About Adia
Adia has been described as having “a voice full of personality and expression.” Her vocal stylings have been called soulful, soothing, and classy. Dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, her energetic and exciting performances are marked by a blend of jazz standards, original compositions, and an exploration of the elements of jazz found in contemporary music genres. For over ten years Adia performed with Generations, a jazz ensemble dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, consisting of some of the most seasoned jazz musicians in the triangle area, opening for Jimmy Heath and performing with Gary Bartz. Her debut CD First Take, features Generations. Adia is still often accompanied by her father, Generations bassist Freeman L., a bassist with over thirty years of jazz performing experience.

A skilled and passionate performer,
Adia works with various jazz instrumentalists. She currently performs with the her Quartet which routinely features jazz professionals, instructors, and students from North Carolina and the US east coast on drums, bass, piano, and horns.

A native of Durham, NC, Adia holds Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies from North Carolina Central University and a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from New York’s Queens College. She was chosen as an outstanding performer by Downbeat Magazine in 2006, and was selected to participate in the 2006 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead International Jazz Residency and Performance Project. She was selected as a 2008 NC Arts Council Emerging Artist. Her sophomore CD, Take 2: Rendezvous with Yesterdays was well received internationally and reached the top ten on the CMJ jazz station charts.

Adia most recently was the featured performer for the 2011 Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Ceremony and was chosen to be on the 2012-2014 Durham Arts Council CAPS rooster, bringing the arts to public and private schools. She also served as the music director for United Way’s “Shakespeare on Base” held at Fort Bragg Military Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back instructor with an incredible love for music. I will tailor each lesson to the needs of each individual student. I love teaching dedicated and diligent students. I am well versed in teaching various styles of music including but not limited to classical, jazz, and musical theater. I encourage my students to become musicians and not just vocalist. Each lesson will be comprised of a vocal warm-up, vocalizing exercises, ear-training, music theory, and singing. I will include a little history and diction when needed. When you study with me you will leave with the ability to sing any type of music of your choosing. I will infuse each student with my own passionate spirit for music. Lets sing!

I only didn't give a 5 because I really do reserve 5 stars for the beyond exceptional.. in all things.

But Adia has helped me already in ways that other teachers have not!! I highly recommend her and I'm increasing the time of my lessons with her as a consequence.

Erin is one of the kindest and most engaging musicians I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know. She has a natural way with children which puts them at ease. She's thoughtful and completely professional. Her years of experience playing and her demeanor make her the perfect French Horn teacher. My son had the passion to learn to play and she tapped into his enthusiasm and matched it with her energy and appreciation of a student who is eager to learn! My name is Ruthie and I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2007 with a Bachelors of Music Education degree with an emphasis in voice. Through my collegiate experiences, I had the privilege of participating in a Concert Choir, Barbershop/A Capella Ensembles, Vocal Jazz Ensembles and Performance in Solo Voice. The jazz program at UNC is one of the finest in the United States, and to be selected as a member of one of the vocal jazz ensembles was an honor in itself. From these experiences I have gained knowledge about the importance of vocal performance and music advocacy. I accepted a position as a general music teacher in Colorado in the fall of 2007 and then worked part time for a school in Laguna Niguel, CA until June of 2012. My passion for music started for me as a young child. I am huge lover of Barbershop/Sweet Adeline music and I recently competed in the International Young Women in Harmony Quartet Contest in Nashville, TN. My quartet, Vogue, won the competition. We competed in two International Competitions in Denver and Hawaii and placed 10th and 15th in the world. My lessons will be educational and fun. I want to find your passions and interests and from there I will create lesson plans to enhance your learning experience in your specified concentration. Voice lessons will start with vocal warm ups and exercises and then we will proceed to work on vocal techniques and preferred repertoire. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

Graduating from Elmhurst College (1997) with a Bachelor's in Music, Natalie received high accolades earning a membership in the Lambda Sigma Psi Music Honor Society.

During her college years, Natalie created and owned a local music publication called, "The Local Buzz". At this moment she had discovered her

I started out as an opera singer and eventually went on to play the harp, guitar, ukulele, and have experimented with many other instruments by ear. Having over 20 years experience as a musician, I have had a natural inclination to play music by hearing it and repeating what I've heard--adding my own flavor into the mix as I've progressed. However, it wasn't until I spent time sight reading and dedicated many years of practice to implementing music theory into my training that I began to blossom. Hello everyone! My name is Amanda O., and I am a Harpist, Voice teacher, Therapeutic Musician, Life Coach, Alternative Medicine Practitioner, and Vocalist who has over 21 years of experience as a classical vocalist and performer. By 8 years old, I began training as an opera singer and have merged my love of classical vocals with the therapeutic harp. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Diego State University, with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and am currently in my graduate program at Chaminade University of Honolulu studying to obtain my Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology. I graduated from the International Harp Therapy Program as a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and have completed an internship at Apreva Hospice. I have experience playing therapeutic harp music at over 30 different facilities around San Diego, such
as Narzerath House, Bay View, Bella Vista, Monte Vista Village, and La Mesa Health Care Center, as well as making In-Home visits. These include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities around SD! I also have experience playing for the actively dying for hospice and consider it an honor to be of musical assistance for people in transition.

Hi! I'm a recent graduate of Temple University's Boyer College of Music, where I earned a degree in Music Theory. Violin and tuba are my primary instruments. I originally began my studies at Boyer in the Music Education department, and through my time there I have a lot of experience teaching music, especially to kids. I have taught high school marching bands for the past three years and am currently Hornline Director of Ridley High School's marching band. I have also been studying German since a very young age and studied abroad in Germany in college. I earned a minor in German and am a member of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha.

Outstanding instructor, professionally gifted, helpful, patient and personable. I was fortunate to have found Elisabeth to teach my 9 year old son how to play the violin. Her teaching style was a perfect match for him and she was able to keep him motivated to play and improve and also achieve his goal of making the junior orchestra for his school.

I am a professional bassist and teacher living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In 2017 I earned a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Instrumental Music Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Learning the cello for a beginner is not an easy task, but Teacher/instructor Trevor makes it happen with his patience, his practical approach and his professionalism with a very healthy attitude it all works. His understanding to what me as the student want is amazing. He doesn't waste time and he keeps me going ahead, and the success is actually reflecting. He has the technique for every step of the way. I am amazed how much I already accomplished in such short time, Thanks to Trevor for teaching effectively. I look forward for every lesson.

Allow me to start by saying that I am a violist, not a bassist. I had never so much as held a bass before in my life. However, after a few months of Trevor's patient guidance, I found myself reasonably confident not only in my ability to hold a bass but also somewhat in my ability to play it whilst doing so.

Aside from his patience, I appreciated his flexibility and approachability. Of course, I did my best to practice and attend all of our lessons, but if, for some reason, I was unable to do so, he would always work something out in a fair and rational manner. Not only did I feel comfortable asking questions, but I felt encouraged to do so. His hands-on approach of not just showing or telling but both was refreshing, as was his focus on the goals of student (me, in this particular situation). If there was a particular topic I wanted to discuss - vibrato, for instance - he would incorporate it into lesson plans piece by piece as I advanced to the necessary skill level, without losing a sense of the comprehensive "big picture." At the same time, I never felt rushed or lost during lessons or while practicing; his pacing was excellent, and there is no question that he absolutely knows the instrument well.

In summation, I learned a lot in a short period with Trevor, and strongly recommend this instructor.
