I started playing violin at 3 years old. Wichita State University gave me the opportunity to get my Music Ed degree and start teaching lessons. I have taken over 500 lessons myself and played in many heavy gigging bands playing gigs almost every weekend. Improvising, Country, Jazz, and Rock are my specialties but I have played lots of Blues, Funk, and Latin jazz as well.

About Rob

Make sure you contact me about scheduling. I have other students and a job that sometimes changes week to week. I may have other times available. Let me know.

Initially I was a complete beginner. I've been studying with Rob for a couple of months now. I think I'm making good progress and certainly a lot of that is Rob's doing. Very personable and flexible, he's really taught me a lot and is really good at teaching in a way that has me progressing steadily and not being overwhelmed by such a challenging instrument.
Jeff
great first lesson. Personable and informative.
Lin
Identified many of my errors right away, has given instruction on how to correct. Have noticed definite improvement each week, and given new skills each week to practice .(I'm not likely to pass this pattern in the near future!)

My belief is that teacher's goal is to help a student to reveal and develop his/her personality through the music, so the lessons are adjusted for each student's needs individually. At the same time, the basis is a professional approach with detailed instructions, from posture, technique skills, and proper practicing strategies to phrasing and music stylistic features.
I teach classical violin and work with students of all ages/ levels.

About Tatiana

I am a professional violinist and member of several orchestras in Michigan. I studied at St. Petersburg Conservatory and also have a Doctorate degree in violin performance from Michigan State University. My diverse background allows me to combine best features of Russian and American string schools.

I have a lot of experience with the Suzuki method as a teacher and also a player having started with that myself. However unless the player or parent specifies that they want strict Suzuki, I go with my method which involves Suzuki but also other methods. I was not strict Suzuki and it definitely worked for me as well as students of mine!

"I am an adult who wanted to learn an instrument for years, but never had the time to. Coming into the lessons, I had zero musical knowledge. Starting something I knew nothing about was the greatest barrier for me. What I loved about Humberto was how he eased me into learning. He is patient, understanding, and supportive. Would defenitely ask for the lessons again."

"I had the privilege of taking weekly lessons from Marisa for two years as an undergraduate violin performance major. During this time, Marisa taught me so much about musicality, technique, and listening as an advanced violinist. No matter how prepared I was for my lesson, I always left with many new ideas about my music and clear-cut ways in which to accomplish them; Marisa truly taught how to teach myself. Above all, Marisa is a wonderfully kind, intelligent person who helped me find my way in both music and life. Anyone who studies with her would be very fortunate."
