Learning a musical instrument should be fun, exciting, and most importantly pain-free.

First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!

I've taught people who were just beginning violin (both children and adults) to students who were working on major concertos. What is most important to me as a teacher is that the student connect with the music and their instrument by being creative and personalizing my approach for the student. I also strongly strive to make performers out of violinists and to help them engage both audiences and themselves.

Winner of the 2010 NJ Governor’s Award in Arts Education, Katherine has been teaching the violin for over 8 years.

I am happy to offer professional training in violin for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. I have 8 years of teaching experience in an academic environment. I have worked extensively with students of various ages. We will tailor the lessons to your needs and goals to achieve best expected results.

I have been playing the violin/viola for 20 years and teaching for about 11 years. I am a professional musician with music degrees from the Juilliard School and Eastman School of Music. I currently work for Ensemble Connect at Carnegie Hall and teach music at my partner school in NYC. I love playing and teaching music!
