a very playful (but informative!) experience. I know that she also has a wealth of formal training, so no matter what your pace--she's your girl. She also has a cool band of her own, which you should check out!"

Cello Thumb Position: Where to Place Your Fingers & Hands

Cello thumb position is one of the big leaps of technique for advancing cellists and is one of the skills that sets more advanced students from the intermediate. This new technique opens up the higher ranges of the instrument and allows us to play more advanced solos and etudes. This technique is not something you should rush into though! Make sure to take things slowly at first and master the basic concepts before moving on.  When Should You Focus on Your Cello Thumb Position? There have to …
