When I was 16 years old, I attended a pop music concert and the band had a cello. Hearing that beautiful and deep sound paralyzed me. I was delighted and knew from that moment that I wanted to start taking lessons, learn how to play, and become a cellist. It was love at first sight!
I'm from Portugal. I was pursuing a DMA in cello performance and I did a minor degree in cello pedagogy. I have been teaching for around 12 years (students of all ages and levels).

Rochelle helped me get reacquainted with the cello after a 22 year hiatus. She is patient and focuses on tone and technique. Her musical knowledge is apparent as she structures her lessons around skill sets that are in need of fine tuning. Her ability to pick up on these skills sets is what makes her a great teacher.

My 9 yr old daughter began cello lessons with Quinn about 2 weeks before lockdown started. I was worried that online lessons wouldn't work out, but Quinn has been amazing. She's great at explaining everything so that my daughter understands, and she pushes just enough to keep her interested without being overwhelmed. She also answers questions promptly by email when any problems arise. I can't recommend her highly enough!

"Someone I trust recommended Lenna to me for a cello teacher - I am an adult beginner and I really knew nothing at all about how to play or read music.
Lenna was the most patient, understanding and fun teacher I could have asked for. She understood what I needed and got me from barely able to hold the bow to playing Rigoletto in front of a small audience in 6 months! THAT is no small feat. She loves playing, she loves teaching and she understands the human condition. A very good combination indeed. I highly recommend you hire her as your cello teacher, or your child's cello teacher, or your next door neighbor's cello teacher."

"Anna is a wonderful teacher. She allows me as a parent (and encourages) to attend lessons so i can be her proxy during the week to reinforce lessons taught; this helps with continuous week to week progress. She demands a lot of my child in terms of warm-ups drills, site reading, rhythm, intonation, and sound. She is rigorous in terms of proper technique, training, and demands playing "beautifully" (with emotion). When things get too tough she takes a step back and gets back to the basics, focusing on advancing through a piece note by note, measure by measure. The end result is fantastic and often get featured in concert performances several times a year. My child has grown tremendously since starting with Ms. Anna; he had a previous teacher and picked up a lot of bad habits that we had to engineer out. He now is playing at a high level as a 10 year old having been with Ms. Anna for ~2 years. He has grown through each piece, taking his time. There is no pressure to move onto new pieces until each piece has been mastered. His maturity, self-confidence and work ethic have all grown because of cello. It has been a tremendous pleasure to learn from Ms. Anna, not to mention see her perform in the San Diego symphony. She is a true professional who understands how to work with kids but also pull the best out of them!"

"Mrs. Strange is the best teacher I have ever had. She is always well prepared going into every lesson. The lessons are clear, concise, and constructive. She does her best to adjust her teaching style to you for the best progress possible. Mrs. Strange gets to know you and cares for every student equally. She does not view you as another student because every student is important to her. You can go to her for any problems you are having with technique, tone quality, sound projection, or any other problem you may have as a student and she will work through the problems with you until you feel comfortable enough to move on to other troubles you are having. Every lesson with Mrs. Strange has a reason, you will never waste time or money with her as a teacher because she can help you achieve new heights as a musician and then surpass them. She taught me everything I needed to know in order to make it into a university for music performance and she still helps me to this day when I am struggling. I recommend her as a teacher to anyone who wants to become a better musician."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

What is a Yamaha Cello? A Detailed Look for Cello Students

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …

What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …
