I have been teaching violin for 3 years. Due to COVID, I switched to Zoom lessons this year, and it has been surprisingly awesome! Anything I teach in person translates to Zoom, and this makes learning the violin more accessible than ever.

I teach using the Suzuki Method and See Saw exercise books. I love to teach students of any age - adults and kids. For younger students, I recommend a parent be present to help with lesson setup and note-taking. You're welcome to sit in on the whole lesson or just the first and last 5 minutes or so.

Also, I love introducing students to alternative styles of violin. Want to learn how to play in a rock band? I can help! Want to play by ear and jam? We can do that too!

No matter your end goal, we'll work on posture and playing technique to help you achieve a beautiful sound and comfortable playing. We'll also work on basic music theory and note-reading.

I have been teaching strings for 25 years both in a studio/private setting and also as a middle school orchestra teacher for the past 20 years in the public school setting. I love working with students to help them learn the joy of playing the violin or viola! I am eager to work with you and look forward to the opportunity to help you learn or advance your skills on the violin or viola while having fun!

I am also a certificated Montessori trained teacher, and have been worked with children from age 2.5-9years old for many years.

Hi! I'm Michael Shingo C. and I am a violinist, pianist, and composer.

In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them.

Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits. ~

Classical, traditional method and Suzuki method. Studied with Dr. John Kendall, founder of the Suzuki method for the United States. Have played with Southern Illinois University orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony exhibition concert. Have performed in Europe, North America and Asia.
