I specialize in Pop, R&B, Musical Theater, Spiritual, Gospel, and all other forms of contemporary music.

I started performing on stage at the age of four years old. I began formal private lessons in voice and acting at the age of 10 at The Newark School of the Arts and at The Children’s Theater Workshop in Essex County, New Jersey. As a young teen, I also began directing and leading the youth and adult choirs in church. As a result of my commitment to my craft I had numerous opportunities to perform and record as an accomplished artist throughout the United States and abroad.

As an international performer my credits include touring throughout the country of China as a lead singer for the
state of the arts Thai City Theater. Other recent credits include working as a lead production singer for the renowned cruise line, Carnival; sailing the Western and Eastern Caribbean islands performing Las Vegas style production shows.

I am currently the CEO of my own entertainment company 2-4-1 Entertainment and mobile music school. I perform regularly for various commercial establishments and private venues.

I studied Music and Theater at Montclair State University earning a BA degree along with a teaching license in performing arts.

With all that said, I describes my greatest accomplishments as sharing my passion to sing to all who are willing to learn. I am as passionate about teaching as I am about performing.

If you love singing, then you should love your lessons. Lessons with me are fun, challenging as well as enriching.

Instruction will include:

-Light stretching exercises to reduce tension and relax muscles that can block good vocal production and vocal freedom.

-Carefully listen to, accessing and giving you feedback about your vocal potential and growth

-Identifying vocal range and limitations

-Proper vocal techniques with respect to vocal scales, learning to breathe, pitch, tonality, durability and posture

-Selecting music collaboratively that suits your tastes and ability

-Working with professional backing tracks like many contemporary artists in the industry

-Lyrical interpretation with respect to performance

-Sharing the understanding of vocal anatomy and how it affects singing

-Allowing you to tape record lessons for practice purposes.

-Comfortable environments where asking questions are encouraged and making mistakes are simply part of the learning process.

-Teaching and practicing good vocal health, including the need to drink water and monitor the speaking voice

-Building confidence as a singer and performer

As much as I loves teaching and building relationships with voice students in my studio, I does not believe lessons should be limited to the classroom. The training process may include performing small venues for family and friends to acquaint the student to performing in front of an audience.

My goal is to teach students who have a desire to perform, the necessary rudiments of singing and performing so he/she can go out into the world and shine as a polished singer!

I could not find a better person than Christine to be my voice coach. I have been working with Christine for a few months and she has pushed me to my full potential. I have learned so much in a few months. She is fun to work with and has encouraged, supported and challenged me along the way.

Christine helped me find my way back to the world of singing. I had not stepped out to sing in years and she assisted me with vocal training, stage fright and stage presence. She has a unique, loving way of getting you right where you need to be. Christine is professional and loves what she does. Jamila has been giving our 7-year-old twin boys piano lessons for six months, and my wife and I are blown away by what an incredible teacher Jamila is. Our boys began never having played a note in their life, and in just six months they play at a level we didn't think they would reach for at least a year and a half or more. Family and friends who hear the boys play are amazed because their own kids took lessons for years and didn't achieve the same level of skill and knowledge of musical theory so early on--and it is 100% thanks to Jamila! She doesn't underestimate kids or teach down to them. She teaches proper technique and theory in a positive, encouraging, yet rigorous way that I imagine most kids will respond very well to. We feel blessed to have found her.

One word..... AMAZING!!!

Before Ms. Jamila was my piano teacher, I had little interest in the piano. My other teacher gave me boring, easy songs, which didn't help. After that, I despised the piano, and thought I never would play it. Then, Ms. Jamila came along. Unlike my other teacher, she asked my interests and what song I really liked. Now, I don't know how I ever hated it. I believe I will go far with her as my teacher. She posts articles on her blog and her website which deepens my understanding of music. I would reccomend her to anyone, because on a scale of 1 to 10, she's infinity!

My present singing career is as an inspirational singer; my vocal students encompass various genres in which I have experience, including: Inspirational, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, as well as various degrees of popular music.

*** Audition Preparation ***
I have coached many of my students to prepare for auditions: auditions to be accepted into performing arts schools, parts in musicals and plays, joining a band or vocal ensemble, as well as auditions for televised singing shows, such as "The Voice," "Sunday's Best," "American Idol" and "The X Factor."

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students by using the tried and true techniques I have found to be successful, and allow the student to be my guide as to which direction to take with his or her vocal training. Whether the student is a novice, a professional, or somewhere in between, each student, after obtaining the basic singing knowledge and techniques, will have a vocal training schedule geared to his or her individual needs and development. Lessons are for the most part very casual in nature, and the student’s dedication (practice, practice, practice) will dictate whether or not the lessons become stricter. A few months into the vocal instruction, students will be given the opportunity to learn more about reading music and sight singing, if he or she so chooses, as well as vocal performance techniques for singing in front of an audience. Within one year, dedicated students may also have the opportunity to show off what they have learned, and perform in front of an audience at a recital with other vocal students. Please note that my preference is to work with teens age 13 through adults of any age. I believe that younger voices need more time to develop and stand to be damaged if too much stress is put on them too soon. However, exceptions for children under 13 may be made for gifted young singers.

