I had my first violin lesson on Sunday with Tarcisio. He is an excellent violin teacher and I highly recommend him. He has a very mild manner and style of teaching which put me at ease and provided a level of comfort in feeling somewhat relaxed and free to play and learn from mistakes, unlike my other teachers who were much more critical. Tarcisio was totally focused on my playing. Within the first 10 minutes of my lesson, I played the first movement of Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor. Although he said I played very well, I think he was being nice for the first lesson. He then highlighted a few specific technical challenges and how I could overcome them. I especially enjoyed the way he explained, demonstrated and then allowed me to practice techniques to improve my playing. He taught me 3 new things that I never known before, making the lesson very valuable. I also REALLY like Tarcisio's method of teaching. Unlike a lot of academic conservatory teachers, he focuses on the music you are motivated to play and then provides instruction on the style and technical methods of playing a specific musical piece. He provided me with a detailed written homework assignment that was very prescriptive to what I need in order to improve my playing the Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor. His emphasis is not on endless hours of practicing scales, exercises and etudes from the books, he provides tailored assignments to improve style and technique to master playing a real piece of music of MY choice! I've never had this before in a teacher and really appreciate it. I was impressed with Tarcisio after my first lesson and certainly will continue working with him weekly. We have scheduled a specific hour every week for my lessons future lessons. This keeps me motivated to practice regularly with mindful focus and attention to progress quickly. Although everyone is different in who and what they prefer in a teacher, I specifically prefer Tarcisio's coaching style of teaching rather than the more authoritative style of most teachers I've had in the past. Based upon his professional level and skill in playing, I believe the lessons are well worth $65 for 60 minutes as well.

Whether you're 3 or 103, if you're playing violin (or starting to play!) I hope you're EXCITED about it!! Over the years, my students have said that their lessons are/have been their favorite times of each week. I believe learning to play viola should be full of joy, learning, thinking, and feeling. Bring that joy alive for yourself by partnering with me as your musical guide. I bring over 30 years of experience and pure joy to my work, and I'd love to share that with you!

Though our experience with Jiawei was brief (just three lessons as a summer fill-in for our regular teacher), our daughter very much enjoyed working with her. Jiawei is certainly someone we would pursue as a regular teacher if we had that need.

"Lauren is an excellent teacher for adult students!

At the age of 54 I decided to purchase a violin and learn to play. I found Lauren Cauley through Takelessons.com and could not be more pleased with her!! She has taught me so much in my first four weeks. She's patient with me and encourages me when I get discouraged with my play. She is quick to answer the numerous questions I have. She is an extremely talented musician with a talent for teaching. She pushes me in my weekly assignments and ensures I've mastered one level before we move to the next. Thanks Lauren!!"

"Hallie is an extremely good teacher and is very, very kind. Although she misses nothing in terms of mistakes and weak areas, she always focuses on the positive and uses positive reinforcement to get the most out of the student. She makes very efficient use of lesson time and knows how to isolate any issues that come up. My child is a teenager and she connects very well with him. He has some ongoing issues with his form and she is so good about gently reminding him in such a way that he wants to improve and doesn't feel criticized. I'd highly recommend her. She's a very nice person and great teacher. So glad I found her."

Why It's Never Too Late For Violin Lessons

Think you're too old to learn how to play the violin? Nonsense! Take a look as Los Angeles teacher Travis H. dispels the myth and explains why taking music lessons as a later age can actually be beneficial... The age at which a violinist begins playing is an interesting thing. Most of my violinist friends started when they were in elementary school, and just about everyone says that starting at an early age is the right thing to do. The music bug didn’t bite me until I was 16, and …
