Ms Schwarz is a great teacher for my son. She uses Suzuki methods to teach, and is very clear about her expectations for my son in his lessons, and for practicing. He loves his cello lessons.
Jonathan
As a student older than Emma, I was a bit concerned about her ability to teach an adult and our ability to connect. That apprehension went away about half way through the first lesson. Age wasn't an issue at all -- either way. It was a pure student - teacher relationship and I am making great progress under Emma's guidance. I very much enjoy our lessons and I believe I am getting better every week.
Marie
My 10 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Emma for almost a year. Emma is very professional, on point, always prepared and never late. She strikes the right balance of encouragement and challenge. I have noticed my daughter's improvement is all areas of academics, discipline, social interactions, patience and self-esteem because of Emma's influence. Emma has a firm hand and demands that my daughter be prepared and ready and willing to learn. She has also established a great personal rapport with my daughter, who looks up to Emma as a role model. I could not recommend her enough for her professionalism, preparedness, and personal investment in my daughter's cello journey.

I just received my Bachelors in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and will be pursuing my Masters at the New England Conservatory in the fall. I've been playing cello for over 10 years and have been doing student teaching for about 5 years. I focus on building up great technique in my students, but more importantly, I want to help my students feel more connected to the music they play, and ultimately use their technique to express themselves. The best teachers, for me, don't just teach you how to play the notes, but also how to find your own meaning in the music that you play- no matter the difficulty level of the piece you're playing!

I use the Suzuki method for most beginner/intermediate students, but I'm also sensitive to what the student wants. I'm a firm believer that the student should always enjoy what they are practicing! I want to build up healthy, solid technique in my students, but I encourage my students to find pieces they themselves are interested ...

About Isaac

I have been playing the cello for over 10 years and just graduated from the Eastman School of Music with my Bachelors in Cello Performance. For what a first lesson review is worth Isaac was patient, well spoken, had very clear objectives which played into each other so I never felt like he was doing an info dump on me. I felt heard and supported. Cello is my 14th instrument and 5th one I've done private lessons on (though I have had more than 5 teachers) so my expectations are higher than I think most people's are and I still feel I made the right choice with him. I can't speak for the long term but I really don't foresee my opinion of him changing as we confront bigger challenges. He's earned my confidence and I can't wait for our second lesson.

I have been playing viola for 17 years and teaching violin, viola, and cello for 8 years. I graduated from the University of West Florida in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance - Viola. My viola instructor was Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy, current and former concert master of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and many others.
While earning my degree, I also learned how to play violin and cello and am able to teach them up to an intermediate level.
My teaching ideology is that ANYONE can learn an instrument at any age. I have taught students as young as 4 and as old as 65! Many adult students of mine have expressed difficulty and even shame in trying to find a teacher for them who would take them on, simply because they were starting as an adult.
We don't have to train for the symphony (unless you want to!); your goals are my goals and I will help you reach them!

"Jessica gives really good lessons! Over the past year, I've improved a LOT with intonation, shifting, and posture, which I most certainly wouldn't have done without her help. She's really patient and makes lessons enjoyable with her chill, fun personality, yet makes sure you don't slack off. Although I haven't had any other cello teachers to compare her to, she definitely has raised my standards for any I might have in the future."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
