I've been teaching violin for about 6 years and am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance at CU-Boulder. Having taught as a private teacher for younger students as well as a Teaching Assistant for a String Methods class in my undergrad, I am extremely comfortable working with a wide range of ages and skill levels. I teach classical and Suzuki style, as well as basic music theory, note-reading, and other skills based on the student's needs and skill set.

About Ava
A recent Master of Music graduate of University of Colorado Boulder, Ava began her violin studies at the age of six. During her undergraduate degree at Truman State University, Ava was a two-time Gold Medal Concerto Competition finalist and regularly appeared as concertmaster with the Truman State Symphony orchestra, where she has also held the positions of principal second violinist and principal violist.

As an active chamber musician, Ava was the first violinist in Truman State University’s President’s String Quartet, the university’s only highly competitive string chamber ensemble. She toured Italy twice with the President’s String Quartet, performing recitals in 2013 and 2015.

At CU, Ava has served as concert master and principal second violinist of the Eklund Opera Orchestra, principal second violinist of the University of Co
lorado Chamber Orchestra, and as a section violinist with the University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra. During the summer of 2016, she travelled to Italy as part of CU's "Renaissance in the XXI Century" program where she studied with Alberto Bologni and performed a wide variety of chamber music.

Ava is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder under Professor Karoly Schranz. Her past teachers include Harumi Rhodes, Dr. Sam McClure, Julie Lundgren, and Kathy Karpicke.

Kyle is a great teacher. My grandson Franklin has trouble with paying attention, but Kyle was great when it comes to keeping him focused and interested. He has been with Kyle for close to a year now, and even though he is only 8 years old, he has learned a lot! I would highly recommend taking lessons with Kyle. He makes both grandparents and students happy and, my grandson looks forward to lessons every week with him.

I have over 50 years of teaching experience including working with all age groups, and hold two degrees from the College/Conservatory of Music. I have a deep passion for sharing the world of music which encompasses much more than simply learning to play the instrument. This involves integrating pertinent knowledge of music theory and music history into lessons to help students understand what the composer was expressing.

About Barbara
I am an accomplished musician in both violin and piano. I graduated summa cum laude from the College/Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. My passion is in teaching one-on-one to encourage the student's inner passion and self-expression skills which may be more easily expressed through music than language or anything else. I'm hoping to expand my current studio.

Lastly, she is very willing to work with us when we need to change a lesson time due to an occasional conflict.

I am a performer, recording artist and an experienced violin and fiddle teacher since 1995. I am capable of teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. My approach uses many decades of lessons and pedagogue with F.A.S.E. (Foundation of String Education), Suzuki and traditional European methods. What makes my teaching unique is a healthy infusion of improvisation and fiddling.

About Myra
Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Ms. MacLeod has been immersed in music her entire life. At the age of five, she began her musical studies at the South End Music Center. In the 1970's, she began her performance career in the richly creative Cambridge-Boston folk scene. She has performed at weddings, festivals, regional coffee houses, contra dances, and local restaurants, as a solo musician as well as a member of groups such as "Blackstone Cúil," "Riverbend," "Frosty Morn," and "Patchwork."I bring a fusion of styles and techniques to my coaching.

I incorporate the most useful classical practices from traditional European, Suzuki, Bornoff method (Foundation for the Advancement of String Teaching), and guidelines from ASTA (American String Teachers Association) to give my students a solid base of correct posture, full tone,
and confidence with the instrument.

I appreciated Myra’s flexibility in scheduling allowing lessons to be most effective .Myra has a wonderful ability to assess and make recommendations to improve performance. Each lesson comes with a summary of topics covered and techniques to be practiced at home. Lessons were flexible and focused on the things I wanted to learn at the same time providing opportunities to stretch into other areas as well. My goal as a teacher is to provide consistent and positive learning opportunities for each student by:
1. Developing a well-balanced lesson plan that benefits the student.
2. Provide performance opportunities.
3. Encouraging regular practice.
4. Communicating progress with the parent and student.

