I started learning piano by the age of 4. Started composition by the age of 5. At the age of 12, I started guitar and never turned back. Music was always the ULTIMATE escape. To me there's nothing that compares to the feeling I get after completing a song, or the rush of a good performance. I decided that I'd rather do nothing else in life but music. After high school I went to the famed Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA., where I was taught by the most amazing musicians I've ever known. Some of the teachers who influenced me were Dan Gilbert from the Guitar World magazine, and David Oakes who trained with Andre Segovia (famed classical guitarist). After that, I continued with my Bachelors in Music at ENMU. My influences are a wide range. I love any music with shred guitar. Anything virtuosic is what I love. I enjoy playing everything
from Latin, classical, blues, all the way to heavy metal. I have a lot of on stage experience that has served me well, and my mission is to give back the inspiration that has been my love for music.

*** Lesson Details ***
The most important thing with any instrument is that you're enjoying what your doing. If you're not having fun with guitar, then you're probably not going to stick with it. I teach beginning to advanced guitar and my students really enjoy the lesson plans. My lessons vary from student to student depending on what they want to accomplish, and what they need to succeed. After the student reaches a certain level I get them to play with other musicians. Sometimes I'll bring in my drummer and hop on the bass so the student can get the feel of playing with a full band! I expect a lot from students and they seem to have no problem delivering,

5 star teacher!!

Brandon is personable, knowledgeable, talented and very funny! Not only does he prepare great lessons that are suited for me and what I want to learn, but he also brings new styles and techniques that challenge me and broaden my interests!

Brandon is one of those people that you instantly feel comfortable with and my lessons are fun. I feel like we are just hanging out playing music instead of sitting through a mundane lesson.

Can't say enough great things about him! He's like the Beethoven of guitar!

I WANT TO LEARN IT ALL. Brandon is super easy to work with. He has the lesson plan put together ahead of time ready for the session. I have a basic understanding of music and guitar. Brandon is by far, the best guy around to help me delevop and get me to the level I want to be at.
Very patient, very fun. I think I will have to get him and his family up to my place for a cookout and roller coasters (I live near cedar point, the roller coaster capital of the world). We will definitely become friends. Great guy! Great teacher! This will be fun!

I've been teaching both piano and voice for almost 40 years. I taught elementary vocal/general/choral music in our local public school system for 32 years. I added teaching privately about 10 years later. I work with students ages 3 and up for piano, and ages 8 and up for voice. I welcome students of all levels of experience from the earliest beginner to the most advanced. The lessons are largely focused on technique, theory, and developing skills, and can be adapted to incorporate each students goals. I encourage my students to perform in various talent shows, and other avenues as they become available. We have a Recital every May, and all students are guided through the development of their selected music to take it from the beginning stages to having it ready to perform.

Hi! My name is Janet, and I would like to be your new music lessons teacher! As a quick biography, I have 20+ years of experience teaching both piano and voice lessons. I have taught piano students from as young as 5 years old up to a wonderful lady who was a grandmother many times over, and voice students from 10 years old up to adults. I have taught students of all ability levels, from the most basic beginner to very advanced performers. I welcome you to come to my home studio. I have both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in Music from the University of Indianapolis. I retired in 2009 from teaching in the Indianapolis area public schools after 32 years of teaching elementary vocal/general/choral music. During the last 17 years of that time I was also teaching privately during the evenings and on Saturday.

As a student taking lessons with me, I will always put your desires as a musician first, and consider them to be the most important factor in guiding the progress of your lessons. While I will make basic assignments for you to practice for your next lesson, I am always open to including music that you would like to learn. If there is a particular style of music that you would like to study, or even a particular piece of music that you want to learn, please feel free to mention that to me, and I will do my best to find that music to add to your lessons. I will work with you to find the most convenient time for your lessons. Lessons are given in my home studio. I use a variety of methods, mostly based on the goals of the students. For piano students, I prefer the Bastien Piano Basics method books. For voice student, I use a combination of methods developed by several different voice instructors.

Students who study with me are taught how to read music. Although I do teach some by ear, I mostly enforce the reading of rhythms and notes on a page. I do this so that they all of my students can be as prepared as possible if they choose music an area of music as a career.

Those who study mallet percussion with me get a chance to go more in depth with music theory as I incorporate in in each lesson as the student learns either an exercise or a solo piece.

About Alex
Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until 2009. During spring semester of 2009 he studied briefly under Richard Walker at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). In the fall of that year he then transferred to Butler University for an academic year and studied under Craig Hetrick and Jon Crabiel.

Beginning in 2011 Alex began studying attending University of Indianapolis and is currently studying under Paul Berns as well as Art Reiner. In addition to studying with them he has also went back to continue to study with his mentor Chad Kohler. In the time since Alex gr
aduated high school, he has been continuously presented with teaching opportunities. At the time, though, music was not looking like the best course of action for him. With the aid of Chad Kohler, Alex then began getting more involved with teaching percussion. Alex eventually went on to arranging his own parts for his students, as well as composing original percussion ensemble pieces. Alex is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Music Technology at IUPUI.

In the time since he has been out of high school, he has taught at a number of schools including the Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center, North Putnam Jr./Sr. High School, Broad Ripple Magnet School for the Arts & Humanities, and Lawrence Central. He has also taught at Arlington High School and Short Ridge High School.

