Excellent tool for aspiring musicians and members of high school and college level music programs. Former students have gained entrance to summer jazz programs and music programs at the high school and college level.

About Jim
I have been teaching for the past 15 years as a private instructor. My students range in age from 5 years old to 64. I teach beginner and intermediate piano and beginner, intermediate, and advanced electric bass.
I've been playing professionally for the past 30 years as an electric bassist, pianist, and vocalist. Learn to play like your favorite artists while having fun and growing as a musician. For bass students, you can learn all styles that are desirable, such as funk techniques like slapping, R&B grooving, rock & roll driving, and jazz swinging. For piano students, you can expect to learn enough music theory to reach greater heights and move forward while developing a love for the piano and the world of music. I offer a teaching environment that is highly interactive and encourages students to play, and understand the dynamics of p
laying with other musicians. You will learn to read music but I promise you will not be bored.

“I assist my students with playing like their musical idols by using proper teaching methods to help them become well versed in the musical styling of their choice.” -Travis Blum

"I love meeting the needs of my students to enhance their musical growth." -Travis Blum

Piano students will focus on the most important skills and concepts they need to be able to play proficiently and musically. This will be through the use of proper technique and providing a clear explanation of music theory, scales, progressions, harmonizing, improvising, ear training, sight reading and understanding lead sheets. All will be in the best interest of the student in order to focus them toward playing the songs and styles they wish to play. Everything will be demonstrated and explained thoroughly with clarity and patience. Exercises to help the students build confidence to play parts that they can call their own will be encouraged.

Drum lessons will improve the students technique and creativity while introducing the many diverse styles. Students will implement the use of the rudiments and see how they might be applied to beats or fills on the drum set. Linear patterns and four way coordination patterns will be applied for developing good coordination skills and ambidextrous discipline in advanced players. Beginners will learn to grasp a feel of straight quarter, eighth and sixteenth note beats. Shuffle and swing rhythms will be covered so the student can get a feel of grooves that are based on these concepts. Students may also learn about music and rhythms from all over the world, as they apply to all of the styles of modern music as we know it. After the basis of various rhythmic concepts are applied, then the student can reach into the field of playing over the bar line, playing in odd meters, and soloing.

About Serena
Hello! My name is Serena!

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

This year has been w
onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! I am proud to have won the Seattle Opera Guild/Opera Plus Young Artist Scholarship Award for the 2015/2016 season, the Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, First Place in the National Classical Singers Competition, the C.M. Gerber Scholarship, Music Dean's Scholarship, Music Faculty Award, First Place at Washington State Solo and Ensemble Competitions, First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Competitions, and many more!

Teaching brings me such joy! To share the love of music and to educate the musicians of tomorrow is both gratifying and inspiring. I have been teaching since 2005 and provide a fun and focused learning experience where there are no "wrong" questions, and everybody's unique voice is celebrated! Many of my students have gone on to study music in college, and have landed lead roles in musical theatre, choir solos, All State and All Northwest choirs, and won awards in Classical competitions.

In my spare time, I like to hike, eat good food, and spend time with family and friends!

*** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.
**Skype lessons are reserved for long distance students only**

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

Learn the basics of how music is put together! It will improve your performance. If you are struggling in a theory class in school or college I can help.

I taught music theory in the Booker High School Visual and Performing Arts program and at the State College of Florida.

I'll start where you are at and take you where you need to be step by step.

About Laura
Of course you want an experienced, passionate, patient and compassionate teacher! Teaching is not my job; it is my calling and I am very good at it.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (1987, Ball State University) and a Master of Music degree in Voice (1994, University of South Florida). I've taught in public schools in Sarasota. Currently I am adjunct staff for State College of Florida (formerly Manatee Community College) teaching private voice and piano lessons and music appreciation classes.

My music studio has been serving music students in the Sarasota area since 1991.

All are welcome! Lessons are for students of all abilities. Some students come with just the desire to sing or play better for their own pleasure, others come with prior training, some are preparing for an audition and some even wish to ma
ke a career in music. Some people have come seeking help with their speaking voice for public speaking. My goal is to help my students meet and exceed their goals and have more life through the joy of music, to help them gain greater appreciation of music and increase their confidence both in music and in life!

