I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.

Music has a profound affect on our quality of life and perception. No matter the skill level, the joy of listening and performing music is something nearly every person finds valuable to their life. I feel it is a privilege to have the opportunity to share my understanding of music with others.
I have been teaching publicly and privately for over 10 years. I teach music using songs the student(s) listen to. Fundamentals are introduced using the music that you love. I studied Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) as well as classical guitar (IUP) and jazz guitar (IUP, Duquesne Faculty).

Guitar:
Guitar is one of my favorite instrument to learn and I began playing at age seven. To become a well rounded musician and player I always start with basics. Hand and finger technique, notes, rhythms, chords, learning the fretboard, soloing and songs. If the student is only interested in learning songs I am happy to have them bring in anything they want to learn. For students who want more advanced technique I will teach them theory and how it relates.

She is knowledgeable, very nice, and cares about her students. It's clear that she loves music and loves teaching.
I like that she presents just the right challenge to keep me motivated, and at the same time is honestly encouraging. She is precise and points out areas that need improvement, and notices strengths and progress.
She also tries to see what your interests are and brings in music that might appeal to you.
I have learned so much, and look forward to the lessons."

He was SO patient. I liked how every so often he asked my son if he had any questions or wanted to go over anything again before they moved on. Ronny was very encouraging along the way, really building my son's confidence by pointing out whatever progress he noticed as they played.
One other thing I really liked was how he acknowledged my son's excitement, but gently gave him a reality check by telling him things like "focus on progression, not perfection," and "remember to stay humble."
All in all, Ronny is a Fantastic teacher. I would recommend him in a heartbeat!"

Having now spent a year and a half with Ahmad, my progress has been phenomenal.
As a former music major studying saxophone, I have had my share of music teachers. I can say that Ahmad has been the most influential and effective of all. His manageable lessons challenge you enough to make you better without overwhelming you with techniques and theory that you don't understand. Every lesson builds on priors so that you are not wasting time learning scattered and incomplete lessons that you may find in books or video lessons on youtube.
We began simply learning pentatonic scales to build basic right and left hand technique. After spending months learning this, we moved onto major scales, and understanding harmonizing and more music theory. Throughout this, we have also spent time on learning basic rhythms.
Finally, we have moved onto modes, arpeggios, and blues. Although there was a lot of work learning to play scales and arpeggios, it was absolutely necessary in order to understand how to solo over rock and blues music. While I have a long way to go with the instrument, it is so satisfying to have the tools to write music, play solos, and make them sound like you know what you are doing. I would have never been able to do this without Ahmad.
Ahmad is not a magician--you have to put in the work yourself. But he makes your practice efficient so that your time is spent learning valuable skills, instead of bad habits.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have started sooner!"

I tried to teach my daughter, Rose, how to play the guitar and I couldn't get her to follow through with her lessons. Al has made the guitar fun for her. She'll play AT LEAST an hour a day now, learning songs given to her and playing warm-ups like scales.
Al also teaches music theory so Rose understands music more. Any teacher that gets a student that excited is doing something right."
