About Jesus

Jesus has more than 20 years experience teaching piano and 10 years teaching the Suzuki piano method, with dozens of his students playing successfully in recitals, competitions, and auditions around the Chicago area.

He completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance with a scholarship from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Il. Renowned Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio and Dr. Ludmila Lazard were his advisers and professors. In addition, during his program at Roosevelt University, Jesus took a course aimed at developing figure base and harpsichord performance with Dr. David Schrader.

In 2012 he was certified piano Suzuki teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Jesus performs solo recitals and lieder by Rachmaninoff, Shubert, and Schumann with his wife the soprano Darina Assenova in festivals such as “Shubert

iade”, which is organized by Pianoforte Foundation in Chicago and Make Music Chicago.

He often performs in Cultural Festivals in Mexico and United States and has performed with major orchestras as a soloist and as accompanist.

All his piano students are active as performers. Jesus always encourages them to perform in public, looking for piano festivals, competitions, recitals, auditions and any opportunities where they can showcase their talent. His students have been accepted in pre-college music schools in Chicago.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the basic piano technique skills when I start with a new student, it includes good posture of the body, good hand shape, firm fingertips, loose arm weight, good position of each finger, and flexible wrist. I always look for a rich tone production when playing each key of the keyboard in order to create a beautiful musical discourse throughout the piano piece.

When the student is from 3 to 6 years old I use the Suzuki method. When the student is older than 6 I combine the traditional and Suzuki method having great results with the student's performances.

My Philosophy: All my students learn to play piano in an artistry, confident, and joyful way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with upright piano, couches, bookshelves, etc. Parents can sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide copies of some piano works. But I also expect my students to buy their own books and have their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
For beginners, I use either the Faber or Thomson method. I can teach the Suzuki method too. I specialize in Classical music, but I can also teach pop music for piano.

Jesus has been really helpful in improving my technique and introducing me to challenging pieces. I have been playing piano for about 14 years and took a long break from working on my music. At first, I was skeptical about taking lessons again, but I decided to start roughly two months ago. Since starting lessons with Jesus, I'm playing pieces that I would have never chosen for myself on my own and tackling them even faster than I thought I could. Aside from learning new, advanced pieces, he is really helping me with my technique as a performer. Jesus fosters a welcoming environment and I genuinely look forward to my lesson each week. If you're an older student like me interested in piano, I highly recommend Jesus!

My girls started taking lessons from Mr. Garcia at age 4. He is an excellent instructor and keeps lessons and weekly practice assignments fun and challenging. He uses a combination of methods to best suit the interests of each of my daughters. They really look forward to their weekly lessons. I have seen significant progress in their piano skills. Mr, Garcia is very good at acknowledging their accomplishments which is extremely important for young, beginning piano players. I highly recommend him.

Whatever a student's avenue they want to take, I am confide

Music theory is the grammar of music. Think of it this way: could you read a book in a language you don’t understand? Music theory teaches you to understand the language of rock songs and concept albums, sonatas and symphonies. This is an essential skill for all musicians.

The first step is to master the fundamentals: notes, intervals, key signatures, time signatures, clefs, terminology and correct notation. Students then learn rhythm; the structure of chords; harmonic progression and syntax; cadences; and phrasing.

If a student is interested in classical music, study will include the construction and creation of melody; counterpoint; form and structure; solfege; and the analysis of each of these aspects of music in the actual repertoire of classical music.

In all cases, particular attention will be paid to understanding the sound and meaning of music.

Experience playing an instrument is highly encouraged, although not required. Ear training is an ideal pairing to get the

About Brendan

I excel at the process of teaching and guiding students to get results. I know how to relate to students in different ways to help them understand problems and find solutions. I understand how frustrating and mentally exhausting practicing can be, and I know what to teach and when to teach it. I also understand that every student fits music into their life in a different way.

When studying with me a student can expect to be shown best practices in technique and musicianship, patient answers to questions, and to have time to absorb new information. Students will never be condescended to or belittled. Music is about adding joy to your life, and I can help.

I have studied nearly every style of music from medieval chant to Indian classical music. For over twenty years I have taught students in guitar, songwriting, classical composition,

music theory, and applied musicianship at all levels from beginners to graduate courses and students.

L
"Gifted teacher with amazing skill and knowledge

Our experience with Nick was outstanding. Nick gave our son multiple years of guitar lessons, as well as
music theory and composition instruction. This was while our student was in a charter high school for music, and playing for hours a day. Yet, Nick's lessons were the ones he looked forward to the most. Nick treated him not only like a valued student but also as a capable musician. Guitar was not our son's first instrument, yet Nick never forgot that he needed to learn some things as a beginner and others by building on skills of an already playing musician. The individualization was the best we have seen in any music teacher. Nick was able to take him far very quickly too. And, they had a great time. The in-person lessons and Skype lessons were at an equally high level. Each lesson was personalized to our student's needs at that moment in time. Nick respected his needs in school to be working on a specific composition or learning a specific skill or even the need to be flexible with traveling. Our student has gone on to play his own music, as well as covers, at large and small venues in multiple states. He still uses the warm-ups Nick gave him to keep his speed up. Thanks Nick!"

By Jessica Dais

A knowledge of music theory is absolutely indispensable to musicians. For beginners, it can seem intimidating, but experienced musicians will attest that theory is well worth the effort needed to master it. While you can certainly acquire proficiency on an instrument without a knowledge of theory, you’ll miss out on the depth of understanding that it provides. Music theory is also extremely useful for musicians. Think of music theory as your tool box. It enables you to analyze, tra …