A native of the Washington DC Metropolitan area, I have performed with the Washington Opera Company, at the Kennedy Center, and Historic Maryland's Adventure Theatre. New York City credits include performances off-Broadway for the York Theatre Company, CAP21, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

I have been a vocal teacher in Brooklyn, New York, in addition to coaching students privately. Previously, I taught at the Virginia Institute of the Performing Arts, was Musical Director for The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia's Music and Drama Camp and The Snow Camp Historical Drama Society. Not only am I a trained singer, I am also an actor. I understand what it is to communicate and show emotion while singing. Before you can do this, you must also learn healthy singing technique. I will help blend the two.

The first half of each lesson will be dedicated to vocal exercises with the second half to songs I recommend or from your own repertoire. My recommendations may be from a different style of music than you are accustomed to, but I will be working towards helping you sing the style you want to sing.

Every voice is different. As a teacher I want to make sure that my students understand and are comfortable with what they are feeling and hearing. While I am an easy going person, I work very hard to help students find the right path to healthy vocal production.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. This subject deals with the practicalities of music performance, be it instrumental, vocal, or conducting. Issues covered include entering and exiting the stage, bowing, stage presence, speaking to an audience, dealing with memory issues in performance, and more.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid progress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the u
nderstanding of the music. This leads to more beautiful playing and greater enjoyment.

Leni is an incredible instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable and yet never comes across as condescending or arragant.
He is helpful and encouraging and makes learning to play fun.
The music that he selects is challenging without being overwhelming and he is fine with moving on to something else if you just plain don't like a piece.

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Leni. He's very thorough and passionate about playing the piano. It's been years since I played, and he was very patient with me and explained things in detail.

I can honestly say that Leni is one of the most professional and intelligent music instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have a background in music (low brass) from the 6th grade all the way through college. While I no longer play any brass instruments, I am currently taking drum lessons, and felt that now would also be the best time to try my hand (no pun intended) at piano. I am very happy with the lessons that Leni gave, however, I eventually came to the realization that the piano would be too much of a time constraint for me. I was not 100% committed to the piano due to working an 8-5 job every day, as well as taking the drum lessons I was already taking prior to starting piano. Also, it didn't help that I did not have a piano to practice with. With that being said, if I ever find myself with the time/capability to commit myself to the piano the way I wanted to, then I will be contacting Leni for more lessons. There are many piano teachers out there, but if you want to learn the CORRECT way so that you will not hurt your hands/fingers, then Leni is the absolute best choice. Thanks for everything Leni!

Experienced playing in front of many different audiences, i.e.
big audiences with Holland America Line, from 75 to 1000 people in the audience. Dealing with other musicians and the audience is as important as the performance itself, at times.

On the road with American Entertainment Productions,
our group of eight (8) played in front of high-school, middle school and Convention size audiences.
How to play and not lose focus playing your instrument is key.
You are there to perform and share your musical talent.

At different churches, some places were over 300 - 1000, depending on the size of the building, or course.

At lessons, we can talk how to play, read music for musical performance, and what to do after the performance.

About Kerry
I attended Wright State University for two (2) years studying Music , and then transferred to Belmont University to receive a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance. A Masters of Music from Eastern Kentucky University will help overall General music and creative studies.

I also studied at the Eastman School of Music, learning Creative Music Making and African drum studies.

Lastly, I attended University of Dayton for Percussion, Music Technology, & World music, and different Samba schools in Salvador/Rio, Brazil for Samba studies.

I have been performing since 1984 for theatre shows, Pop/Rock, jazz, R & B, Circus’ (Great Wallendas), swing bands, American Entertainment Productions show band (One year), and performed with Holland America Cruise Line for three (3) years. Recently, I've been performing Musicals at Sinclair C
ollege and Dare2Defy Productions, different jazz bands, as well as Church music in the area.

I have been teaching since 2004, both privately and for local studios, offering all styles.

I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.

Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.

The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.

I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.

In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor.

Joshua Blatman is a fantastic music teacher. He has a great resume, is experienced in a variety of instruments, and a solid background in teaching.

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. My 16 year old son loves his lessons with Darrell and looks forward to them every week. He'd been taking guitar lessons elsewhere that were okay-ish, but this is so much more. Darrell is great, not only does he get along with and make my son want to learn, but at the same time they are working on voice, he is also teaching keyboard and working on the guitar! We really couldn't have asked for a better instructor.