About Brooke
My main goal as a teacher is for you to have fun while you are working towards your goals! During each lesson I focus on technique and intonation to build a strong musical foundation. I also include resources such as games, songs, and various activities to make lessons enjoyable and educational for all students. The more fun you have while learning your instrument, the more information you will be able to remember later on!

Aside from the fun stuff, I also work on important skills that benefits students inside and outside of lessons. Playing in front of people can be scary, so I work with each student to help them develop their own strategy so they can overcome any existing stage fright. I also work with students on building their showmanship skills to make them feel more confident in performance settings with their instrument.

***
Teacher Responsibility***
My goal is to provide consistent and positive learning opportunities for each student by:
1. Developing a well-balanced lesson plan that benefits the student.
2. Provide performance opportunities. (This may vary for online lessons depending on location.)
3. Encouraging regular practice.
4. Communicating progress with the parent and student.

***Student/Parent Responsibility***
While I will do everything I can to keep your child motivated, I will need consistent help and support from you. This might be the first serious commitment your child has made, and as you know your child will only be as committed as you are. I expect that parents will be supportive in the following ways:

1. Provide an instrument and practice area that is free from distractions.
2. Encourage a consistent practice time and acknowledge their efforts.
3. Be on time for your lesson.
4. Communicate any questions or concerns with me.

***Lesson Details***
For online lessons, I suggest using a quiet space free from distractions. Have a notebook and a pencil handy to write down instructions during your lesson so you can reference it during your weekly practice. Please be on time when logging on for your lesson.

***Lesson Preparation***
Please come prepared. Your lesson is time for instruction, not practice. To make the most out of your lesson time, I suggest setting a regular practice time and stick to it. Always log on to your lesson with your assigned music, instrument tuned, a pencil and trimmed fingernails.

***Weekly Practice***
One of the most common questions I am asked as a teacher is how much a student should practice during the week. Beginning students are expected to practice a minimum of 120 minutes (or two hours) a week. This can be divided into 30 minutes a day for four days a week. I have found that these numbers have provided excellent results for students during the first six months of playing.

***Other Details***
Students are responsible for providing their own instrument and any other required books or accessories. All ages are welcome.

Violin lessons will focus on technique and fundamentals in the context of the repertoire you are learning! You can expect to receive clear practice goals and I encourage a communicative dynamic among teacher and student.

About Patti
I am a professional violinist and violist based in New York City. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance from New York University (with a minor in mathematics!) in 2010 and 2012, and am currently working on my Ph.D in Violin Performance at NYU.

As a teacher, I have taught students of all ages and levels of experience, ranging from beginner students to professional practitioners. I currently teach violin at Western Connecticut State University and New York University, and also maintain a private studio in the tristate area.

I believe that every student is different in how they progress and have a flexible approach to teaching, but do believe that awareness of technique and fundamentals is the key to progress. While working with me, students can expect clear guidelines regarding practice goals for a week,
and a communicative relationship between student and teacher. In an ideal teacher-student relationship, the student should always feel free to express to me if an approach is not working for them, or if they do not understand a concept explained in lessons! I am also willing to work with students regarding repertoire, and have experience with working with differently abled students.

As a performer, I make a point of engaging with a variety of classical and non-classical genres, including rock, pop, and jazz music. I currently play with an indie rock band called OWEL, and have also performed with contemporary music groups Alarm Will Sound, Argento New Music Project, ensemble mise-en, ETHEL, Hotel Elefant, Newspeak, Signal, The Wordless Music Orchestra, with the avant-rock Burning City Orchestra led by Noam Faingold, metal string quartet seven)suns, and the disco band Escort. I have also played in the company of a variety of artists spanning many genres, including Icelandic singer Björk, avant-jazz-funk band Medeski, Martin and Wood, Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead, the band Goldfrapp, Icelandic electronic artist Valgeir Sigurdsson, John Cale from the Velvet Underground, rock band Deep Purple, and Afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllón, in a variety of concert halls, bars, and living rooms, including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Center, Muziekgebouw a’ant Ij in Amsterdam, the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Merkin Hall, Roulette, Issue Project Room, Galapagos, Symphony Space, and Death by Audio.
