I came to Mike with 25 years of playing experience and was expecting to grind through theory like I've done with past instructors. We jammed for a couple of minutes at our first lesson and he took it in a totally different direction, which has been amazing!!! He is so incredibly tuned in to what each individual student needs that he knew what I needed way before I figured it out. I love his approach to playing, which for an advanced player, focuses on getting ideas from your head to your fingers and I love that he teaches the theory aspect of playing, not as the focus, but as an explanation of why certain ideas work and certain ones don't. He doesn't jam theory down your throat, so lessons and practice are truly enjoyable and don't feel like a chore.
In addition to be a truly gifted teacher, Mike is just an awesome dude -- it's obvious that he loves to teach and really invests himself in getting his students to where they want to go. I can't recommend him highly enough.
Mike is an outstanding teacher. As a total guitar novice, his patience and instructional ability really helped me take small steps into a much bigger world. Between the in studio lessons and the exercises he gave me to do at home, I really feel like I learned a great deal in a short time period. I hope to work with him again in the future and would strongly recommend him to anyone thinking of guitar lessons.
My son has been taking lessons with Michael for about a year, and we are both very satisfied customers. When my son first came to Mike, he was anxious about his upcoming audition for the top jazz band at his school. Mike helped him prepare and feel more confident, and he was able to earn his place in the band. Since then Mike has worked with him on technique and style and helped him progress incredibly. Mike is a great teacher, very professional, and a super person!

About Robert
It is my experience that no matter what kind of music you end up playing a solid classical piano background is invaluable. I was privately trained in classical piano from the ages 5 - 17 in Los Angeles, California. My teachers were Mary Brady, Mae Gilbert Reese and Jeane Weiss. I graduated from Ha

I only had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with Robert for two months since I got into Harvard and had to move to the East Coast, but I can confidently attest that he is a phenomenal teacher. To begin with, Robert brings to the table not only his classical training but also an open, creative, out-of-the-box approach. He is extremely knowledgeable and seasons lessons with fantastic facts about composers and pieces which makes everything a lot more interesting and memorable. lessons are versatile and designed to develop several key skills simultaneously. I never really played the piano before but after only two months with Robert I could read notes, develop my technique and actually play two beautiful pieces! If you are looking for a well-rounded, brilliant, cool teacher - search no more.

Hey everyone out there interested in Music Theory! I'm a jazz pianist and composer, who's crazy about theory and the understanding of music. In my classes we'll study harmony, intervals, chord inversions, chord extensions, reharmonization, and from time to time historical references and examples. I find the best way to grasp these concepts is by first analyzing and studying them, and second putting them into practice on chordal instruments (piano/guitar). Theory may seem intimidating for some and limited for others who already have a strong grasp on the basics, but I can guarantee that together we'll open new doors into understanding theory no matter your level.
