My experience in teaching music performance is vast and solid. I've been working with a variety of collectives and genres for over 15 years and most of my students are very successful performers.
My name is Val Kuznetsov and I am an expert in teaching voice. I have been enjoying helping singers and musicians for over 15 years and so very proud to have clients who have already climbed to #1 on Billboard charts and are successfully developing their careers with major labels such as Columbia Records and Warner Brothers.
Besides teaching voice, I have an extensive expertise in instructing piano, music theory and ear training. I also teach sound production at Harold Washington College, and have experience in orchestration and arrangement using a variety of software like Pro Tools, Cubase, etc... We will develop a goal plan for you so that our time together is interesting, fun, and we make progress! *** Studio Equipment *** First - YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN INSTRUMENT FOR PRACTICE AT HOME BEFORE BEGINNING LESSONS!!! Consistency is very important for learning, and weekly lessons ARE NOT enough for growth. My home studio is in a private music room. Parents can relax in our family space with coffee or tea and enjoy their children's learning at their leisure. My studio includes a 88-key keyboard, technology setup with an iMac, microphone and stand, a mirror for posture and musical instruments. I carry books for the lessons themselves (not for practice at home), and we can download or print out music as desired. If you take lessons online, I can email you links and sheet music as needed. Feel free to bring any additional equipment music you would like to share. I have some great recommendations for music books designed for both children and adult learners.
I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then gradually a plethora of other instruments) over the ensuing years. I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people's homes (including mine) and then online (live via Zoom).
Besides teaching and performing, I also ran an all ages music venue and recording studio from 2006-2015.

*** Lesson Details *** All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams, understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we will apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this wa
y they’re learning songs they like, and more about the instrument and music at the same time. As time goes on we’ll get into playing lead, advanced theory, songwriting and more.
Above is the plan, but I am always open to suggestions from the students as well. As long as they are learning, I am happy. In all reality, we can spend years on just one of the many paths you can go down with music- so I am always continually re-checking on the student’s current and up-to-date goals.
*** Specialties *** Patience. I feel like it is necessary to be a good teacher. Other than that, I am very confident in my teaching skills. I love so many genres of music that its hard to say where my best talents lie. But no matter what the style, I will say one thing that I have always been strict about is proper technique and rhythm. I feel like timing is something that a lot of musicians take for granted and often have to learn the hard way later on. I try to incorporate it soon after a beginner's first lessons.

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar
Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.
Specialize in Jazz performance, improvisation and theory, although I do teach up to intermediate level on basic piano facility. With beginning students (especially with children) my primary goal is to help them have fun and fall in love with music in general not just the piano.

Jim has performed with seasoned greats such as: Ira Sullivan, Mark Whitfeild, Cladio Roditi, Donald Harrison, Antonio Hart, Jimmy Owens, Abe Laboriel, Rodger Humphries, Cecil Bridgewater, Yotam Silberstein, Ron Affif, Alexander King, and John Moulder. His debut album "Explosion" is out on Delmark Records features columbia recording artist Frank Catalano and jazz legend Richie Cole . Jim's second album, "Blue Skies," is also on Delmark records and features two legends of jazz Ira Sullivan and Roger Humphries. He has studied under two Art Blakey Jazz Messenger Alumni: Dr Nathan Davis--who's performed with everyone from Herbie Hancock to Benny Golson; and Dr. Leon Lee Dorsey who was an active member of Lional Hampton's big band for several years, recorded with the likes of Freddie Hubbard and is an active member of Hilton Cruiz's trio. Jim is the recipient of the Pitt-Mellon BNY jazz scholarship for outstanding performance and composition. As a composer Jim has had quite a volume of original material spanning a wide array of styles performed by musicians such as PSO members (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), and Pittsburgh-based Alia Musica. After about 3-6 months of lessons with me you will be able to play songs that you wanted to learn and you will also know all the essential fun basics of your instrument. Paul's great. He's been amazing about listen to me and what I want to learn. I'm actually more interested in music theory, and learning about bass than I am interest in becoming proficient at playing. It's obv that not only does Paul play both Bass and Guitar, but he understands theory and he can talk intelligently about different styles.
Overall a really nice upbeat guy too. I was hesitant b/c I didn't want a guitar teacher who also played bass. I wanted a bass teacher, Paul definitely is serious about Bass, and does NOT approach it the same way he does guitar

Paul is really patient, encouraging, and accommodating to my work schedule. At the same time, he is easy to talk to, and I have a lot of fun at all of my lessons! He’s clearly very knowledgeable about guitar and a wide variety of music styles. He listens to my goals and tries to relate his lessons to my interests to keep me engaged. Since I started a couple months ago, I’ve definitely noticed improvement, and he’s given a lot of structure and meaning to my practice sessions. Also, I had been developing some bad habits during my brief time trying to learn guitar myself, so I really appreciate that he points them out and helps set me on the right track. Overall, totally worth it and would recommend him to anybody!

I wasn’t always a performer. In fact, I’m what you’d call an introvert, but I always loved music. In high school, I was pressured into auditioning for the school musical and I actually got a lead role! From that moment on I was hooked and the trajectory of my life was altered forever!
I went to Berry College for my Bachelor of Music Education degree. My voice teacher taught me how to fill a theater with the sound of my voice WITHOUT A MICROPHONE! He nudged me onward to get my Master’s degree at the prestigious School of Music at Indiana University
, where I met my wife, Michelle Kei Ishuu, who is also a great performer and teacher. We often teach together, so you get twice the benefit in your lessons!
We have lived in San Diego and New York City. We’ve performed on stages across the country and throughout Europe and we’ve worked with some AMAZING artists over the years who have graciously shared their gifts with us. Now, we have the pleasure of sharing what we’ve learned with our students.

I absolutely adore working with Robert in preparation for my future in the voice and music industry. His technique and approach for both the voice and music theory is not only helpful but also fun. Under his instruction I'm both able to learn both technique on how to better my sound and the anatomy behind it. I enjoy going to voice twice a week and I always look forward to my lessons as they approach. I truly feel I am being prepared in the bests ways possible for my future as well as the most fun learning environment voice teachers have to offer.