*** Lesson Details ***
When a student and I first meet I ask the student what her/his hopes, goals, tastes and prior experience are. Then we talk about plans for achieving those hopes and goals.

Most of my students are studying music just because they love music and want to improve for their own benefit. Because of that, while I want students to progress, I am very patient. I understand that some weeks it's harder to find time for practice. I provide instruction and tools for growth, and show how to practice, then the students go home, use them and discover what works best for them.

Vocal lessons are tailored to each individual. Exercises include posture, breathing, diction, projection of the voice, unification of the voice, improvement of tone, range and flexibility. Healthy, beautiful singing is the goal. The confidence that goes along with that is amazing!

CDs with exercises and accompaniments are provided. And students can make CDs of their own performances!

Piano instruction is also tailored to the needs of each individual student. With young beginners I often use the "Faber" method. It has books for music theory, technique, lessons and performance. And students enjoy playing along with the Cd that goes with their pieces.

For older beginners, including adults, I often use the "Bastien, Older Beginner" or "Alfred, Adult Beginner". Both quickly teach melody and chord reading so that students can play more interesting pieces within a month. The lesson materials are supplemented by simple classical pieces or other music the student is interested in.

When a student comes in with prior training I continue with what she/he has been working on and adjust it as necessary. Literature for more advanced students is chosen with their abilities, technical and expressive needs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio area is closed off from the rest of the house. There is a small seating area for parents which is separated by a screen from the lesson area. I have a Yamaha CVP-103 digital keyboard with weighted and touch sensitive keys, plus lots of different instrument sounds and beats to make playing and singing more fun. I can also adjust the pitch of songs so that they fit the student's voice. The keyboard is plugged into a Super Scope Cd recorder; a microphone is plugged in as well. This allows me to make recordings of accompaniments and practice exercises, as well as recording students' performances. (See below for photos.)

*** Specialties ***
I have been teaching professionally since 1987; I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music. I discover the goals a student has and give them the tools to reach those goals. My teaching style is structured yet highly personalized for the individual. I teach music ranging from Classical to Popular always using the best techniques.

Mr. Gallo is phenominal! My son has learned so much in such a short time. He is patient, understanding, and very professional. He has a knack for adapting the lessons to suit the student’s needs, not the other way around, which is beyond helpful since my son battles with ADHD. His years and years of experience, along with the long list of sincere reviews posted by others, speak for itself. My hope is that my son will be first chair every year while in school, and I believe whole- heartedly that Mr. Gallo will get him there. Simply put, great teacher, and great methods. You absolutely, 100%, get what you pay for. The world needs more teachers like this. Happy student, and happy mom!! :)

Mr. Gallo has the perfect balance of guided instruction, positive feedback, making the lesson fun, and ability to push a student further in his playing. I was a little hesitant to try online lessons, but it is honestly the best solution when you have an instructor who cares so deeply for his students and their improvement. I would absolutely recommend Mr. Gallo!

I am a classically trained musician with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. With a total of 19 years of experience - 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra - I am capable of teaching multiple styles of music to all ages and proficiency levels. Also a multi-instrumentalist, I have the ability to teach other stringed instruments such as the viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele.

About Toni
I am a professional Double Bass player with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, I am able to teach all stringed instruments, such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. With experience coaching and mentoring students who have a passion for songwriting, it has helped them become effective, dynamic, and knowledgeable songwriters.

I teach strings to students of all different ages and proficiency levels. I am a classically trained musician with 19 years experience, with 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. My competency and versatility as a musician has given me the opportunity to work with children in the public school systems, after school programs, recreational centers, local events, and statewide competitions a
nd conventions.

Every instrument has a unique timbre, so I teach students what their chosen instrument's role is and what it's specific sound is used for. I believe that "practice makes progress," so I encourage each student to practice consistently and efficiently. By applying foundational techniques during practice and performance, it will aid in their continual growth and progress as a musician.

Depending on the goals and preference of the student - no matter the instrument - I highly encourage each of my students to learn to read music/chord sheets, understand and maneuver their instruments fluidly, and challenge themselves to pursue music in any and every way they can.

I firmly believe that learning technique and theoretical knowledge is essential to learning any instrument and any style. Focused practice sessions and learning how to listen actively instead of passively will shape a well-rounded musician, and as the teacher, achieving this with every student is my goal and my passion.

I very much look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
