Improve your musical knowledge whether you are completely new to reading music, or experienced and looking to hone your skills.

About Erin
I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience.

I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults.

My voice students range in ability from absolute beginner to intermediate with significant previous musical and vocal training. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My voice students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and to access greater vocal range.

I teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as they are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I teach some beginning adults as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice students will learn to improve their technique thr
ough proper breathing, correct vowels, space, and resonance. I teach repertoire based on the students' interest, but I am well versed in classical and operatic repertoire in English, French, German, and Italian, as well as some musical theatre and jazz. I also teach pop songs for those who are interested. I can help you improve your technique for whatever style of music you want to sing.

Piano students will learn to read music, play with correct form, learn scales, and improve their musicianship skills. I teach out of lesson books (mostly Faber) to improve technique, but I want students to learn supplemental pieces that are fun for them as well.

I hope to share with you the same joy I get from making music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio at home has a piano, my music library, a large mirror for aiding the student in observing their vocal habits.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, students will need to have a keyboard or a piano in a space free of distractions. Students should have a neat, three ring binder to hold any loose sheet music. Piano students need a regular notebook to write lesson assignments.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical art songs and musical theatre.

Great first lesson! I feel like I learned a lot about technique and pronunciation. I get really nervous to sing in front of people but Erin made me feel comfortable. I definitely recommend her if you want to not only sing better but also learn the lingo, techniques, and theory. Looking forward to our next lesson :)

Learning to play guitar can be a daunting task. Don breaks it down into easy to understand lessons. After each lesson he sends me home with practice homework so I constantly feel like I'm making progress.

The most important thing for me when i wanted to take lesson was that the teacher new his stuff, Don definitely does. I'm not just learning to play guitar, i'm also learning more about music.

When looking for a guitar teacher for my daughter, I was so pleased to find Don. He knew exactly where to begin with her and started her playing music right away. His creative techniques keep her engaged and excitedly looking for what's coming next. He is professional, yet warm at the same time, putting both her and I at ease. It is amazing to see the transformation in my daughter's guitar abilities as well as the transformation in her confidence. Don's expertise and patience is perfectly blended.
Thanks Don!

Allison's dedication to teaching is obvious from the moment you start with her. As someone with a lot of trouble sticking with the more tedious parts of practice, her consistency and energy did volumes for my attitude and ability to stay on track. That she's still a student herself seems to inform her teaching all the time - Allison understands that some things just click more than others, and she doesn't get frustrated when you need extra help or encouragement. I would recommend her to anyone!

I first met Alex in June 2016 as my summer flute instructor at Columbus School of Music and Dance. I wish I could take more classes with him, because he is one of the best teachers I've ever met. In the short time he taught me, he showed me the principal techniques for getting the greatest sound out of the flute and (most importantly) encouraged excellence. He saw potential in me and believed I could do great things with my instrument. He makes you feel at-ease and really sets the tone for an open, deep-thinking environment (which is perfect for analyzing music). I personally believe that Alex White is the epitome of what a wonderful teacher should be and any student would be lucky to have him.

I have worked professionally with Alex since 2006. In addition to being a very kind person, he is a superior flutist able to play anything he is given well. He lives to play and practice. He is also an excellent conductor, an entertaining vocalist, and drum major for the band. He is a deep thinker and will really help you find the techniques and skills that are inside of you. You won't be disappointed.

Alex White's ability to conduct a full band rehearsal matches that of most senior band directors. He can pull music out of us we didn't realize we had. He has a natural gift but doesn't take it for granted. He works hard to improve his skill every day.

His voice, like his flute, is a beautiful thing to hear too. Just sayin!