When it comes to teaching music, what is known to be as the “Holy Trinity” comes to mind. While teaching I personally believe that it is important to challenge students just enough so that they are not discouraged and are still able to have fun.

The Holy Trinity plays a big role in this. What it consists of is embracing your students from all angles. This would be from ensembles and private lessons, which in turn then encourage them to practice. Ensemble, private lessons, and practicing are the three main categories that make up the “Holy Trinity.” And in using this, you can also be more involved with your students as well. It is always a good idea be friend your students as well and not just be the “teacher.” There is a great quote that goes like this, “They will never care about how much you know, until they know how much you care.” In which case has been proven to be very true time and time again.

It is important as a teacher to be able to inspire your students and to encourage them. Which is why I think it is important to be a good friend as well to your students. This way a kind of trust is formed and in turn can easily lead to the success of a music program. Also I do believe that it is important to expose students to as many forms of music as possible. This way they are not just stuck in one kind of mind set and if they choose to go into music for their career, then they have many different experiences they can pull and relate from. Plus they will also have some more knowledge of different cultures and music genres that can help not only create better music but also be more overall worldly in their personal life out side of music. Being able to learn about music is very important, and can easily impact a student’s life in many different ways that most subjects just do not have the capability to. This is what I believe about learning music and why I also love to teach it. I want my students to be able to have all the same great experiences I have had and more. Which is why I personally believe so heavily in a good music education.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although the approach to teaching that I use comes across as being pretty laid back, I do expect what some might consider to be a lot out of my students. This is because I want to make sure that my students will be successful as musicians.

While a student is studying with me; they will learn about percussion from multiple angles. They will learn and be able to understand many basic music theory terms and principles. They will also learn how each percussion instrument is tied to one another in technique and how to easily transition from instrument to instrument.

Depending on the age of the student, after about three months of studying with me, the student will know a few major scales, most of the standard American rudiments, and some basic drum set concepts. After 6 months, the student will know all 12 major scales, be familiar with all 40 snare drum rudiments, and know a good portion of basic drum set.

Please keep in mind that results may vary depending on the age of the student and the amount of practicing they do on their own. Results also depend upon whether or not they are practicing correctly, which is something they will also learn how to do with me.

In-studio lessons in basement with acoustic drum set. Street parking or drive way. Seating available for parents.

Lessons at the High School will be in the band room with their equipment.

If I teach in a student's home, there must be a piano or keyboard on the first floor of the home and no more than a few steps to get to the entrance of the home. For lessons in your home, you will need to pay an additional fee for my travel expenses. I teach sightreading, rhythm, musical expression, technique and music theory. The student will need either a piano or keyboard available for practicing between lessons. Titles of method books to be purchased will be given to the parent at the first lesson. Andrew is a dynamic educator with years of experience teaching students of all ages. To the extent of what I learned in my experience, Andrew is a great percussion teacher for students looking to join a band or marching band. He obviously had a great amount of knowledge and experience with the instrument itself but also the teaching of it. By the end of the first lesson we had already moved to patterns with 8 strikes on each hand and was presented with an arsenal of other exercises for afterwards to find a rate of improvement when given time. He is a very patient teacher and is sensitive to mistakes and which ones to focus on. I could safely recommend him to any of my friends who are also into percussion, and can speak from experience that any nervousness of getting a new teacher quickly dissolves after the first lesson. Great teacher.

I've studied piano and other instruments for 30 years, have been teaching music for 20, and have been a full time professional musician and music teacher for 11 years.

As a musician who was raised on classical piano but has also spent his life playing in bands, jamming, and composing in several genres, I believe that a well-rounded musical education is not only practical, but that it brings out the most enjoyment in music.

I also believe in teaching students whatever they love whether it's classical, rock, pop, jazz, world music, or a mix of everything! The more they love it, the more they will practice, and in turn the more they will love how they have improved - a circle of awesomeness!

As a professional musician, I play over 130 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic Rock group The Whiskeydicks, a
s the touring pianist for classical crossover group Vivace, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the lead singer-guitarist-pianist-composer for my own symphonic-rock-fusion group, The Living. I've also toured extensively in Europe as keyboardist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker.

My compositions have been performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Ad Mare Wind Quintet, Vivace, The Living, The Whiskeydicks and cellist-singer-songwriter Cris Derksen.

I have a B.Mus in Piano and Music Composition from The University of British Columbia. I'm an IVA Certified Level I Voice Instructor and have studied Vocals with John Henny, Jeffrey Skouson, Guy Babusek, and Spencer Welch; piano with Terence Dawson, David Vandereyk, and Ross Taggart; composition with Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, and Armanini; drums with Jay Deachman and Morgan Childs; bass with David Spidel; and accordion with Jelena Milojevic.

I've just moved to LA from Vancouver where I had about 40 students, so this is the time to sign up as I have room for new students for the first time in years!

Patient and talented instructor- Mike is able to easily listen to me play and make personalized suggestions. I've had 3 lessons as a complete novice and know I'm on my way to being able to play in public. I'd recommend him to anyone learning a musical instrument, either as a beginner trying to learn the ropes or for more experienced players looking to brush up.
