I have been teaching piano to students of all ages for the past 26 years. I studied piano at St. Bonaventure University under Laura Peterson. I have accompanied many in talent shows, and competitions. I presently play the piano at our church.
I have taught students that have gone on to higher learning in piano. Some of my students have competed in nationwide festivals and placed well. They have entered local and statewide contests. They placed well in their categories.
I believe that each student should have goals for their talent. I want to work with the student's goal to achieve their very best. I believe each student is a unique individual who will become a performer according to the practice that they put into it

ch beginning student will receive a curriculum that fits them best. I use a variety of curriculum. If the student already has begun in a curriculum we can continue to use that one if it fits their goals appropriately.
Each student will learn how to play the piano and the theory behind the music. We will do games to reinforce the lesson. We also learn scales and arpeggios and chords and how they fit together.
I expect at least 5 days of practice to progress consistently at their ability level. They will keep track of practice in an online journal.
Usually if the student follows the recipe of consistent practice they should finish each year's curriculum as scheduled. I include motivational activities we do as a group once a unit is finished. Some students finish before one year is up and are able to start the next level which is very exciting for them.
I encourage them to play for variety shows, fairs, church and other public places to help them with performance .
Its great to see their faces shine and the confidence they show once the student connects with the piano and learns their first song.
The other exciting thing I love to see is when a student comes to a difficult challenge and we break it down so they can actually learn the difficulty and experience success!!!
Wow what a motivation!!!
The student then learns that they can get over hurdles not only in piano but in life too.

Renee is a very enthusiastic, kind teacher, and has a way of breaking things down to where they can be understood. She is very sensitive to the student, so a lesson is not generic- she pays attention to the student, not just the books. A great teacher!

Hi, I am a multi-international prize winner and a dedicated teacher. A piano performance graduate of Manhattan School of Music and University of Illinois, I have collaborated as soloist with major orchestras in China, USA, Europe and South America for fifteen years.

In the summer of 2006, I made my critically acclaimed European debut at the International Piano Festivals held in Spain and Canary Islands. In 2008, I was selected by famous New York critics David Dubal to perform in his lecture concert series, live broadcast on WQXR. From October of 2008 to July 2009, I won five international competition awards around globe, which led me to several concert tours in the following years. Magic piano teacher

I have known Jingjing personally through his performances for five years and recently my 6-year old son started having lessons with him. At first, my son wasn't really be able to sit tight for 10 minutes but after a few lessons, he could concentrate for 25-30 minutes. Jingjing's lessons are magical! And my son enjoys the lessons now. He already played a few folk songs and was encouraged to compose his own music at the piano. I really appreciate Jingjing's effort!

Great mentor!

I've worked with JINGJING WANG for 3 years and he's been always reliable, patient and creative. He taught me many different ways to practice and it was such an incredible experience. Now I am a piano teacher myself and I will keep learning from him.

Studying at the college level taught me a lot about what not to do as a teacher. The material is already difficult enough, so why would I be difficult with you?

I strive to be more of a mentor and friend rather than taskmaster. However, I do require structure and commitment to getting better. My curriculum will revolve around you and your needs with added material that I feel will help you succeed.

I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Doctor Aszodi is a teacher with over a decade's experience and also has a serious career as a solo vocalist. A first lesson will always begin with getting to know each other. Students can bring in songs they want to learn and we work on them together. I couldn't be happier in working with Jessica as my vocal teacher!

She is a wonderful coach and I have enjoyed my time so far working with her. I've been to 3 other vocal teachers in Chicago over the years, and she is by far the best. She is the first teacher I have been to in years who has helped me grow as a performer and help me see noticeable results.

First and foremost, Jessica is able to teach the correct techniques of signing and she brings this to the forefront. She is clearly very knowledgeable about the physical aspects of great singing and clearly explains and shows how everything within the body works together to create sound. She is very creative in recommending exercises and things to practice in order to improve overall technique and capabilities.

Don't let the technical approach fool you, though; Jessica is extremely expressive and has a real passion for singing and helping others sing to the best ability. She has a wide repertoire and can teach music of all different genres and styles, making it fun along the way (whether classical, jazz, modern, show tunes, opera, etc.). She provides in-the-moment feedback too help push to make pieces performance ready.

Finally, she is a great overall performance coach, providing recommendations on ways to calm nerves, act with a piece, etc. and has some great tips and perspective on helping prepare for an audition.

I would highly recommend Jessica as a teacher.

Jessica Aszodi is a phenomenal singing instructor. She is great at identifying the root causes of vocal issues, and she provides the feedback necessary to address those particular issues. A beginner may know what a quarter note is, or how to find the treble F_A_C_E, but that doesn't really count much. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Music Theory lessons help you understand the math of how scales and chords work, and why Middle C is NOT the middle of the piano. If you already know what a French sixth chord is, look for a more advanced theory teacher.

If you want to learn how to play chords by ear on the piano but you don't have an acceptable keyboard, take Music Theory.

If you care how and why music is built, I look forward to teaching you. From absolute basics to assistance in college theory 101, I'm good at helping to make sense out of the seemingly nonsensical. You don't have to have a piano to learn theory, but it's better if you do. You can start learning beginning theory on a cheap plastic recorder. How should an adult begin private music lessons? First, decide why you want to spend the money, and what you expect to get for your money. Second, plan how you will manage practicing time and location. Third, find a teacher who is experienced and supporting enough to adjust goals to fit your aspirations and purposes without diluting the minimum standards of traditional artistic education. If you're lucky, you'll find one that keeps prices low and schedules flexible.