I was very shy growing up, but she helped my confidence grow and encouraged me every lesson we had. She even offered me performing opportunities to gain more experience and feel more comfortable on stage. She is beyond talented and is a great role model to all young musicians. Music Theory is just like grammar - the grammar of music. Don't let that scare you! Studying at the Mannes School of Music (a conservatory notorious for its very intense Music Theory classes) I have learned great strategies for tackling its difficulty. I will break down complex chordal harmony or counterpoint and give simple steps in order for you to completely understand the material. Or maybe you have no background in Music Theory - that is great too! I can start simply with learning how to reading music. A good foundation is very necessary! :)

I am able to teach Music Theory at 4 locations:
- West 13th Street (Mannes School of Music)
- Your Home
- Online
- Linford Road (My Home) **Winter & Summer ONLY

About Rebecca
Hello! Thank you for coming to view my profile! I am a junior at the Mannes School of Music studying Flute Performance with Judith Mendenhall. I graduated from Great Neck South High School and Manhattan School of Music Precollege. I have had a wide age range of flute students whom I taught how to read music as well as the flute itself. These students then went on to participate in NYSSMA. I have always had a passion for learning and teaching and hope to instill my passion upon you! Don't hesitate to send me any questions you may have!

**The availability drop down is a bit confusing. During the winter and summer, I will be able to teach in/around Great Neck AND in NYC, whereas during the Fall and the Spring I will be living in NYC and ONLY able to teach there. If you have any questions, please send me a message and we can work out our a
vailability through the message system. In the photos section of the profile, I have posted my free hours from August 28th - December 20th. Hopefully this also helps!

Thank you again for taking interest in my profile!

Kate's wonderful talent for music is impressive and so is her teaching method.
I started off knowing basically nothing and had no sense of rhythm. Although I knew it was going to be challenging, I was determined to have fun while learning, no matter what - and picking Kate as my teacher was a very fortunate decision.
I am so glad that throughout the course of two months, I was able to learn how to play some of my favorite songs on the uke and also was gifted with precious tips and tricks to improve my practice in the long term!
Kate is patient, sweet and will amaze you with her skills - and you'll also be amazed by how much you can learn in one hour with her. I'd rate the classes with 10 stars if that was even possible :)

Thanks so much Kate!

I love getting into music theory; in fact, I was very close to choosing this field as a major part of my graduate studies. If you need some help with theory homework, or want to brush up on your music literacy, or if you would like to begin learning the fundamentals of music analysis for score study and listening, let's do it!

About Michael
Michael is an active guitarist and music educator based in Los Angeles, and is available for in-home, in-studio, and online lessons. He holds music degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (BM) and the University of Southern California (MM), where he is currently engaged in doctoral studies in classical guitar performance. In addition to his performance endeavors, Michael is pursuing an academic field of study in Music Teaching and Learning. As a Teaching Assistant at USC's Thornton School of Music, he has led beginning group guitar classes, taught applied lessons for non-majors and undergraduate music minors, and coached chamber music and sight-reading classes for performance majors. Michael has extensive experience working with young people and adult learners, from new players to those with a background in guitar who want to stren
gthen their technique or finally begin that piece they have always wanted to learn.

Michael is, hands down, one of the best teachers that I've ever had in my life (not just in guitar...and I've had a lot of teachers in undergrad and multiple grad schools lol.)

I came into my first lesson pretty convinced that guitar would be next to impossible to learn, but Michael was so off-the-charts positive and brimming with enthusiasm each lesson that I soon became super excited about learning. Michael is so wickedly smart and his knowledge base is so deep, that he's basically giving PhD level instructions tailored to rank beginners as myself.

It's also really cool that he's able to spot all my subconscious nuances and areas for improvement and then create mini-exercises to help me become aware of them and correct them. I've been able to progress from learning simple pieces to now memorizing page-long pieces.

Long music piece short: Best guitar teacher in LA!

He knows how to help students pinpoint our weak spots and improve them both musically and technically. While I had played classical guitar when I was younger, I hadn't played for over 6 years when I took Michael's class -- however, in one semester, I went from not knowing where each note placed on the fret to comfortably being able to play the carcassi etudes, ending with etude No. 7. Michael was patient and yet pushed me to practice more and strive harder every week -- and it paid off in the most rewarding way. I cannot recommend him enough.
