Violin, viola instructor, performing art.
Classical music. Mostly traditional Russian method of violin teaching, also Suzuki.

About Larisa
Began violin lessons at age 8.
At age 15 was accepted into the elite program at the School of Music in Odessa, Ukraine.
Continued on to one of the premier music Universities in the world: Kiev State Conservatory, where I received a Masters degree in Teaching and Performing arts.
Throughout my higher education I have held Violin Instructor positions first at the Kiev Music School and then at the Conservatory.

My Professional Career in Ukraine and USA includes performance with numerous symphony and chamber groups, such as Kiev Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Jose Symphony.
I am passionate and dedicated to my Art which is reflected in my teaching style and in the results my students consistently achieve.
My ultimate goal as an instructor
is to convey to my students the beauty of making music. I define success to be the ability to see the joy that playing for yourself and others brings to you and your audience.

*** Lesson Details ***
My Method and Goals:

Proper technique is the key to producing extraordinary sound and growing as a violist. I ensure that my students gain solid understanding of these fundamentals first and foremost.
A significant part of the first few lessons will be devoted to developing proper posture and hold of the instrument. A good violinist must be relaxed to prevent muscle tension and produce those rich, spellbinding notes. Soon the instrument begins to feel like an extension of the hands, and students begin to progress much quicker, seeing (and hearing) surprising results.
I can follow the Suzuki method if requested, but much prefer principles of the Russian School. I will be happy to discuss the benefits of each with you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
on ground floor of townhouse w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student has to have his own instrument. I can provide the music sheets

*** Specialties ***
Classical music. Mostly traditional Russian method of violin teaching, also Suzuki.

A Great Violin Teacher

My daughter has been taking lessons with Larisa for three years and has made incredible progress. She began as a viola player and Larisa gave her lessons on that instrument as well. She was very helpful in making the transition to violin. Larisa works on technique as well as musicality so that the student develops into a well rounded musician. Larisa is the type of teacher who communicates clearly so that the student is able to immediately grasp the new concepts. She is a wonderful violinist and is able to demonstrate by playing beautifully as well as explaining. Larisa is extremely knowledgeable about the different periods of music and composers and shares this in her teaching. She has an easygoing personality and my daughter immediately connected with her. I would highly recommend Larisa for your student.

I am a fiddler and vocalist for internationally-touring and award-winning folk groups, Tullamore and Brackish Water Jamboree. In addition to my performance schedule, I am also honored to play first violin for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic. I run a thriving online teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2003, after earning my degree in violin performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. **PLEASE CHECK MY AVAILABILITY BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR LESSONS, AS MY TIMES ARE QUITE LIMITED NOW** I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

About Rachel
If you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program
. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

In 2015, I began playing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

I use a variety of different teaching skills and books for students. I believe that every student has a different way of learning. For a basis I use-
Beginner- Sarah Pope's A new tune a day, with Suzuki pieces
Intermediate- I assign a scale book, an etude book, a positions book, and a solo piece related to techniques we are learning.

About Nicole
Hello!

I have just moved to the Baton Rouge area to pursue my Doctorate in Music in violin performance and am looking for students interested in violin or viola. I recently finished my Masters in violin performance while being a private teacher at Bender School of Music in Elkton Maryland where I taught violin and viola. I received my bachelor degree from Colorado State University with a concentration in violin performance and violin/viola pedagogy (the art of private teaching). What is unique to my training is my pedagogy degree, where professors analyzed my teaching to help me perfect it while also studying and analyzing many pedagogues and private teachers.

Currently I have availability every day of the week and weekends as I am still growing my studio. I drive to all my students' homes and do not have a set studio location yet.
If you are not sure whether you live too far away from me, don't hesitate to ask and we will come up with a solution! Normally I will drive to any home within a 20 minute drive of the LSU area.

I ask that all my students own a stand of some sort (a wire stand can run $10-12), a shoulder-rest (which can be in the form of a violin sponge at about $4 or a plastic shoulder rest can be about $25) and the proper books I assign that will be determined at the first lesson. My practice requirement for each student depends on the age and goals of each student but are set in place in the lessons.

I am accepting students who are looking for a permanent teacher OR who are looking to advance during the summer for the next school year. I teach from age 5 to adult. I mainly teach classical violin, but if you express an interest in fiddling music we can certainly look at fiddle material though my main concentration is in classical music.

Looking forward to meeting you!

-Ms. Nikki

Take engaged and creative violin lessons that inspire imagination and playfulness while also enforcing the discipline and focus needed to master refined skills.

About Peace
As a Suzuki violin student at the age of 5, I have been keenly interested in the creative arts and the curious ability of the mind to transport our experiences to vast other places.

I began teaching violin as a middle schooler and I have spent two decades mastering my skills and growing my love of teaching students of all ranges of age, and ability.

In 2009, I studied the Alexander Technique to address issues as a performer and use these skills and techniques to inform my teaching today.

Realizing the mental abilities it takes to play violin, I naturally found interest in meditation.

As a passionate mediator for 12 years, I began teaching all levels how to develop their mind for self-care, compassion, empathy, peace-of-mind and response awareness. I believe these traits are key for all people to live together in a chaotic and
challenging environment.

I started meditation to develop my own self awareness, but these tools can help anyone to find their center, build confidence and gain energy for facing life's hyper-stimulation. My goal is to guide everyone into all levels of meditation, for students who are curious and have never meditated, to advanced meditators looking to take their understanding to the next level.

I teach Vipassana or Insight meditation. I am an affiliate of several meditation centers around the city.

I love teaching all people the ways of violin and meditation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

The most valuable skill you can develop as a musician is learning to read music. While it’s possible to learn to play “by ear,” reading music opens up the world to you as an artist!