Armed with a Coe College Bachelor of Music and a Performance Certificate in Vocal Performance from 1981, I (Miss Melodie F.) chose to work in Costa Rica 1982-1984 before calling Chicago home in 1986. My performances have usually be
en of scored acoustic vocal and choral soprano in mainly traditional formats. I teach private lessons in classical vocal technique from a body awareness perspective, how to sight-read keyboard scores, and music theory translated into something that makes sense.

Consider private singing and voice, music theory, or piano lessons with me. You should sign up for music theory lessons unless you either want to do the physical work it takes to be a better singer, or if you own a "real" piano. Music theory lessons are the most flexible option for general curiosity. The amount of time you should set aside for practicing is an individual estimate. Music Theory assignments should take maybe 45min 3 days a week to accomplish well, but singing or piano should be practiced a minimum of 30-60min 4 or 5 days a week.

Approaching vocal technique from a physical perspective allows us to discover the student's unique and true voice. Reading paper piano music at first sight means you can play it without knowing the song. Music theory is essential to understanding how and why the art works the way it does. Most students need help ditching the confusing silliness they've already been exposed to, and putting together the pieces of the numbers puzzle we call melody, harmony, and rhythm.

Why sing or play piano? Do you want improved balance, posture, relaxation, abdominal strength, confidence, cultural awareness, emotional expression, memory support, and stress relief? You'd be surprised how many people take lessons just to feel better. I can't guarantee you'll have the same results, but I promise you'll know if you want to pay me more money or not after about five lessons.

Label me Traditional, or Classical, or even Persnickety, but we all transcend labels. I can perform opera, simplify unifying concepts, teach folk singing, direct a church choir, suggest country repertoire, coach performance charisma, and even officiate a marriage ceremony as a Dudeist Priest. I also bake a mean pie.

Complete beginners are welcome in all areas. Advanced lessons are available for voice only. In my studio I teach adults only. Singing and voice lessons have minimum 45min duration. Prices for lessons at my studio are $30 for 30min, $41 for 45min, and $50 for 60min. Online lessons, available for singing and theory but not piano, are the same price. Schedule-As-You-Go lessons with no recurring schedule slot are an option, if you prefer that to taking a lesson the same time every single week.

My teaching studio is a residential office on a high second floor walk-up near the intersection of Chicago and Ashland. I might be able to travel within East Village / Ukrainian Village / Wicker Park / Noble Square for an additional $15 travel fee. If I travel to your location, we can negotiate younger ages and group fees.

What do you want to learn? As partners, the student and I build a plan, balancing current aspirations with proven methods. I work with the paper music and workbooks you already own, and TAILOR THE LESSONS TOWARD PRACTICAL VALUE. On the other hand, I believe I have an ethical responsibility to provide a minimum of classical instruction.

Upfront deal breakers:
• Communication outside of lesson time will be mainly internet and email. The email address in your profile must be a valid form of official business communication.
• Students may not bring pets, children, or guests to the lesson. A quietly observing adult guest is welcome with 48-hour notice.
• My students know if they use too much fragrance, whether it be laundry scent boosters or hair treatments, they may be refused entrance into my studio. It's a big deal.
• You pay for any lessons not canceled or rescheduled before the 24-hour deadline, whether you attend or not. Do not be near me when you are contagiously ill. Ask me to forgive late cancellations caused by true emergencies, but realize I don’t have to.
• If you are a singing student, you need a place where you can practice. Prior to your first cancellation deadline, you must read the "Your First Singing Lesson" section found on each Singing or Voice Subject Page.
• If you want to learn how to read keyboard scores or understand how to play keyboard by ear, sign up for Music Theory. If you don’t have regular access to something that can legally be called a piano, including weighted keys and a damper pedal, sign up for Music Theory. Repeat: if you can’t practice on a real piano, don’t take Piano lessons. Music Theory lessons will probably teach you what you want to learn, anyway.

So far I've only had one lesson with Melodie and she really cares to help you achieve what you're trying to accomplish. We went through a few things such as posture, how to breathe, humming, vowels, position of tongue and other things. About myself: I don't know how to sing and this is my first singing lesson.

My lessons with Melodie have been great! She is extremely knowledgeable. I'm a new piano player, and she has been very patient with me as we work our way through the basics. She is great at explaining the theory side in a way I can understand. And the out of class work she suggests not only drives home what we worked on in the lesson, but it also has me playing some basic songs...which is encouraging and keeps practice fun!

Most recently, he performed at the JEN conference in New Orleans, where he performed with Howard Levy, one of the worlds greatest Harmonic players.
He has also performed many times at the Jazz Showcase and the world renowned Auditorium Theatre with many of the combos at CCPA.
He has had the opportunity to study with some of Chicago's best musicians, such as Ruben Alvarez, Henry Johnson, Paul Wertico, Paulinho Garcia, Cheryl Wilson, and T
om Garling. He is currently taking private lessons with both Scott Mason and Marlene Rosenberg.
Matt is also confident in teaching basic piano skills as well as jazz piano chord theory and improvisation.
Besides jazz and classical, Matt plays a lot of blues, rock n roll and funk on the bass guitar with a band known as Zoofunkyou, where he has played shows at Chicago's House of Blues, Double Door, Metro and many more. (zoofunkyou.com)

My first lesson was great. Mr. Paul was very patient and judged my skill level before making a lesson plan. Initially I was nervous, because I have never taken lessons before, but that quickly went away. I can definitely tell that he knows his stuff when it comes to teaching. He a great teacher and conversationalist.

Paul was very pleasant. He thoroughly explained things to my daughter in a manner that she could understand. He listened to her play and they also played together.

This was her first flute lesson with Paul, but she's already looking forward to the next lesson.

About Hunter
My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the idea of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.

I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.

Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.
