About Wendy
*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.
I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."
*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.
*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.
*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

Whether you're a seasoned professional but would like some assistance in conquering some performance anxiety issues, or you're just starting out, and would like some insight as to how to prepare for a concert, I can assist you in any aspect of music performance and share with you what you need to practice in order to overcome performance related obstacles.
My expertise are not limited to:
- preparing for a concert, recital or performance of any kind in any environment
-an audition, or a performance in front of a panel of judges
- a concerto: a virtuosic solo work
- musical technique, musicality, and any other aspect of playing that may directly affect your presentation of music.
About Jonathan
Most of the subjects I teach are music related, in which I have nearly 10 years of Conservatory training, a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, 2.5 years of Doctoral work, as well as over 17 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level. However, my interests, practices, and skillsets do extend beyond sound and visual art, and in the realm of philosophy, science, physics and spirituality.
As an artist and composer, I’ve been recognized internationally, by way of several organizations: 1st place in the International Trumpet Gu
As an educator, I have taught all-level/all-age group music playing and appreciation courses for several New York-based organizations: The Afro-Latin Jazz Academy, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, New York Ensemble Classes, the Lyceum Kennedy International School, Jubilee Enrichment Programs, and The New York Jazz Academy. Currently, I am finishing 6 semesters of service as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I teach multiple ensembles as well as a 100+ student History of Jazz lecture class.
I have also been practicing various forms of meditation practices and Yoga practices for the past 5 years. My influences span from Astral Projection to Reiki, to Vipassana Meditation, to Visualization Techniques, and much more. I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music and the arts, I have realized that creative flow and love for what one is and does can be applied to anything in life.
Because of my 7+ years experience as a professional artist living in New York City, my students receive both guidance in discovering their own voice and comfort within their desired field of practice, and also practical approaches to retain and utilize their training and pre-ordained skill sets, with self-application and diligence. Through study with me, my students enable themselves to swiftly make progress and move toward a life of renewed purpose and fulfilment. Through specific assignments, exercises, and practices my students foster a real relationship with their instruments, and themselves, thus unlocking their creative minds, for usage in all aspects of their lives.
I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more. Additionally, I am able to travel to any location within the five boroughs for an additional travel fee (TBD based on location).
While I specialize in the following broad areas of musical study, my specialties are not limited to: General Music, Composition, Arranging, Ear Training, Music History (includes classical, jazz, and world musics), Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet, flugelhorn, and Piano/Keyboards.
I look forward to helping you realize your potential! Let's get started...

About Boyce G.
CloseIn a lesson with me, students get the unique advantage of studying with a musician who not only understands your unique and specific technical challenges, but understands the mental framework through which the process of learning music is done most efficiently. The enjoyment and reward that comes from developing skill on a musical instrument is something that I care deeply about, and something I enjoy passing along to anyone who is interested in adding it to their life. That which motivates you to learn will always be respected and nurtured.
About Boyce
I live in New York City currently, but I am originally from a small town called Tallahassee Florida. In New York I maintain an active career in jazz performance, having appeared on stage at venues such as the Village Vanguard, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, and many more.
I have a bachelor's degree in jazz studies from Florida State University, and I have been studying woodwind instruments since I was very young. Through a wide variety of teachers and mentors of my own, I have developed a teaching style that my students would describe as "adaptable" and "personalized" because I understand that every brain is different, and the way we learn affects the way we play!
