I am an experienced teacher of 16 years! I thrive on finding each student's specific learning style and cultivating a positive and productive learning experience within that. I apply consistent and focused energy in getting my students to strive for their best, and I aim to inspire them to respond in turn with the same focused and accurate effort.
I teach using a modified Suzuki method. This means that, while I do subscribe to Suzuki's "mother tongue" approach, I also believe that education on an instrument requires literacy from a young age. I have discovered in my years of teaching that an early ability to read notes and understand musical theory and form is not a handicap to a student's development, but rather a benefit to the student gaining a richer, fuller understanding of their instrument and music in general.
I believe that every person can be taught, that parental involvement is crucial in the development of musicians from a young age through the high school years, and ...

I teach my students proper body posture which strengthens the core. Bowing excercise and scales begin each lesson before me move on to music. I encourage students to eat before the lesson and also excercise which can help alleviate nervousness.

My teaching style is fun and relaxed! I focus first and foremost on teaching the enjoyment of music, and let everything else develop from there.
During lessons I teach sheet music literacy, violin skills and techniques, music theory, and composition. Sheet music is an important part of playing the violin, so we begin working with it from day one. While teaching new skills and techniques I love to explain why we do things the way we do, and give examples of how it can improve one's sound. This helps make the "boring stuff" much more interesting and fun. In addition, I like to include theory and composition because they wonderfully round out students' musicianship. Theory is key to understanding why music works the way it does, and enables students to collaborate with others in a multitude of settings. Composition is often my students' favorite part of the lesson, because it empowers them and allows them to explore and be creative, while building confidence and technical skills.

Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. I teach beginning and intermediate violin students. I studied violin at the Community Music Center in Portland, OR. My degree is BM in cello performance from Portland State University 1993, and I have studied (and/or had master classes) with Stephanie McDougal, Hamilton Cheifetz, Yo

I've been taking violin lessons from Marc for several weeks and he is a great teacher. He has a low pressure teaching style that I really like because I get nervous when I play in front of other people. He seems very knowledgeable in both the technical aspects of the violin as well as the music theory. He is quick to return emails and is always happy to answer my questions. I've taken other instrument lessons in the past and Marc is by far the best teacher I've had. I'm really enjoying my lessons with Marc and I hope to continue for a long time to come."

Professional and experienced teacher, very flexible and attentive."
