I have been teaching violin for 18 years and have taught hundreds of satisfied students. When you sign up for violin lessons with me, you will begin by learning the basics of the instrument including proper holding and playing position, tone production, rhythm, first position notes, basic notation. Once you get the basics down, you will learn how to play your favorite melodies and songs. All of this can happen within the first 4-6 months of playing.

I haven't played the violin since I was in middle school, and I wanted to re-learn to play it. I am so glad I picked Dave, he is very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I jumped in with both feet and Dave made the instructions at our first lesson easy for me to understand. Excellent location and studio is awesome.
Rushia Hendricks
Excellent lesson. Does a wonderful job at taking older students and gently holding their feet to the fire to bring out the best- even under the most challenging of circumstances. Kudos to being such a uniquely great teacher!

I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

My first violin lesson ever went great. Michael is very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Michael is such a great instructor! I was worried about re-starting violin lessons as an adult but after speaking with him those worries went out the window. He is very kind, patient, and gives very helpful and constructive feedback during lessons. He seems to tailor lessons and music style to each student and gives lots of great exercises and homework/practice!

He's also very on top of scheduling and understanding when things come up (like an injured wrist). Very enthusiastic and passionate about music - I would highly recommend him as an instructor for any age!
Abel G.
Great instructor! Michael has a great attitude and is clearly very talented. He is willing to adjust the curriculum in order to accommodate my specific needs/ weaknesses. Balances core exercises, scales (including note reading homework), and music playing. We've already started playing songs together which really helps me hear the notes better!

"Julia is a fantastic teacher. As an adult picking up violin for the first time, I never expected to make much progress, let alone as fast as I have with Julia. She is kind and patient, while always instilling proper technique and fundamentals to very high standards. With her, I am learning not only to play notes, but to perform those notes beautifully and to truly understand the music. She is extremely dedicated to her students, no matter the age or level, and her dedication, in turn, helps me stay motivated and makes me want to try harder. Teachers like her are hard to find - I can't recommend her highly enough!"

"Mark Williams is a awsome violin teacher.

Mark Williams was my son, Nicholas' private violin teacher at his elementary school. My son enjoyed lessons and he learned a great deal of aquired skills he needed to play violin. Mr. Williams was able to share his enthusiasm of playing violin with my son. He made my son be more serious when he practiced violin. He allowed my son to have a private concert which encouraged him and gave him confidence. Mr. Williams was a very friendly and encouraging teacher who is able to make his students confident violin players."

"Alethia is a very talented teacher and violinist. She is extremely professional, attentive and accommodating to her students needs/goals. As an older student with no musical background, she has made the violin less intimidating and more accessible by breaking it down and making it less complex and easier to understand. While, I've only been with her a few years, I'm very proud of the progress I've made with her. If you are interested in taking up the violin, I highly recommend her."

"Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from."

Are You Making the Most of Your Violin Practice?

Gifted musicians don't appear from nowhere fully-formed and ready to take to the concert platform.  For every 45-minute concerto or 90-minute recital you hear, hours of hard work have gone into every note, every phrase, and even how the music is approached, learned, and memorized! It may seem strange to say that proper practice is the most nerve-wracking element of mastering your violin, but if you don't know how to structure the session, how can you ever be sure that you're working on the rig …
