I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain everything that I am teaching.

About Paul
I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative pitch will make my students improve quicker. I am a
lso a very skilled sight reader and can recognize key signatures and musical notation. I’ve also been playing electric bass guitar for 13 years now and have the same skill set as my guitar playing. In fact I am hired to perform more often as a bassist than a guitarist.
I went to Columbia College between 2000-2003 and I completed a Bachelor Arts in Music, Concentration: Instrument Performance.
I also went to Harper College between 1997-2000 and I completed an Associates in Fine Arts of Music.

By far the best teacher I have ever had. Paul makes lessons engaging, and his wealth of knowledge never comes off as elitist. He explains complicated theory in a practical way for anyone to understand. If I wasn't leaving Chicago I would have signed up for ten more lessons. Ask him about the own music he makes with his band. He's a super talented guy!!!

Paul showed a real instinct for assessing where I was skill-wise, and exactly what I needed to learn. He's also patient, good natured, and very pleasant to learn with. I feel that I've found the perfect teacher for me. (I'm 64, by the way!)

About Walter
I have a natural ear for music since I was a child. My sight reading improved when I attended Shaw University. I improved on the trombone and trumpet in college. My Music Theory developed with learning and playing the piano.

Basically I provide a lesson plan based on Individual student's needs. For example if a student has a problem with the tonation of their sound. Then I would provide a step by step process on developing a better sound.

I am a teacher who teaches so that the student can understand and learn. If the student does not learn then that doesn't make me a teacher. My students success is a reflection of me.

I take pride in my students and their passion for music! To me, learning how to play music is almost identical to speaking, and I use that duality in a unique approach to help my students grow. Above all it's about having fun! I need to not only be your drum instructor, but also your music teacher, your English teacher, your math teacher, and your personal trainer! All of these subjects have an influence in your musicianship and will help you have a greater understanding of music in general.

About Andy
Hello everyone! I am a drum teacher and performer from the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana area and am new to takelessons.com. I am a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, the Percussive Arts Society and the Jazz Education Network, and take my students very seriously. I have learned from many great musicians and top teachers including Tom Hipskind, Frank Donaldson, Ruben Alvarez, Chris Coleman, Peter Erskine, and several others. Above all, I want my students to have fun and I feel that I bring a unique approach to help any student grow into the musician they would like to be. Currently, I am teaching about 20 students a week, and gig out 3-5 times a week, but I am looking to expand my business. Any student under age 6 needs to have a free consultation/meeting to see how well they can hold interest through the full lesson.

Music theory is hard to grasp onto sometimes. I will give you basic steps to help you understand this ever expanding world. This could be learning how to read and understand the staff and its notes, or the complexities of secularism and counterpoint.

About Sebastian
Playing and learning an instrument is beneficial to ones being because it is a great way to express ones self and it's an excellent stress reliever. It's also an amazing feeling playing an instrument you love to listen to.

Learning any instrument could be daunting at first because there is so much to learn and without any help, could feel overwhelming and hopeless. Do not fret because I am here to assist you!
I have studied many music genres all across the board and have a professional knowledge and comprehension of the theory encompassed behind them. Every lesson is crafted for each student in specific areas they have interest in while being done at the students own pace.

My background history:

I immersed myself in music at a very young age, studying classical piano and theory. In my teenage years I took the initiative to le
arn guitar and began by purchasing my own guitar and books and taught myself to play electrical and classical guitar. I followed my passion and continued my studies at Columbia College and graduated with a bachelors degree in Instrumental Performance.

Post-graduation, I have experienced playing in multiple bands, performing in concerts, teaching piano and guitar ranging in all levels at a music center and private home and enjoying some traveling.

Everything I have learned will be reflected in my lesson methodology and will help you learn to play proficiently in a timely manner. I look forward to meeting new prospective students while having fun teaching them music.

I have taught music theory on all levels from beginner to advanced students, including composition and arranging at the college level. I enjoy creating harmonies and progressions especially for piano and keyboard learners, so they can understand chord symbols on charts.

About Paul
I have my bachelors degree in sacred music, my masters degree in music performance, and my doctorate in worship studies. I am an experienced music teacher with great interpersonal skills and enjoy creating a fun and meaningful learning environment for all ages of students. I teach music theory concepts as I teach music, and I also enjoy sharing the history of music and famous composers. Students should not just learn notes, but they should also learn about the wonderful story of music I have taught private clarinet, flute, saxophone, voice, and piano lessons for many years with great success. Many of my former students write to me periodically to tell me what they are doing in music. I look forward to working with many more students as we embark on the journey of learning music, pieces, history, and theory together. Students will look ba

I teach Music Theory to all my students in their lessons, but if a student wants to particularly focus on theory and composition, welcome!

About Cathy
Hello! My name is Cathy, or as most people call me by my nickname, Kasia. I graduated Depaul University with a Music Composition degree with a focus on piano and harp and am currently studying Music Education at St. Xavier University. I have been teaching piano for over 7 years now. I enjoy teaching kids the art of music because it is what makes up everything we have in this world. I teach piano technique along with the art of piano performance and music theory for my students to understand what music is and what it is made up of. I make sure they understand what they are playing in order to understand the art itself. I am a very motivated and inspired person and the great connection that I make with my students is that I inspire them and they inspire me. I open their minds towards creativity and discipline. I have been playing the piano
professionally for over 13 years now, I am also a classical harpist and I have my own musical duet called Magical Keys.
I teach the way my students are most comfortable with and I teach what fits their personality.

I am comfortable working with students on basic music theory, classical, and jazz. We will use theory to help your knowledge/comfortability on a specific instrument, and/or to accompany your understanding of music you enjoy listening to.

About Hunter
My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the ideas of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.

I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.

Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.

A grounded and comprehensive approach to the organization of notes from both a functional, in-the-moment perspective (my experience as an improvising instrumentalist) and an executive, top-down perspective (my experience as a composer for large-ensemble)

About Matthew
I'm a multi-instrumentalist and composer with two degrees earned concurrently from Indiana University--one a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of Arts and Sciences, the other a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the internationally renowned Jacobs School of Music.

Upon arriving in Chicago, I have taken on a role as the Director of Music at Marquette Park, where I serve as something between an artist-in-residence and a band director. On occasion, I travel out to New York City to take part in the BMI Jazz Composers' Workshop.

My instrumental ability has allowed me to take professional tours both nationally and internationally as a sideman (Durand Jones and the Indications, Indiana Jazz Exchange), and my writing for large ensemble has been featured by multiple groups (Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, Liberation Music Coll
ective, BMI Jazz Composer's Orchestra). My acumen as an instructor and music director has allowed me to become the Director of Music at Marquette Park on Chicago's South Side, providing city-subsidized instruction to a largely under-served population.

I'm very passionate about helping people realize their own internal goals, no matter how far off those goals may seem. I already feel we can work together to help you achieve them, and we haven't even met yet! My mix of academic training, professional experience, and natural affability make the learning experience easy, stress-free and fun.

I can teach you how to:
1) play trumpet
2) play trombone
3) play drums
4) understand and internalize music theory
5) improvise, from absolute beginner-level to professional-tier tips and tricks
6) write music for all sizes of ensembles (solo singer-songwriter to 18-piece big band)

Styles I've got professional experience playing: rock, funk, soul, R&B, jazz (combo), jazz (big band), and classical.

Let's learn together!
